  1. I’m so confused. What’s this unmentionable-on-CBC R-Word? Republican? Reform? Retarded? Oh, wait, Redskins. Like the Washington NFL team. Oh, the horror! On the plus side, CBC at least didn’t say “Trigger-warning” before using the phrase “R-word.” Don’t worry, though: it should only be a matter of time before they start doing so.

    in a related story, a brother in B.C. worked for the local INDIAN band and got chastised by some official in some office when he used the term INDIAN until he pointed out it was the local INDIAN band that used the word INDIAN to identify themselves on the big sign in front of the building where he did the work …..

  5. It is amazing that a two-bit editor of somebodies dictionary has single handed adjudicated that the name “redskins” is now and henceforth for evermore a racist word. Did we hold an election for this? Is this a adjudication of Wikipedia, where not only does a majority doesn’t rule, but a minority of one can rule. Libruls have been doing this for a long time. A few years ago, Black Dog creek, bearing that name during the modern era, near Sand Springs, Oklahoma had the area blacks (African Americans) (Negroes), etc throwing hissy fits wanting to ban that name. Unfortunately, Chief Black Dog of the Osage Nation, around a lot longer than the previously named non-indigenous hyphenated crabby ba$tards, was much loved and respected by the Osage. It really gets to be fun and interesting when two protected groups have at it.

  7. It’s a senior hockey team for God’s sake with a Chicago Blackhawks logo on the jerseys. Get over it already and if you can’t, then don’t go down to the rink lest you be offended. The team manager pointed out that the team has had more than a few past and present native players and there was never a problem.
    There are just too damned many people these days with two less than admirable characteristics …. too much time on their hands and too easily offended. This has the unfortunate result of fools having the time to search out “offensive” names, logos, etc.
    I hope the Morden team tells the “offendees” to pound sand.

  8. I always use the term Indian, especially to Indians and never had an objection. I speak English, not Indian, and Indian is an English term derived from Latin. Indians from India call their country Bharat but again I call them Indians because I speak English.
    The other dirty word, Eskimo was supposed to mean “raw meat eaters” in Algonquin but someone forgot to tell the Algonquins. I am not sure how calling raw meat eaters raw meat eater would be offensive. Since the Algonquin theory doesn’t pan out there are other explanations why Eskimos should be offended but its all bull crap.

    In Western Europe and North America being rescued by White Knights, integral to their history, is now considered politically incorrect.
    Ironically, for the persecuted in Syria, their best hope is now a White Knight from Russia.
    Nigeria’s government has hired veteran white South African mercenaries to help protect northern Nigeria from Boko Haram’s Islamist jihad.
    If political correctness gets any worse, we’ll have to come up with another term for describing white snow.

    As a commenter at the link pointed out, “redskins” are potatoes,though I believe the correct name is “pontiac” potatoes,which is also offensive as Pontiac was an Indian Chief way back when.
    Why hasn’t the CFL addressed the awful Ottawa football club name “Redblacks” which I personally find offensive as it offend Communists and Negros?
    Sometimes, like RIM cMT, I just wish these activists would find something productive to do with their lives,and in the meantime just F-word off and quit bothering everybody.

  15. One morbidly oversensitive trouble maker, claims they are offended – I think I smell the first of the post-Truedough HRC shakedown cash-o-rama – having the wrong name is worth a big settlement figure in the new dark ages – beats a humping for a paycheck.
    If there were no cash value on neurotic over sensitivity, I doubt this hockey club would ever be discussed.

  16. I was looking up the Washington Redskins naming issue in Wikipedia and found this “hateful” use of the term redskin.
    In 1863, a Winona, MN newspaper, the Daily Republican, printed an announcement: “The state reward for dead Indians has been increased to $200 for every red-skin sent to Purgatory. This sum is more than the dead bodies of all the Indians east of the Red River are worth.”
    One thing that the writer didn’t mention was there was open war going on and 800 white people were massacred in Minnesota.

I find it amusing that these birks, and until recently, plaid-skirt wearing savages, feel compelled to state the obvious, but there you go.
    And as for the Caucasian-looking redskin in the photo, if he hadn’t of opened his yap I would have taken him for one of the wop miners from Sudbury or the half-cast Maori rugby players I used to drink beer with. I proudly wear my $35 brand new READSKINS hat (all original stickers in place) down to the closest strip mall here in Burnaby, where the lads tend to hang out, and have never got anything other than a thumbs up, from the local Natives.
