Obviously, this isn’t about safety and comfort at all. It’s about raw power. It’s about whose demands will get met whenever they make them — and who will be sacrificed to those demands.

The fascist totalitarian techniques they employ are a deliberate assault on the rule of law. That is to say specifically, an attack on constitutional rights by trying to limit or exclude free speech (just one example) in their enforced surroundings of influence and control. The army we see doing the shouting and screaming are of course merely the useful idiots at work. Those behind the scenes, the Trotskyite revolutionaries leading the mob behind the curtain, are the real danger ulitimately. They know about and are trying to execute Trotsky’s “transitional demands” as the weapon to collapse democratic and individualistic society one endless revolutionary battle at a time. The end goal: ruins and distopian Marxist enslavement. Bottom line – these people are dangerous not jut because of their intent but also, by their alarming stupidity.
He makes a good point. In essence, “safe spaces” and their close cousins i.e. “trigger warnings” and “micro aggressions” are really about creating a one-way street in which the self-styled “victim” is in fact the aggressor and can lash out at whomever, whenever and wherever they please without being held to account for their own behaviour in return. It allows the “victim” (in fact the abuser/aggressor) to pick and chose targets of their terror tactics with impunity and without even the most rudimentary facts, rules of evidence or due process for the accused who is the real victim. “Micro-Aggressions” allow the commissars to be completely arbitrary. Since no rational human being could possibly anticipate all the “micro-aggressions” the little red guards can dream up, it leaves everyone tip-toeing on eggshells in a minefield in which the position of the mines is unknowable and constantly changing. It’s classic Stalinist terror tactics with the same aim: isolate and paralyze. That being said, it looks good on the faculty of these places — you created the little monsters, now they’re devouring you.
I sometimes wondered what mccarthyism was like when it was live and in colour.

McCarthy may have been wrong about Truman but Britain exported a bunch of Brits to sway the American people to support Britain and not just concentrate on Japan. Most of these Brits were communists and worked in the propaganda factory called Hollywood and as a result aid the USSR. McCarthy was right and many of those Brits stayed in Hollywood and that is what the house of un American activities was about. One must be careful when mentioning HUAC Hollywood and Sen McCarthy in one sentence. The HUAC Hollywood hearings occurred in 1947, when McCarthy was an unknown juniour Senator. Having never sat in The House of Representatives, McCarthy was not involved with HUAC, indeed he never professed too much interest in the entertainment industry. Not until 1949 and his Wheeling speech, did he stumble on communism as an attention grabbing issue.Many others in Congress preceeded him His main work was done after 1952 as chairman of the Senate Committee on Government Operations. He was interested in government infiltration by leftists and communists.
Dozens of movies, books and articles portray Sen McCarthy as hounding movie actors, on the HUAC, but it never happened.
Two notorious Hollywood films showing how the Soviet peasants loved communism and lived well and had freedom of religion were Song of Russia with Robert Taylor and Mission to Moscow. Taylor protested against the script but was under contract and was told the War office wanted this benign portrait of the Soviet ally. Taylor later testified before the House Committee. Actors like Adolph Menjou who was a big star before fighting against communism in Hollywood never got substantial roles again.But we only hear about the blacklisted screenwriters who were party members.

See post above.Sen McCarthy served 2 terms in the US Senate, but never sat in the house.The HUAC preceeded him by almost a decade; he never was on that committee.
His Senate committee was Senate Committee on Government Operations. His main worry seemed to be government agencies, not the entertainment industry; he left that to HUAC.

I did an online search and found no evidence that he ever considered Truman a communist. McCarthy made accusations against Alger Hiss and others in the State Dept but it seems likely that Hiss was spying for the Soviets, so he got that part right.
Truman went to war with North Korea in 1950 so it seems unlikely that McCarthy would make such an outlandish charge.

Well, in Russia some tried and fought a civil war for three years and lost. Dozens of my extended family were among the 30 million plus that Len and Stalin killed. Fight back? How?
