Because I’d go on a long, long vacation.
“From our perspective, this was more a case of political grandstanding and a not so subtle move to wrestle control of natural resources away from the province,” AltaCorp Capital analyst Dirk Lever said in a strongly worded note to clients on Thursday. “Where is the next Peter Lougheed?”

But no such delays or studies on restoring “the public trust in the way Canada reviews and assesses major (rail delivering oil) projects.”
Gotcha.
McKenna hasn’t a clue.
If the greenies want to reduce greenhouse gasses, tax consumption, not production. People are only fooling themselves if they think Nigerian or Venezuelan heavy oil is more environmentally friendly. While people in Alberta can attest to the extent of stupidity in environmental regulations, are we sure that Nigeria or Venezuela even have any?
The Liberals are back in power.
Corruption rules the day.
Just face the fact that we will have to pay the bribes and blackmail to quebec.
Set up a hashtag: #paytheblackmailtoquebec
Petition trudeau to pay the blackmail.
You can sure see why the left invented global warming, er, climate change. It is a great tool for hammering the middle class that they hate. This article in my (lefty) paper even admits that wind power sucks so bad that utilities have to build back-up for it, at great expense to rate payers of course:
–Montana’s electric cooperatives will likely share in a $5 billion bill to comply with the federal Clean Power Plan, officials say.
The $5 billion is what Basin Electric Power Cooperative estimates it will need to cut greenhouse gases from its coal-fired power plants, while also adding wind farms and gas-fired generators as replacement energy sources.
“These billions of dollars would simply cover adding new generation and potentially impact the operations of our existing facilities,” said Mary Miller, Basin Electric communications director. “This does not even include the expense of additional electric or gas infrastructure.”
–
“The bulk of our generation was built during the Fuel Use Act of 1978, when we were prohibited from building natural gas base-load facilities,” Miller said. “Despite our investing billions of dollars to maintain and make these units some of the cleanest in the country, now the EPA is essentially telling us to do the opposite — shut down coal and build wind, which needs to be backed up by peaking generation — gas.”–
http://billingsgazette.com/news/state-and-regional/montana/electric-cooperatives-challenged-by-clean-power-plan/article_e5a76079-ad3a-5a2d-ab37-ee2216d0d0f4.html
I would like to see the climate change assessment they did on bringing in, feeding and housing 25,000 “Syrian” “refugees”.
Or the one done for Dear Leader’s Paris and Davos junkets.
Or do only some things need to be so assessed …
It’s another total victory for the Left.
Petroleum pipelines are innocuous, low visibility facilities – it took some years for the lefties even to realise their importance to the Canadian economy. Even crude oil is fairly harmless – it is eaten by a number of bacteria.
Nuclear power demonised; petroleum demonised; even dams in California demonised.
So can we sue the federal government when the next Lac Megantic rail disaster occurs?
Well, the Feds already took the province’s jurisdiction and control of health care away…and the provinces allowed it. So, there’s that precedent…I doubt this will turn out much different.
The whole CO2 thing is about consolidation of power…
“…environmental regulations, are we sure that Nigeria or Venezuela even have any?”
I’d be surprised if they don’t have environmental regulations. I’d be more surprised if they have to actually comply with them.
They’re killing your livelihood and your children’s and grandchildren’s futures and you’re letting them. CUCKSERVATIVES!!! Don’t use that old saw about “you have better things to do like work”…because many of you are unemployed. There are oil workers living in parks waiting for the price of oil to go up again. Imagine what 1000 men who know things about gas pipelines…could do!
See! Not ALL the stupid people work for obama! Obviously, since the Canadians elected the trudeau, they are just as dumb as many of their southern cousins. Do not be surprised at the damage you cause if you let the village idiots take over.
You were talking about that in another story, but you aren’t correct. The Canada Health Act has always been written with standards set by the feds and delivery by the provinces. The resources concept in the Constitution is much different and stronger. This is nothing more than an attack on the provinces resource constitutional rights. Of course, the NDP always wants centralization and our provincial NDP is actually probably quite pleased. Brad Wall, on the other hand should take a real swing at this.
