Hear my prayer:In California the postmodern and the premodern are but a few miles apart.

“The engine that drives illegal immigration is certainly no longer agriculture, but hotels, restaurants, construction, landscaping—and public assistance. ”
That last one of course is referring to the armies of union-belonging government workers who cater to the illegals. In case you haven’t read it already, may I suggest everyone pick up a copy of Ann Coulter’s Adios America. And then prepare for the inevitable manic depression to sink in.
Yes …Victor … THAT is EXACTLY the idea …
“I-5 is unchanged since I was a teen and approaching the nightmare of the 99. Is the idea to freeze the highways of a state of 40 million at the level they were when we were 20 million—perhaps either to lessen our “carbon footprints” or to force acceptance of high-speed rail? ”
Vast teams of “Postmodern” Eco Law firms (paid with taxpayer dollars) file endless lawsuits to STOP every Public road work (and most every other development) in CA. Gov Brown has declared his intent to FORCE Californian’s out of their cars. Cars are anathema to Leftists. Why ? Because automobiles are the most tangible expression of FREEDOM in our society. Cars enable FREE movement (along with the dreaded “suburbs” … where “my people” can escape the urban multi-culti experiment gone bad).
Sadly … he is right about the degeneration of CA

Agree that private autos represent an expression of freedom that is anathema to authoritarian type regimes. It is why every totalitarian regime of various political stripe, has restricted private ownership. Better the proletariat depend on public transportation, with routes and schedules determined by the authorities. One reason why public transport has not caught on in places like Ca.
The current crop of eco-zealot, like Klein, Suzuki, Gerald Butts favour policies that would get people out of their cars, but not of course themselves. That always remains the kicker with this type of advocacy, some pigs are more equal than others.

it’s a good first step. it was interesting to try viewing the infamous vid of the assault thru a variety of ‘talk to the hand’ and ‘in yer face’ street theatre.
Speaking of theatre, “the truth will out” from Merchant of Venice. Shakespeare should be compulsory but then, the progressives might have a dreaded literate and discerning educated class to deal with.
I can’t help but think it sounds like where BC is headed.
And yet, California has the biggest economy, generating a surplus of $32 billion in 2013. It is “have” state, carrying countless conservative states on it’s back, and is home to some of the most innovative companies on earth.
Hanson should stick to ancient history. Easier for people not to notice that he has no idea what he’s talking about.

There are some parallels with California. While white guilt progressives are slowly returning California to Mexico on the US taxpayer, BC’s white guilt progressives are slowly returning BC to the 1/16th or better racial purity ghetto leaders (FNs). The much broader green theocracy is a greater force responsible for the carnage of western civilization and transcends the somewhat advanced condition of the Left Coast.
The postmoderns are sitting on a powder keg and one day it will blow up in their faces. There will be empty gutted estates. Gated walls and guards did not protect the nobility in Russia in 1917 and they will not in California.
John, it is like I live in a faux world of utter economic ignorance. It isn’t just that they are ignorant, they revel in their ignorance and their fealty to their false green god. The school curriculum reinforces it, the universities preach it, the media relentlessly caters to the low brows and lefties and the voices on the right that should be standing up for freedom and perils of big government are shilling for the worst of the worst…and I find it hard to believe they are just being pragmatic. I’ve lived in the interior for the past 25 years and I barely recognize the land I came to love. This country needs another Dief!
John … are you pretending that the central thesis of Hansen’s article is incorrect ? That there isn’t a growing divide between the haves and the have-nots in CA … even WORSE than that across the nation ? Of course there is a THRIVING Hollywooden enclave, and a LUXURIOUS lifestyle in Silicon Valley – extending into the heart of San Francisco. Yep. PAY lots of $$$$ to really bright people … and they WILL create and innovate. That’s called C-a-p-i-t-a-l-i-s-m. And these VERY well-to-dos can absorb the ridiculously regressive taxation, fees, and eco-regulations with financial ease. But BEWARE the bubble! Sure, the State is absolutely FLUSH with tax REVENUE due to the latest tech bubble. I am SLAMMED/busy with more work than I can handle. I absolutely LOVE and THRIVE on $$$ RICH $$$ people hiring me. I am LOVING the Bay Area economy (at the moment). But BEWARE the smoke and mirrors “accounting” that proclaims a “surplus” in CA. Are you forgetting the DEPTH of the DEFICIT that CA was just dealing with ? The current “surplus” is built on “projections” of continuous economic growth and prosperity. This is the standard procedure for CA Leftist politicians. SPEND SPEND SPEND when flush with Revenue. Pretend it will go on without end. Create more and more State bureaucracy. GIVE more and more FREE STUFF to the underclass. And WHEN it does END … RAISE TAXES (again). Who gets KILLED in this economic charade ? The middle-class and below. I suppose that well-to-do Silicon Valley Leftists enjoy the f-e-e-l-i-n-g of “taking care” of those poor-poor unfortunates who aren’t in their tax bracket or zip code. Throw them a few farthings from the window of your shiny new Tesla. It will make you f-e-e-l better … but it won’t change their lot in life. All you are doing is treating the underclass like one of your pets. In fact, your pet is treated MUCH better (because they get to live behind the walls of your Atherton estate). Check back with me, when this current spate of prosperity goes bye-bye … PS … I seem to have recently read that New Start-up Investment Banking dollars are suddenly and dramatically shrinking in Silicon Valley. Hmmmmm …
… and NOW … the eco-Leftists are going positively orgasmic over “self-driving cars”. Uh, is anyone so deluded as to believe that THEY will be the “selves” programming their car ? HA ! Welcome to driving on the STATE grid. Where you will be TOLD and CONTROLLED how and when to drive. I honestly equate the enthusiasm for self-driving cars to the Jews who actually believed they were going to get a warm shower.
The Lower Mainland is already there for all practical purposed……I make pretty good money running a hoe building logging roads and I would have a hard time renting a house in Van never mind buying one.
