The problem with socialism is that nobody needs to run an oil project;
A source familiar with the matter told Oilpro on the condition of anonymity that Husky Energy may shut down its Alberta cold heavy oil production (CHOPS) within days. The source said that the move will be made “in response to the unresponsive government of Alberta to the oil and gas industry” and low oil prices.
[…]
Husky is currently constructing 3 new steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) facilities in Saskatchewan, the source said, “basically across the provincial border from Alberta due to the political regime in Alberta. Alberta is no longer interested in oil and gas development.”
It’s almost as though I’m prescient.

Just to correct one of the comments in the link. An increase in the Alberta Corporate tax rate from 10% to 12% is a 20% increase, not a 2% increase.
…and a 20% increase in the corporate tax rate will not raise 20% more revenue for the government…but let’s let them figure that out by themselves.
Draaaainage, draaaainage Eli! I drink your milkshake.
It’s happening according to plan.
If you want to laugh and then cry, imagine for a moment trying to start a manufacturing company in Ontario.
Ontario, former jewel of economic force in the Demented Dominion, is now essentially impossible to do business in. Even retail is impossible, just look at what happened to Target. Sears will be next to fall. At the current rate, ten years will see the destruction of all the big chains in Canada.
I must assume that the Powers That Be, whoever they are and wherever they hide from our sight, have decided that Canada shall exist as a quaint backwater and enormous nature park for wealthy Americans, Europeans and Chinese to visit on holiday. No other conclusion makes any sense, as I cannot imagine said Powers being so utterly stupid as to not understand the end result of the policies they are enforcing upon us, the resisting public.
Well, one business is Alberta and Canada is booming: Mosque construction.
Yes will need about 200 infrastructure mosques just for the new Syrians
I assure you Phantom that Ontario Premier Wynne and her demented lieberal/socialist cohorts are indeed that utterly stupid and
they are even proud and brag about their accomplishments. Of
course the Ontario electorate are as clueless as Wynne and are
responsible for current sad state of affairs.
Husky has had plans to develop the Edam, their own feedstock instead of buying from others.
No sense wasting that business decision to hammer the AB dippers!
13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi Official International Trailer #1

Western governments need to have refugees behaving badly within their borders so they have justification to confiscate guns, increase government control, openly get involved in Syria’s conflict, etc. It all ties in nicely with the added bonus of distracting us from the economy. Why else have *all* Western governments suddenly decided to open borders and bypass proper screening? Paris attacks, gang rapes in Germany, Sharia “police” patrolling neighborhoods in Europe. The governments aren’t blind to what’s happening – those are exactly the results they wanted.
Tommy Douglas, former board member of Husky, must be rolling in his grave
If u r not capable of understanding the simple concept of a circle how can u ever expect to understand complex concepts like economics and finance?
Is it time for a wall along the Manitoba – Ontario border?
CBC’s Rosie Barton interviews Kevin O’Leary on his $1,000,000 pledge to entice Rachel Notley to resign as Alberta’s premier

What is surprising is that the Laurentian Elites in Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto have no clue. They see this as Alberta’s problem, not Canada’s problem.
Alberta is in for a very rough ride for the next 3 plus years.
The Notley Crew knows nothing about governing or economics and are never going to take advice from those that are far wiser in these matters. They will tinker with the Alberta economy because they can. They were given a majority government dontcha’ know?
The Alberta NDP are a toxic combination of arrogance, ignorance and lack of ability. I was going to throw in inexperience but, given their unwavering devotion to a failed ideology, they will never be in a position to govern responsibly.
It’s easy to tell Albertans that you reap what you sow but one has to remember that the majority of the voters did not choose this apocalyptic path and they must endure the inevitable suffering to the same degree as the short-sighted cretins who cast their ballots for “change”.
The very same people who say it’s a 2% increase will also say we were going to raise taxes 10% but we cut the increase to 5%, so therefore we are offering a 5% tax cut.
The media sells it and the liberals and liv’s buy it (one in the same). They then claim they cut taxes…..and morons buy it.
