    Will anyone mention the possible environmental hazards transporting oil by rail? Anyone mention the name Warren Buffet owns the railroad?
    I have a sinking feeling this outcome is just what the Liberals hoped for,a congratulatory phone call to Obama from the Dauphin Prime Minister of Canada may already have taken place.
    Nothing good can come of this, a lot of lost jobs and expensive electricity in this country bent on green energy, we are doomed.

  13. A $10 billion NAFTA claim might be in order. I’m sure the US has built about a million miles of pipeline and continues to build pipelines. The EPA, who are nuts, didn’t object. It was a political decision restraining trade and needs to be permitted or compensated.
    Obama is helping out his communist friends in Venezuela or corrupt politicians in Nigeria, the alternate sources of heavy oil. Apparently the identical product from Canada is somehow defective.

    Selectively rejecting supply is meaningless without cutting demand. Rejecting Canadian heavy oil just means that it will be sourced in South America or Nigeria or the refineries will shut down. The EPA said it was not an environmental issue and they are assholes.

    a news story showed up how they were opening trade negotiations with Brazil, so I printed up the appropriate citations and mailed them off to the Brazilian embassy in Ottawa ‘to whom it concerns’ that yanks CANNOT be trusted to abide by their trade agreements. of course, that is, unless it suits them.
    Canada even took the dispute to the WTO and THEY agreed we had a case. but the yanks, lying bullies they are, brushed it all aside.

    I have done an about face on the pipeline issue (to my great surprise) , because if it is simply to send heavy crude to southern ports to be exported then I understand why Americans are against it. If the oil was to be consumed by Americans themselves would be a different story.

  25. Arnie, why don’t you go look up “fungible” in the dictionary, then think for a while about the concept, then reconsider your position. Every barrel of oil America refines for China brings American jobs, money from China to the US for the value add on top of the money going to Canada for the oil. Not to mention the property taxes that the pipeline will be paying to every town it crosses. Every barrel of oil that China buys from Keystone leaves another barrel someplace else that China will not be bidding on. Oil markets are global. The more oil in the global market (supply) causes downward pressure on prices. You can read that in any economics book and it has been proven to be correct throughout history.
    This is strictly about trying to keep Canadian oil *in the ground* as people with a lower grasp of science than they have of economics even, seek to prevent the apocalypse they have imagined for themselves.
    It is amazing the amount of nonsense that Democrats successfully sell year after year.

You might be surprised that Ms CUPE, premier of Alberta has recently jacked the “locomotive fuel tax” (yes, there seems to be one, color me surprised) from 1.5 cents a liter to 4.5 cents a liter. That’s a 200% increase to fuel tax charges for any locomotive transiting Alberta to where ever. Doesn’t make any distinction between what the loads are, but I’ll bet it was aimed at oil by rail to the USA, never mind lumber from BC or anything else shipped by rail. CP stated they spend about $1 billion on diesel a year, so that hit could take a bite on their bottom line and that’s just transiting Alberta. Our other banana republic provinces might just take a cue from Ms Notley’s marxist bright ideas and pile on, too. Just doing her bit for Saving the Planet(tm).

    The jet bombers recall from action had nothing to do with Obama’s decision. Keystone was dead under Obama no matter who was Govment on Oct 20th. OPEC flooded the market with cheap sweet just to kill US fracking and Canadian oil sands. OPEC has waged war on north American energy independence for years using the environment as one of their weapons. Obama is part of this plan. Paris climate talks must not fail this time under these globalist extremists. Case in point: What to watch for very closely is a clause that would legally bind, under a world treaty, all targets imposed. Signatory countries would in fact loose the freedom of pulling out. A first step in relinquishing national sovereignties. This particular clause is still not final as hopefully, some Countries might smell a rat. Oh and BTW, China, India and many “developing” countries will be off the list of participants but they all approve the plan though because rhey also believe in global climate warming change. Don’t worry about Putin the last man standing, he will soon miraculously become a believer. The gang is still working on his spot in the club.
    As for the US congress reps under Ryan…We’ll see. I’m not holding my breath. Obama is a determined devil and he will obstruct it hard. Even skipping golf outings if necessary, he said that was his last project, oh also bring in more gun laws too.

    And to be clear, a poll by Angus Reid found that 42 per cent of Canadians support the pipeline while 48 per cent oppose it. So Ryan might want to take a look at the data. Mind you… he’s not really one for numbers and hard stuff like that.
    I guess I can totally see supporting the pipeline if you reject the well-established fact that humans are driving climate change, but that would be like rejecting the diagnosis from 90 out of 100 doctors telling you that you have diabetes. Just plain stupid.
    (More like 97, but I thought I’d give you guys benefit of the doubt that maybe there is a margin for error on the number of climate scientists that concur on climate change.)

    So this is my counter-manifesto. It is equally silly, but I make no apologies. This is how Klein and company want our children and grandchildren to live.

  39. Did anyone actually think Obama would pull an about-face on this file? He may have done us a favour at the expense of his own refineries and lost construction jobs. We need to hold the fairy tale prince to his word for getting an internal pipeline to tide water approved allowing the heavy crude to attract Brent pricing instead of the deep discounts we get from US refineries. He blamed Harper for no pipelines which is an expression we should get used to.

Not unexpectedly you glossed over the fact that Obama has demonstrated in no uncertain terms that he cares not her about the futures of the “next generation.” To the tune of 20 trillion. If you’d done your homework instead of pissing in the wind as usual, you might have known at 30 thousand scientists signed a petition that they were not convinced as to the veracity of AGW. So if 97% are convinced, that means there are just under a million scientists in a list somewhere. Find it would ya?

My preference was to control our own ports when it comes to exporting our export lifeblood including oil as well as all our other products. It is foolhardy to give Americans export control over this critical commodity. No one else allows another country to control the export of their oil? Why should we? Are we crazy?

    The oil continues to find its way to the Gulf Coast because that is where the refining capacity exists to add the best value to the heavy oil. No pipeline means the oil continues to move by rail but funny thing Obama doesn’t move to block that route.