“Peter Lougheed”!! Are you kidding me?
Guaranteed you just have that in your new Alberta premier.
Peter clinked his glass with Marc Lalonde (federal minister)as they brought in the NEP.
Don’t rewrite history.
What Alberta needs the “Western Canada Concept”.
And not soon enough.
I’m with Favil!
“Many in the oilpatch are QUIETLY seething…”
Therein lies the problem. Albertans, along with Saskatchewan and northen BC residents have nothing to lose now. Were I an executive of a major oil company, I’d amass an industry wide fund to “show the face of the unemployed” due to Liberal policy.
I’d run massive numbers of TV adverts showing the faces of laid off employees, their spouses and their children, laying the blame squarely at the feet of Trudeau and his environment minister. I’d overlay them with the salaries, benefits and perks that every MP receives and raise the level of anger and bitterness as much as humanly possible.
I’d pay those unemployed oil patch workers to descend on Ottawa and encircle every gas pump with their families – carrying signs with one of the PM’s ‘selfie’ pictures and proclaiming “Blame Trudeau”.
The cost would be miniscule compared with further delays to these vital pipelines.
The Canada Health Act has always been written with standards set by the feds and delivery by the provinces.
The Canada Health Act doesn’t apply if the provinces don’t take the Federal welfare. It’s only a contract the provinces can choose to participate in, or not. The same could be done with resources.
http://www.parl.gc.ca/content/lop/researchpublications/944-e.htm
The only explicit references in the Constitution to health care issues give the federal government jurisdiction in matters relating to navy hospitals and quarantine.
The federal government has intervened in the provincial health care field by using its constitutional “spending power,” which enables it to make a financial contribution to certain programs under provincial jurisdiction, generally subject to provincial compliance with certain requirements.
Obviously, if a province were to decide to forgo its cash entitlement under the CHST, it would no longer be required to comply with the requirements of the Canada Health Act. Although the Act is now linked to the new CHT, the penalties still apply to total cash transfers to the provinces for health and social programs, as well as to other federal cash transfers.
And where is the climate change assessment prepared for large scale wind development projects in Ont? The fine hand of puppet master Gerald Butts may be seen in this announcement from the PMO, also the one who helped draft Ont’s draconian Green Energy Act. Local planning, and public consultation was eliminated, opposition was bulldozed over and the towers built on irreplaceable cropland. That the scheme has been a colossal failure, does not prevent zealots like Butts moving on to the next big Green thing.(Ont’s AG reported that consumers had paid $37B more for electricity between 2006-14 than they should have, most of this due to overpricing of “renewables”)
It’s like Butts and Jr consider the Leap Manifesto to be a serious economic working paper.
Congratulations Canada ! You’re following the EXTREMIST Eco-Terrorist tactic perfected in the State of CA.
Destroy the infrastructure of anything related to fossil fuels.
Let the highways decay
Divert ALL but a subsistence amount of petrol taxes on “mass transit” projects
INCREASE taxes and penalties on ALL fossil fuel production and use
Slowly-but-surely increase Utility costs until the consumer has no more disposable income
Throw $$ at thousands of FAILED Solyndras … all in the name of transforming into a “green” economy
NEVER approve any new oil refinery, pipeline, or port handling oil tankers
Jerry (Moonbeam) Brown is ALMOST finished destroying everything that allows MOST Californians to thrive. Economical (read: cheap and efficient) Energy and Transportation are being systematically RUINED in CA. Funny … we share the same abbreviated name.
Maybe they are oil patch nasis and their, Trudeau and Notley’s, objective is to Nationalize the Oil Patch.
It is truly time for a Canadian Republic.
I’m kinda liking No Guffs idea, that would make good press 🙂
It is sad that Cons blew chance to “make a difference” and get pipelines and national interest projects done. Too late now, West can bend over, cause we don’t count in Lib world. Quebec and Gold Horseshoe, that’s the ticket folks.