In order to vote there needs to be a test and you must be a property owner.
The incompetence on display across the country is beyond belief. Most elected politicians are failures at everything they have done.
We need term limits – two three or four year terms max and a half million a year salary, no pension. Half of Parliament is elected every three to four years.
The incompetence on display across the country is beyond belief. Most elected politicians are failures at everything they have done and they sit for decades stagnating and leaching.
We need term limits – two three or four year terms max and a half million a year salary, no pension. Half of Parliament is elected every three to four years for continuity. Elect the PM directly, become a republic similar to the US.
No surprise if you have had any dealings with Husky in last couple of months. Everything but the pads have been on the for sale list. Due to the potential environmental clean-up in some areas, you might even get paid to take the wells.
I think it is hilarious no one not one person is talking about our dollar tanking it is at 1.43 lol. Think that is an economic indicator? Please dont tell me its because the usa is turning around…20 trillion in debt i dont think so.
Hell I even watched CBC and CTV, briefly.
Not a mention .
Yet I sort of remember it being the “End Of Canada” when the dollar wobbled last spring.
Now its selfless all around.
No bias on our Presstitutes part.
A 78cent dollar is doom, evil Harper and a 69cent dollar is best Prime Minister Evah.
Tommy Douglas, former board member of Husky, must be rolling in his grave
Yeah, Sask is welcome to that welfare outfit, should fit right in. They’ve already run off with a bunch of public money for that upgrader. All of a sudden Husky doesn’t like gov’t interference. Hang on to your wallets, likely more corporate welfare in the offing in Sask, you can be assured Husky knows where the best gov’t teat is…
Never cared for Husky and their welfare mentality.
Sask has a lot to answer for, having begun the spread of cancerous social programs in Canada…
LOL Exactly, harper could have been the best most sophisticated most economically sound made every single perefect decision and the left would hate him still just becasue he is not left of centre …i bet if he ran for the liberals they would love him to bits. lol they are so pathetic just like our dollar.
1.51cdn for $1US at Saskatoon airport today. Have a nice day, snowbird.
Husky should be in the best shape in the area with the upgrader at Lloyd. They bought half of it for 3$ from the government partners
I hope you enjoy whats coming, Saskatchewan, I’m sure not going to enjoy what’s coming to Alberta. Make good use of it, don’t piss it away, and don’t let ^&*%$* ‘progressives’ come and f&^k it all up.
I don’t think Notley has a clue as to what is coming here in AB if things continue to deteriorate.
Once elected she immediately went to work to send a message to her base. Raise corporate taxes, initiate a royalty review, increase minimum wage, appoint a Minister of Energy who had no connection to the industry whatsoever and load up the government with ndp carpetbaggers from eastern Canada with a demonstrable bias against the Province and the energy industry.
She didn’t have the sense or caution to sit back and take stock of the situation she found herself in. Giddy with her prospects she forged on certain that she had answers to questions she had never ever contemplated.
Kevin O’Leary while pulling a stunt has kick started a debate that has legitimacy. Rachael Notley is simply incapable of managing the company the size of Alberta. She is 100% out of her depth. Not competent.
This will become more evident if the oil industry continues to shrink. She and her government have no answers. They have never evolved beyond a rump protest party, devoid of ideas capable of 21 century governance.
THE FIRST STEP IS TO RECOGNIZE THE PROBLEM. THE U S A AND THE OIL CORPORATIONS ARE VERY HAPPY WITH THE STATUS QUO.THEY ARE IN COMPLETE CONTROL. THE NAFTA PLAINLY STATES WE MUST SELL OUR OIL TO THEM AT DOMESTIC PRICES.
