I’m sure it’s nothing that Premier Notley is going release her climate change policy today.
A day when the Edmonton Eskimos are playing the Calgary Stampeders for the Western Semi-Final.

The CTV piece speculates, among other things, whether other taxes might be lowered to compensate for the rise in the carbon tax. Yeah. Sure. This is a socialist government more interested in following their dogma than indulging in anything resembling common sense. The interesting thing is, taxes on energy affect lower-income groups more than any other, as a greater percentage of their income is spent on energy-related or energy-dependent commodities. And they, in turn, are the ones who look most to the warm, cuddly feel of socialism. We are so screwed. 2019 can’t come soon enough.
If you are going to tax carbon, place the tax at the retail level or as close as is possible. If you are taxing carbon in exports such as oil production, you are simply making Canada uncompetitive, as if our endless environmental regulations haven’t done enough damage already.
When I hear all the fuss being made by the environmentalist/marxist zealots about the advantages of wind power I think back to my uncle’s farm. All his electricity came from “green sustainable wind power”. He dreamed of the days when they could have reliable electric power from the grid like most of his neighbours had. I recall the “iffy” windmill and the shed attached to it filled with expensive batteries to store electricity. They paid a lot of money to eventually be hooked up to the grid.
On the transportation front, same story. There was a time when rail travel was the only reliable way to get around except for walking and cycling. The advent of the automobile liberated a massive segment of society. Now the “regressives” want us to return to the primitive transportation of rails, walking and cycling and primitive wind power. Is all this really a disguised attempt to bring all of us down to some primitive level of existence?
Alberta should brace themselves for for a “carbon tax” for all, and not just on industry as is presently done; and “Cap and Trade” support being presented in a new energy bill in early 2016.
Alberta has to coordinate with LIEberals to have the most effect on ALL Canadians. I am quite sure that Just-in and Notley will be discussing this on the way to and from Pairs after selling out sovereignty to the UN on energy. The New Dictator Party (NDP)will do anything to please Just-in – including Ontario LIEberals – of encouraging “green energy” such as solar and wind energy.
I’ll wait until the press conference is over … probably during the football game between Calgary and Edmonton – when nobody will be listening.
From 2008 to 2015 the USA doubled its oil production and declined the Keystone XL pipeline which would have seen more Canadian oil into the US.
Now our very own politicians are falling over each other promising the outside world that Canada will do something about climate change. Why does the United States get to double production while Canada has to cut back on the oil sands?
In short, a ‘carbon’ tax to fund ‘green’ projects and make Alberta a climate change leader.
I didn’t catch if the $20 tax was in addition to the $15 that we already pay.
A methane tax/plan will be forthcoming.
I hope they are hiring down at the windmill.
Cap and trade is the favored approach as governments argue that “It Is Not a Tax” but is a “Free Market Approach”. Also, quite coincidentally, it allows for maximum corruption and cronyism.
What is “disguised” about it?
According to Calgary Herald, the plan calls for the replacement of two-thirds of coal-fired electricity with renewables – mostly wind power. Good luck with the results of that policy, Albertans.
Remember, Aboriginals are all-virtuous.
Goodbye Alberta. It truly has been nice knowing ya.
Wait…….failure of Keystone was blamed on Alberta and Canada’s neglect on climate change? No….No…..NO it was NOT. Canada is the only country that the U.S. imports oil from that even had a price on carbon!!!! Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq do NOT have any climate legislation in place. Just another example of how the media has manipulated the perceptions on this entire fiasco.
The NDP is against everything that Alberta has going for it, abundant carbon-based energy resources in particular. Being morally, technically, and numerically bankrupt, the progressives all focus on a big government growth solution to a hypothetical and non-existent problem. The cost is born by the private sector middle class of whom few voted NDP. Sophomoric government of parasites and for parasites.
Replace coal with wind? You can, at best, complement (poorly) coal with wind because – when the wind stops blowing??? Unfortunately you have to keep steam up in the coal plant for when the wind stops.
Alberta has brand new coal fired plants with a 50 year phase out. Something wrong with that? We’re screwed. Warning – don’t ever elect fat and ugly people. You get Alberta and Ontario.
