Sounds like a California State government employee … only if he were, he’d have already “retired” at age 50 collecting a pension worth 90% of his last (spiked) highest pay. Next door to me, is a little suburban town pop. 35,000 where the last Fire Chief retired the day after he was voted a $ 500K yearly salary (no, that is no typo or hyperbole) … he is now collecting $ 440,000 annually … for doing … uh … nothing. And, no, the pension was not properly “funded” … so now the Fire District has about 5 fewer Firefighters and EMT’s. Yes, the Dept. WILL NOW let your house burn, and make grandma WAIT 30min. for revival. Hope the old bird holds out that long. Oh, and YES … the property tax assessments have increased to ensure this gold-plated public retiree receive his “fair share” of MY income that I am still earning the old fashioned way.

A buddy of mine had a daughter working for the feds in Ottawa. He insisted she was a hard worker but her live in boyfriend, also working for the feds was not. He rode his bike to and from work on the tax payers dime. 1 hour there and back. He topped that off with use of the employee gym for a 45 minute workout, on government time. 1 1/2 hour lunches, you got it on our dime! My buddy finally confronted this hard working government employee and the fellow smiled and said he took great pleasure in ‘screwing the man’. If he could get away with more he would.
My sister in law is also a fed department head who was livid with Harper for budget cutbacks, chronic underfunding. No one knows better what is needed other than a government worker who actually does the work. While there might be some truth to that it is a serious condemnation of fed management and the politicos who manage these people. Bad management always yields waste and excessive costs.
The Spanish worker not showing up for work and still being paid is not that unusual. How many workers are there in body only? Huge numbers.

You’re right. He deserves a merit award for doing less damage than the average civil (ha) servant (ha ha).
I’m sure this will give ideas to many of Rachel Notley’s staff. Many of them are already earning 6-figure salaries doing god knows what. Now they can get paid and not do anything for it. We, the great unwashed, will, naturally, pay for it.

When you have a public service union working under elected ministers nothing can be efficient as it becomes a self-serving perpetual cycle. How the general population hasn’t figured out there is nothing that a gov’t work force can’t fuck up worse than private enterprise is beyond me.
Who are those people giving awards to people who have not been at work for 6 years… and who are those people giving Nobel prizes to an empty suit with no accomplishment at all?

I agree. Including social services such as caring for the handicapped and seniors. It’s one thing for the guys ‘n’ gals whoare wiping bottoms to have a guaranteed decent wage & benefits. Quite another for the myriad paper-pushers/’2nd-income-earners’/social workers/women-not-on-maternity-or-stress-leave (sorry if that’s sexist; it’s just true) to be part of a union. It’s the root of the most of the evil that govts. commit.
The problem is that most cuts end up affect the people that actually do stuff. The ones you want to cut are very good at smelling out and reacting to a threat to themselves, so the cuts bypass them and they cut the people with their nose to the grindstone who never saw it coming.