Bombi will get billions, welfare and handouts to East will happen, Canada as an investment venue, is over. Sad but true.
Hunker down, it is going to be ugly.
Who is John Galt?? 🙂
I would like to see Alberta more explicitly link pipelines with transfer payments (Brad Wall mentioned that a few months ago) to shake up the welfare queens in the east. Perhaps Alberta’s refusing to buy Ontario and Quebec products might also help.
Different totally. Funding of healthcare is not the same as constitutionally entrenched provincial resource rights. The feds have used constitutional “spending power” in regard to healthcare as you mention but that doesn’t exist in terms of provincial resource rights.
In any event, the issue in discussion really is the comment in the story which is “From our perspective, this was more a case of political grandstanding and a not so subtle move to wrestle control of natural resources away from the province.”
I disagree with Guff completely. Waste of resources. Rather fund a serious separation movement and don’t let Preston get near it. He spearheaded the de-form movement to deflect western anger in the past…down a dead end road. To what end???
Harper said as much …in 1987. Starting a new federal party was a waste then and still is. Trying to impress Lieberal zealots is a waste of energy and resources too. Canada is not a republic and never will be without a serious threat of Western Seperation. It is a democracy…Mob Rule!
Free The West
cripsedy Ottawa real concerned about the qualite de l’air seeing as the chirese fired up about 200 coal generators in 2015 alone.
all part of the plan.
I once saw a movie scene where a bunch of dudes threw dice looking over a world map and giggled and laughed at the throw.
I really gotta review the last book of the bible regarding things to come, try to look thru the symbolism and ignore the alarmists. plan out a path for myself in a world where privacy is an anachronism and objective investigation is not an understood concept.
alas, too many who claim passenger jets are the means of spewing mind control chemicals into the high atmosphere and Apollo 11 is still faked.
p.s. regarding pipeline mgmt reform in ALTA, uh, isn’t that ground zero for New Demonic Party abusive insanity?
“The whole CO2 thing is about consolidation of power…” — absolutely. The Trudeau government is tied into the whole globalist, Agenda 21 (Now Agenda 2030). So is Notley. The idea is to squelch development — not promote development. The Canadian economy and our freedoms are being undermined by an onerous process of regulation and taxation. The Libs are back, all right, and Canadians will pay the price — a very big price.
Brilliant ! Absolutely correct.
Here in CA … virtually EVERY construction project requires a comprehensive (read: average $100K cost) EIR (Environmental Impact Report). The current vogue is to DENY projects that are built close to freeways, because of particulate matter pollution (and noise pollution). Another successful ploy is to require a comprehensive (read: $100K cost) traffic study to calculate the degradation of the local intersection “level of service”. Too many new automobile trips = a severe reduction in units and/or NO PROJECT. Countless worthwile housing projects are DENIED approval through an ever-increasing and convoluted regulatory process. And all you simpering middle-class SUCKERS keep voting these FOOLS into power. They’re cutting-off YOUR own nutz !! And you keep handing them more blades to do it !
Yet … MILLIONS upon MILLIONS of ILLEGALs and FAKE refugees FLOOD across our borders with NO NEW INFRASTRUCURE provided.
Very soon … the eco-leftist cabal is going to discover that they can’t have it … BOTH WAYS. Unless of course their goal from the very beginning was to “tear it all down, maaaaannnn”
Would not surprise me. Watch this very carefully. Trudeau of course is just the simpleton front man, but watch what his government does. They are after Provincial resources for sure.
Listen folks. They won’t do anything to keep us in…unless they think we might get out. It’s the “Art of The Deal”!
We don’t need a tweeting Brad. A deflecting Preston or a sly Peter who does one thing but successfully gets everyone to beleave he did something else.
Lougheed? The ultimate progressive. He’s held up as standing up to Ottawa?
I’d be willing to pay the bribe Stan mentioned above. Stand up and ask Corderre what his price is? Tell him to name it and we will pay – consider it our cost of being a Canadian.
