The story of Anwar Ali, the Pakistani boy who severed his own hand earlier this month, underscores the deep, dangerous and often overlooked threat posed by radical Islam–its assault on the mind.
It is gut-wrenching that a 15-year-old boy, who raised his hand at evening prayers after the local imam asked who among them did not love the Prophet Muhammad–mistakenly thinking that the cleric had asked who did love the prophet–would cut off his own hand to prove his faith to the imam, who had accused him of blasphemy after the incident.
What’s even more troubling is that, even as attempts were made to arrest the cleric, many in Khanqah, the eastern Punjab village where the spectacle occurred, defended both the imam and the boy’s actions, praising his devotion to God.

This is not just about repressive regimes and foreign-policy miscues that have helped this radicalism spread. This goes beyond the misogyny that says it’s acceptable to abuse women and the medieval customs that endorse a boy’s decision to sever his hand. This is an assault on diversity of thought and free thinking.
There is not an obvious military solution to deal with the instability and violence in the Middle East and North Africa, nor is it clear (even if we were successful in finding one) what the subsequent political resolution would be–the Arab uprisings have taught us as much. But we can all agree that radical Islam is a menace that is claiming not just lives, but hearts and minds too.
If we are fighting terrorism on all fronts then shouldn’t we be tackling the underlying ideology instead of casting this as something completely devoid of religion?
We are not fighting “terrorism” or “radical Islam”. We are fighting violent Islam (violent Muslims). Radical implies a “fringe” of a much larger population. “Violent Islam” is likely a far larger segment of Islam than just the active fighters. Violent Muslims would also include their active and passive supporters. Call it what it really is: the War Against Violent Islam.
Because it’s impossible for we infidels to figure out WHICH version of islam “we” should be fighting (violent islam; radical islam; wahhabi islam, shiite islam, sunni islam, etc. ad infinitum), Donald Trump’s proposal to stop ALL muslim immigration to America (until we figure it out) makes a LOT of sense ….FAR too much sense for political and media elites to ever grasp.
But … my beloved, Nobel Peace Prize winner President has told me that Islam is a beautiful, peaceful religion. So, we simply need to open our arms, with a loving spirit, to all these beautiful Muslims. In fact, I need to check my white, male, Judeo-Christian, “American”, values at the door. I need to be more “accepting” of “alternate” cultures that are different. (but equal) to mine. I need to turn all my Islamophobia inward, and ask myself about MY prejudices and fears. Any discomfort I feel is WRONG … and is MY fault.
There is a difference between Christians and Muslims.
My daughter accidentally put up her hand in class in maybe grade 8 when the question was asked whether she was Jewish. Not being one to admit a mistake, for the rest of her school life she proclaimed Jewishness, being professionally pissed off whenever indignation to anything anti-Jewish was required. She did manage to remain Christian without having a fatwa from her Anglican priest.

There is a high level of 7th century barbarism that remains undiminished in islam. Our European ancestors who fought them to a stand-still could not have done so with politically correct rules of engagement and concern for human rights, they fought fire with fire. Muslims are no more civilized than they were then, and unless we are willing to fight them as savagely and mercilessly as our ancestors, we cannot win.

Actually, I believe the adjective you are grasping for is “devout”. Devout Islam is the problem.

I agree. Devout Islam is the long term mortal enemy of western liberal democratic civilization and so far we have seen only the opening skirmishes. No countries have fallen yet, although some in Europe are getting close.
The immediate mortal enemy of liberal democratic civilization is Marxism and at the moment it is somewhat allied with what it thinks is moderate Islam to destroy western civilization, but does not want to believe that significant followers of devout Islam are present in the ranks of the “moderates”. Muslims cause trouble wherever they go. No predominately Muslim country is considered ‘peaceful’. In fact wherever they exceed 5% of the population they cause trouble. More importantly, almost none bring any useful skills. There is absolutely no good reason to encourage Muslim immigration.

Ten Obvious Reasons Why
Islam is Not a Religion of Peace
#1 18,000 deadly terror attacks committed explicitly in the name of Islam in just the last ten years. (Other religions combined for perhaps a dozen or so).
#2 Muhammad, the prophet of Islam, had people killed for insulting him or for criticizing his religion. This included women.

The fourth caliph (Ali) was stabbed to death after a bitter dispute with the fifth. The fifth caliph went on to poison one of Muhammad’s two favorite grandsons. The other grandson was later beheaded by the sixth caliph.
The infighting and power struggles between Muhammad’s family members, closest companions and their children only intensified with time. Within 50 short years of Muhammad’s death, even the Kaaba, which had stood for centuries under pagan religion, lay in ruins from internal Muslim war…
And that’s just the fate of those within the house of Islam!
#5 Muhammad directed Muslims to wage war on other religions and bring them under submission to Islam. Within the first few decades following his death, his Arabian companions invaded and conquered Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist and Zoroastrian lands. A mere 25 years after Muhammad’s death, Muslim armies had captured land and people within the borders of over 28 modern countries outside of Saudi Arabia.
#6 Muslims continued their Jihad against other religions for 1400 years, checked only by the ability of non-Muslims to defend themselves. To this day, not a week goes by that Islamic fundamentalists do not attempt to kill Christians, Jews, Hindus and Buddhists explicitly in the name of Allah.
None of these other religions are at war with each other.
#7 Islam is the only religion that has to retain its membership by formally threatening to kill anyone who leaves. This is according to the example set by Muhammad.
#8 Islam teaches that non-Muslims are less than fully human. Muhammad said that Muslims can be put to death for murder, but that a Muslim could never be put to death for killing a non-Muslim.

all the words in the world will not change the fact that all Islamic sects use the same Koran, the same hadiths and the same sira. the followers of islam are told that they are not to take we infidels as friends and if necessary, or maybe not necessary, kill us. the commands are straight forward, undeniable and all followers of islam must obey. we are fools when we say all muslims are not violent, the commands are there and sooner or later will be acted upon.