The stupid sheeple happily graze the pastures of lies sown by their masters – literally too stupid to put any of the pieces together. They merrily continue their bovine ways of voting and mooing and bahhing their way to the next feed.
Content until the PTB (Predators That Be) send a Judas goat into the herd to cleverly lure them to the slaughter house and ending their pastoral lives. (whether literally or figuratively)
You filthy, resources consuming, greedy, capitalist running dogs. We’ll tax the very life out of you & your kids. Next property inspectors will “assess” your living arrangements based on 1917 standards or “occupational space”, then tell you two “Syrian” families will be put up in your house…kindly make the necessary arrangements, as you seem to have an excess that could be put to “equitable” use. You then are informed that you will teach them the local language and will assume their costs to keep them warm & washed. Food stamps will be supplied & you then get a ration card for fuel & have to juggle vehicle or gas heat & the amount of electricity you can use, based on what season it currently is. Carbon taxes will have to be taken into account in that calculation. You start to sleep with door locked & a large, sharp steel implement strapped to your wrist, woken or disturbed 5 times a day by the “call to prayer”. If you have a daughter, she doesn’t leave the house. If you complain & it gets out to the local “block commissar” (believe me snitches will be every where, paid off for the per head fee to do so….extra food stamps or fuel rations) the CHRC will rule on your violation & off to “re-education camps” where conditions are worse.
Welcome to the Gulag. The commies have won without a shot being fired.
Pure speculation on my part but;
Did Rachel just do an end-run around Justin ?
She emphasized a couple of times that the tax collected by her NDP hoard will stay in Alberta.
She talks about Alberta’s plan and reputation, not Canada’s.
Her communique and the timing of it (climate meeting tomorrow) strongly indicate a ploy to keep the federal Libs away from the NDP’s new cash cow.
She can now say, ” Justin, I would like to contribute to Gerald’s scheme, but as you can see, there is no meat left on the bones. ”
A small thumbs up for our new overlords.
I prefer to be robbed by my own community.
There is a better chance to pick up an edible ort.
O happy day.
We now have our ‘social license’.
/bendover
Good thing I plan on leaving Alberta before 2017. Who is John Galt?
The NDP are just one letter to the left of NEP.
And the economic devastation will be the same.
Quietly, businesses and people are making their escape plans from Alberta. CP Rail did just that the other day.
Meanwhile, the Heralding frauds at that Toronto controlled left wing propaganda rag are soothing all their dim wits subscribers with a “all’s well” mantra so as to not spook them into also rushing the exits.
Obama killed the Keystone for his buddy Warren Buffet.

These taxes will be additive , a fed carbon tax and dipper tax on top , 10 $ a tonne is 15 cents per litre plus what ever they hit out at the plant sites. All on a cold country with huge distances between people
CP Rail did just that the other day.
They aren’t moving very far, Ogden Yard is just a few klicks SE of downtown Calgary. If they’d moved their HQ to someplace like Moosejaw, I could see eyebrows raised. Just tinkering with their bottom line. Nothing major and they own their own offices on their property with this move instead of paying lease costs to GWL Realty Advisers, who own Gulf Canada Square. GWL Realty Advisors are part of the Power Corp group of companies…you know the Desmarais family of LPOC connected fame.
That flushing sound is my retirement investment going down the crapper!
Too late now – thank you to all the NDP voters, NOT!
Premier Notley, you have done Saudi’s bidding but how much colder will this make Alberta?
“A day when the Edmonton Eskimos are playing the Calgary Stampeders for the Western Semi-Final.”
AND!!! Don’t pretend you haven’t been a Tout for the Bread and Circuses distraction that politicos use for distraction, Lance. Underwritten, no less, by everyone’s tax dollars.
How many LIVs don’t know the name of their MLA or MP, but DO know the starting lineup and coach of their favorite sports team?
You are part of the problem lance, not part of the solution.
Obama the Fink blocks keystone to appease OPEC and those jerks from GREENPEACE and THE SIERRA CLUB
