I report, you decide: I went to see Marco Rubio’s town hall this afternoon in Salem, New Hampshire. It was only a few miles from my hotel-I really had no excuse. I wanted to find out: Was Rubio really as slick and insubstantial in this setting as John Edwards? Answer: No. He’s slicker.
Kau’s I think, describes Rubio well, as does rubios own record. Phyllis schlafly has excoriated him as a traitor. So it was really odd when Limbaugh came out and said rubios conservative bona fixes were intact. That is a heavyweight endorsement, and yet so is schlaflys non endorsement.
Rush and schlafly should not have opposing opinions on Rubio. Something amiss here.
Seems the writer doesn’t like Rubio. Of course, I can’t oppose anything he said.

I guess if y’all are interested in the U.S.A Presidential Election you may wish to read this comment article. Possibly you the reader will arrive at the same opinion as I have, before reading the article.
Unless he wants to be. Or he thinks they are in his pocket. If someone likes Trump for shaking things up (I do) but fears he won’t be a good President (I do) or that his actual campaign in an election won’t stand up to the Democrat machine and the media (that’s me, too) they would be looking at the next tier and if they like Cruz (I do) but fear the media will be able to use born in Canada against him like they buried Obama’s questionable provenance (I do) then they would look at what the polls tell them is the next best option, Rubio, and might decide the best option is to get in on the ground floor build some foundation for him while the opposition is still concentrating on the obvious front and second runners.
More often than not, democracy comes down to the least bad option.
I like Rubio a lot, Cruz a lot, and for the most part, Trump and Carson… they’re all amongst the most conservative people running in a few election cycles, perhaps going back to Reagan.
Have a look at their conservative bonafides, their actual voting record over the past, there’s always going to be a few things that stand out that “we’d (the right) never support” like Rubio’s efforts with the “gang of eight”, Cruz’s wife’s employment, Trump being a business man and donating / entertaining with the likes of Hillary.
If you want a perfect candidate, who would you vote for? I doubt there’s any perfect candidate, we simply go with who is able to humiliate Hillary / Sanders in the only vote that counts. Not only win, I said HUMILIATE.
I hope one of these 3 or 4 (Carson being on the decline) win the nomination, and go for the throat of Hillary / Sanders with a landslide to rival Reagan’s, and am currently enjoying the sparring between them. That they realise that one of them will be the next President, and are able to stop short of delivering a fatal blow is important, never giving your enemy a nugget they’ll use against you.
Look at the lifetime numbers here…
Cruz is near the top here, 100, Rubio very near the top, 98 (the same as Rand Paul) the darlings of the campaign to undo Hillary via the Benghazi hearings, Rep. Issa is at 89 and Rep. Trey Gowdy who has recently endorsed Rubio is at 97 and I doubt Rubio “tricked” Gowdy into this support…

If Rubio is a RINO, that only leaves about 20 that are usually more conservative, out of about 1000 that are on the national stage, and many of them with regional only bases that couldn’t hope to launch a nationwide campaign, wooden speakers afraid of anything outside their scope of influence.

I think Rubio would lose to Hillary or Sanders. He seems too RNC, mercurial, automatonic and slick to me. What I can’t understand is what Cruz was thinking when he allowed his people to go after Carson’s supporters with misinformation. It is obvious that Carson will eventually drop out and he has sufficient evangelical support to be someone, perhaps the only candidate, whose endorsement could be pivotal to Cruz. He may have just poisoned that well. I prefer Cruz over Trump but even I couldn’t stomach his Iowa victory speech. With Paul out, the quality of choices and debate has slumped considerably. Anyone is better than Hillary or Sanders but that doesn’t inspire those who might stay home on election night.
I think Rubio would be a puppet on the right as opposed on the left. The same super rich are running the show from both ends. The super rich globalists don’t care what side the aisle their puppet comes from as long as they buy him.
If you look at his CV is not much thicker than Obama’s. the US need to try something different. Career politicians have destroyed their economy and their culture.
Trump/Cruz ticket would put the fear of the lord into the forces that have been pillaging the US taxpayers for the last 50 years.
I like Rubio. From a Canadian point of view, he comes across as a more personable version of Stephen Harper. As a Canadian conservative, I’m more liberal than an American conservative, however. Anyway, I think Rubio would be a good choice. Electable and not a socialist. Cruz’s speech after Iowa kind of creeped me out. I didn’t buy a word of it. Politics, being the art of the possible, I don’t think America is going to buy any of the hard right candidates and Marco Rubio may be the only kind of conservative they will buy.

Months ago a pundit picked Rubio as the most likely candidate because his “dislikeables” are low which means few people actually dislike him and would be able to vote for him if their preferred candidate didn’t get nominated. It also makes him more attractive to the independents, whose vote is vital for the win.
Trump has been riding high in the polls but he has very high “dislikeables” which would make it unlikely he could win the election if he were the Rep. nominee.
ANY Republican candidate would be vastly better than any Democrat candidate as prez, but he/she has to be able to win. That must be the prime consideration.
When I read a piece like this, which is so well-written and is full of irrefutable evidence, I sit up and take notice. Regardless of his apparent support for Babs. I actually WANT to like Rubio. His very Latinoness suggests a further expansion of the Republican tent, beyond the angry old white men and women currently camping with the Republicans. On paper, it appears as though Rubio would be the striker who could deliver the cup. UNTIL. Until you peel-away the brightly colored packaging designed for appeal to the average low-information voter. Then you discover that the Rubio toy within is designed to fall apart soon after play starts. Fall apart and succumb to excessive pressure from the Corporations that PAID for the packaging.
And, no, I do not understand Limbaugh’s stout defense of Rubio. Perhaps living in South Florida, Rush needs some replacement gardeners, cooks, butlers, and chauffeurs to staff his estate(s) ? While some Republicans hang on every word that dribbles out of the oxy-dulled mouth of Rush, I don’t share their IDOL worship. Rush, of all people, is an ego-maniacal, self-serving, self-aggrandizing, greatest radio host in the history of hominids. How does this relate to the present leading candidates? They’re all on one side, or the other…the only real difference between them is how loyal are they to the written Constitution? Who will best protect domestic freedoms? As always, it comes down to whatever the definition of ‘least harmful’ might be…the furthest right. Their personal history tells the tale, as always…tell them by their fruit, not by what they say.
Marc, it appears to me that the those who don’t like Rubio are not complaining of his “conservativism”, or lack thereof. It is his slick, but overt, political posturing and cynical changes of side, that worry anti-Rubioites.
He is, like Obama, a junior senator of absolutely no accomplishments to his name.

He has always stayed neutral in these primary battles even though he is under great pressure from listeners and candidates to come out for a candidate. He is not for illegal immigration because Reagan fell for a compromise with the Democrats over amnesty in which the Democrats did not keep their side of the bargain to secure the borders.

Simply because Limbaugh has been invoked as Rubio’s best endorsement. That Limbaugh has determined Rubio is a “true conservative”. Rubio MAY well indeed be the Republicans BEST chance (solely because of his skin-tone) … but what good is winning … when it means a continuation of the SOS ? Can’t happen now. Unless Cruz gets a court to rule pre-emptively that he is a “natural born citizen” Trump cannot credibly have him as VP. After Cruz’s campaign manager lying about Carson in Iowa it seems even less likely.