Why not? If that is the cost of doing business in Canada lets get on with it. Why pretend it is something else?
91% Of Americans Aren’t Worried About Global Warming
http://dailycaller.com/2016/02/01/poll-91-of-americans-arent-worried-about-global-warming/
The feds have used constitutional “spending power” in regard to healthcare as you mention but that doesn’t exist in terms of provincial resource rights.
It certainly does…nothing at all preventing the Federals from setting conditions for any and all Federal funding transfers upon their regulations for management of resources. Including environmental conditions for pipelines and everything else associated. Especially if near a stream or water body…there are many ways they could go about it. The provinces set the precedence by allowing the feds to control healthcare through the extortion of withholding all funding transfers.
And then there’s this…for instance, all nuclear power plants fall into Section 92(10)(c)
All wellheads and pipelines could just as easily be put into that section, all it takes is legislation to do it.
Section 92(10) of the Constitution Act, 1867, also known as the works and undertakings power, grants the provincial legislatures of Canada the authority to legislate on:
“
10. Local Works and Undertakings other than such as are of the following Classes:
(a) Lines of Steam or other Ships, Railways, Roads, Telegraphs, and other Works and Undertakings connecting the Province with any other or others of the Provinces, or extending beyond the Limits of the Province;
(b) Lines of Steam Ships between the Province and any British or Foreign Country;
(c) Such Works as, although wholly situate within the Province, are before or after their Execution declared by the Parliament of Canada to be for the general Advantage of Canada or for the Advantage of Three or more of the Provinces.
“Restore Canadians Faith in ….”
Who are the Libtards kidding they ,through their corruption, have destroyed the taxpayers faith and trust in government.
Beyond all hope of restoration.
Under these professional kleptocrats, lying, cheating and stealing will be raised to fine arts.
The voters have spoken, 60% of those who cast a ballot said yes to theft from the maker, gifts for the takers.
The conservatives proved, there is no turning back.Bread and circuses rule the populace.
The actions of the Liberal Government to effectively cancel already approved pipelines, by introducing new spurious rules is typical.
Welcome to the banana republic.
There is no space for rule of law, property rights or mercy for the taxpayer in the frenzy of trough diving that is Ottawa.
Natural Ruling Party.
Restoring my faith in the average American
Nope, you are wrong again. The resources themselves are under provincial authority and jurisdiction. The extraction projects are ALREADY in place by the authority of the province. And that is what I have been saying all along….the pipeline project is just that….a pipeline project. It is nothing more than a “road” to move stuff. And the feds are trying to reach into the provincial jurisdiction which is why the province (not Alberta under the Bolsheviks), but Saskatchewan could take it on. It is a collateral attack on the provincial jurisdiction and authority over the resources located in the province.
And as I have said many times, the Canada Health Act ALWAYS considered the federal funding matter. I am well aware of the pipeline regulations and matters of jurisdiction having been in the pipeline industry since 1985.
The resources themselves are under provincial authority and jurisdiction.
But not the ‘works’ to move the resource out of the ground to market…should the feds decide to legislate it so under the Constitutional powers of Section 92(10)(c).
(c) Such Works as, although wholly situate within the Province, are before or after their Execution declared by the Parliament of Canada to be for the general Advantage of Canada or for the Advantage of Three or more of the Provinces.
http://faculty.marianopolis.edu/c.belanger/quebechistory/federal/declare.htm
In the past ‘local railways, grain elevators (even the grain, itself), Bell telephone, flour mills, feed mills, feed warehouses, seed cleaning mills, uranium exploration, atomic production, research and refining establishments have all been declared to be “to the advantage of Canada” and transferred under federal jurisdiction.’
It could also be argued that a “Work’ is legislated jurisdiction…the Federal gov’t, alone, has the legislative authority to judge what ‘Work’ is to the benefit of Canada. Jurisdiction is a ‘Work’.
