We don’t want to downplay Scott’s amazing talent, presence or his ability to light up any stage with brilliant electricity. So many people have been gracious enough to praise his gift. The music is here to stay. But at some point, someone needs to step up and point out that yes, this will happen again – because as a society we almost encourage it. We read awful show reviews, watch videos of artists falling down, unable to recall their lyrics streaming on a teleprompter just a few feet away. And then we click “add to cart” because what actually belongs in a hospital is now considered art.

Two things strike me after reading this … uh, eulogy … ?
1) She is a VERY bright woman, and excellent writer, who has dealt with years of pain.
2) The HATE spewed at her in the comments are ASTOUNDING ! How could ANYONE argue with the pain, patience, and perseverance in her open letter to his “fans”
Couldn’t care less. Not sure what his poison was but I am too old to care if another junkie, alcoholic, or nutcase is dead. I grew up and left my self destructive behavior behind and am looking forward to many more grandchildren born to kids that don’t despise me.
Mary Weiland seems to be blaming Scott Weiland’s fans for helping to bring this on.
I don’t see it. The fans can not be responsible for an artist’s problems, nor can they know what’s truly happening in his personal life. The fans didn’t kill this guy. Scott managed it all by himself.
Mary writes beautifully about something she does not understand. She blames everything but the one person who is responsible for his life. He chose fame, partying over her and her children, he did that. He chose to find a new woman, have more children, not support his older ones, he did that. You know what else She chose him. Pretty sure she new what she was getting very early in the relationship, yet she chose to stay with him, pretty sure he was the same or worse when she chose to have child number one with him and when she chose to have child number two with him. He was what he was. YOu don’t go out and buy a summer sweater and then get po’d at the world because it doesn’t keep you warm in the winter. You want a winter coat, you buy one. YOu want someone of quality who will be responsible for his children, you mate with a person of quality who will be a responsible father and partner. You don’t pick a person who is hooked on drugs, alcohol and fame and expect them to be anything but what they already are. What hubris some woman have… She makes me sad.
Hey GL,
We don’t know all the ins and outs here, but, don’t blame her.
SW, as a typical junkie, was in and out of sobriety. She may have been involved with him early on when he was clean and sober, and things were well. Then the junkie falls into old habits, on the road, with all the wrong people, and the draw of heroin is vicious, rarely does the addict completely break free.
In the end, the junkie does everyone a favour and does that one last big final hit. After all, the junkie/alcoholic, in the end, has to take responsibility for their deadly habit.
The ex took responsibility, and got out of there, as she should have, to save the kids from the junkie wretch.
Yup, its a tragedy. Weiland did some awesome straightforward rocknroll with STP. What a waste.