IF WE RAISE THE SELLING POINT TO THE U S A TO WORLD PRICES OUR PRICE TO MANUFACTURING AND THROUGHOUT MUST BE EQUAL ALSO THERE WOULD BE NO REASON FOR THEM TO PUSH THE RESALE OF OUR OIL, IN COMPETITION WITH THEIRS. OUR OIL IN THE GROUND SERVES AS A RESERVE TO COVER ANY OF THEIR FUTURE SHORTAGES. WITHOUT A WEST COAST OIL PORT, WE MUST SELL THROUGH THEM. WHY WOULD THE AMERICANS WANT TO CHANGE SUCH AN ARRANGEMENT. THE N D P MULCAIR IS PROMOTING A PIPELINE TO QUEBEC, AND SHIP TO CHINA FROM THERE; A 55 DAY TRIP FOR A TANKER AVERAGING 10 KNOTS. HE POINTED OUT THAT REFINERIES, AND HEAD OFFICES WOULD FOLLOW. THE NORTHERN ROUTE THROUGH KITIMAT IS BY FAR THE SAFEST, ON BOTH LAND AND WATER. WE DO NOT WANT TO INCREASE TRAFFIC THROUGH THE JUAN DE FUCA. , THE EASTERN PROVINCES CONSIDER THEIR EAST COAST AS PRISTINE, AND THE P E I BEACHES, THE N. B. LOBSTER BEDS, THE WORLD UNIQUE CAPE BRETON COAST, AND OTHER FEATURES AS ECONOMICALLY VULNERABLE.,
remember, your friends and relatives voted for these idiots and their policies. to say they did not know what would happen is a lie.
|Meanwhile, the CBC is trying to whip up all the NDP supporters to mock Kevin O’Leary statement. It made my heart warm when I heard one them say that she got layed-off and its ONLY because of the low oil prices. Thick as a brick!!!
Governments are the root cause of the “oil crisis.” Cheap energy is good for most economies, except those who are in the energy business, like AB, but even they do OK in the long run as marginal businesses are flushed out in a needed cleansing process. Everybody recovers except government.
IOW, our dollar drops, which makes exports cheaper, which helps manufacturing/export industry (that hasn’t been chased away or bankrupted by statist politicians), and over all our energy costs drop, which helps the poor the most. Instead government, addicted to revenues and basing their ridiculous statist “projections” on false narratives, gets panicky because they can’t get enough of their fix without raising taxes elsewhere, to push ahead their doctrinaire elitism and false narratives leading to “solutions” (middle class crisis anyone?). So they raise taxes and eventually get thumped by the voter when they have had enough of irresponsible government, though their tolerance for tax pain is very high. And so the cycle begins anew.
The unethical and dishonest tenets that removed Harper/CPC from power are not the leading edge of statist renaissance, they are but the wake of big government, the last gaps of the CBC and the other socialists as they continually grope in the dark while lying to, then picking the pockets of the voters.
The grass roots efforts and comments of successful people like O’Leary and Trump are the leading edge of frustration with big politics who’s adherents take good care of themselves while foisting their fallacious economics on the beleaguered taxpayer. That movement is well underway in the US. Even the left has their version in the mercurial Bernie Sanders who is now moving up on Hillary as she prepares for possible indictments and surely a rough ride over her negligent performance around the Benghazi debacle.
I get a good laugh when clearly intellectually challenged journalists and self-appointed unintelligentsia call those on the right, like Trump, stupid. I hope O’Leary is the Trump of the Great White North; that is the best news I could hope for in these bizarro economics times.
“Elect the PM directly, become a republic similar to the US.”
For your information, the president is not elected directly. The US has no federal elections. Understand? No federal elections at all. Capiche?
“I get a good laugh when clearly intellectually challenged journalists and self-appointed unintelligentsia call those on the right, like Trump, stupid.”
This is simply the manifestation of the fear, loathing and envy mindset that makes up the character of socialists. In the leftist’s world, a person’s success is always the direct result of gouging the consumer, taking advantage of the downtrodden, dishonesty or inheritance from someone who previously was guilty of these transgressions. Hard work, perserverance and intelligence never enter into the equation. Those that have enjoyed success are looked upon with mistrust, jealousy and even hatred. This attitude was prevalent during the dark years of socialist rule in Saskatchewan when being a “have-not” province was not only acceptable, but also desirable.