“Courts have held that”works” have to be interpreted to mean something tangible, a “thing” or an “integrated activity” that would be presumably man-made since the clause contains the words “before and after their execution.” The courts have further held that the declaration has to be made by statutory enactment and that such transfers of jurisdiction as are effected under s. 92 (10c) are not necessarily permanent and that Parliament might repeal or modify any declaration.”
And as I have said many times, the Canada Health Act ALWAYS considered the federal funding matter.
And, as I have pointed out, the Canada Health Act is toothless without the extortion of withholding funding transfers. But the same general process could be used to control resources…
As per Joey:
http://www.nrcan.gc.ca/mining-materials/policy/legislation-regulations/8726
http://ualawccsprod.srv.ualberta.ca/ccs/index.php/constitutional-issues/federalism/765-b-c-premier-vows-to-shut-down-northern-gateway-pipeline-project-if-5-bottom-lines-aren-t-met-can-she-constitutionally
left, left, left left left. that is the march of the terminally stupid Canadians working hard to destroy the country. if only these idiots were the first to suffer as a result of their stupidity.
“…“restore the public trust in the way Canada reviews and assesses major resources projects….”
Really..?? I had no idea the said trust had ever been questioned by ANY Canadian.
What you are looking at folks is a bound and determined push by Liberals and the NDP to literally shut down (not just slow down), our Oil Industry in this country. This is corroborated by the latest Parliamentary Motion put forward by Rona Ambrose wherein the Conservatives Motion to support job creation in the energy sector was Defeated by both the Liberals and NDP.
Here is what an Oil Worker has to say: Excellent and well said (at a Kinder Morgan Protest)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwCZB97E45M
Just sent to each and every Western NDP and Liberal MP from BC, Ab and Sask. and to various papers in the country. I’m Albertan – Oil Industry “worker”, unemployed, and severely pissed with our countries parliamentarians. they simply don’t seem to give a damn about ANY of us.
“…Ladies and Gentlemen…..of the so called “Workers Party”.
Your recent denial of a Conservative motion is a direct smack in the face to the 100,000 of us Energy workers that are unemployed across this Nation. We fully realize that the drop in energy prices precipitated by the Saudi’s was not something that Canadian Parliamentarians had any control of.
However what you do have control of is the ability to shape, support and put into place those policies which would enhance our ability to find suitable employment within our chosen industry – the Oil Sands and other Fossil Fuels. Your complete Denial of responsibility to the workers of this nation who I might note, PAY your outrageous salaries and benefits will in time come to haunt you. I sincerely hope it does.
By supporting the Liberals in their plan to obfuscate & lengthen the review process by the NEB of various Pipeline projects flies in the face of sanity, as does voting against the Conservative Motion. By remaining Anti-Pipeline you must understand that the oil will in fact move, invariably utilizing this country’s Rail system. By your Pro Anti Oil – Anti Pipeline stance you will be the ones 100% responsible for the next Lac Magantic.
How disgusting your lack of clear thinking is in this along with your complete abdication of your parliamentary duty to the citizens of this country
By supporting Liberals (and Mr Gerald Butts), in their wish to completely stall any pipeline project, in particular the TC Pipeline proposal of Energy East shows you support those countries such as Saudi Arabia, Venezuala, Iraq and Iran among others in their continuing efforts to supply Irving Oil with product while tacitly agreeing to their mountains of Human rights abuses (something you seem to so often “champion against”). By doing so you deny Canadians from all provinces good paying jobs that would be created by this venture as well as denying Canada’s future energy Independence.
What a petty bunch of political opportunists each and every one of you so called Champions of the workers are – Karl Marx would roll over in his grave.
Who gets to do what is determined by the Supreme Court, and as we saw dramatically in the Nadon decision, they care absolutely nothing for what it says in the Constitution. There’s no point looking there for guidance.
Well said and good for you.
Hey! I just wanted to ask if you ever have any problems with hackers?
My last blog (wordpress) was hacked and I ended up losing several weeks of
hard work due to no data backup. Do you have any methods to prevent hackers?
