It’s really, really hard to catch;
A British nurse who was apparently cured of Ebola earlier this year is now in a critical condition, doctors have said, with experts expressing astonishment at the deterioration of her condition. […]
Doctors have said she is suffering an “unusual late complication” of her previous infection. Ebola virus can linger for months in survivors without causing serious ill effects or infection risk and is also known to cause long-term health problems in many patients.
However, medical understanding of the disease’s after-effect is limited due to the relatively low number of historic cases.
Nonetheless…
“The change in [Pauline Cafferkey’s] condition does not imply any increased risk to the general public…”
Never let a limited understanding get in the way of certainty, I say.

I remember the regular announcements back in the 1980s of how you couldn’t get AIDS. I think they were pretty much all incorrect.
“Her family have said local medical staff were slow to spot the recurrence of her infection.”
Slow? That’s unexpected.
>Dr Nathalie MacDermott, a clinical research fellow at Imperial College London, who also treated Ebola patients in West Africa at the height of the epidemic, said: “The change in [Pauline Cafferkey’s] condition does not imply any increased risk to the general public, as stated previously the risk to the general public who may have had contact prior to her deterioration remains extremely low.”
From CBC article: “British health authorities say at least 60 close contacts of Cafferkey have been confirmed. All close contacts are being closely monitored. Those confirmed as having had direct contact with her bodily fluids were offered an experimental Ebola vaccine as a precaution.”
Gee, the CBC article says the actions of the health authorities IMPLY an increased risk to the general public but the statements of the health authorities say otherwise. That’s unexpected.
Just as with the Fort Hood massacre, and with the Rotherham rape epidemic, the leftists in charge in this case were more interested in saying and doing anything to preserve a positive image of multiculturalism than is the problem at hand.
From the CDC to the main stream media everyone was telling us it was absurd to fear black people from Africa could ever infect us with a deadly disease.
That is why the nurse was declared cured too quickly.
Leftists will all get us killed if we let them.
“Leftists will all get us killed if we let them.”
I think their plan is to actually kill us.
The elites probably have a serum or inoculation to protect themselves from these diseases.
Ebola is hard to catch, but it seems even harder to get rid of. Kind of like corruption in politics.
My mother was a nurse, who trained at the Montreal General Hospital back when it was one of the world’s great hospitalls; her father was a very experienced physician and surgeon. They both viewed infectious disease as a resolute, resourceful enemy against which small victories were possible but major victories were extremely difficult. They would not be surprised with this news about ebola. Nor should we, and we should offer no respect to physicians who think otherwise.
They have given over 20 contacts the Ebola vaccine that was tried in Guinea. They’re not very confident that she wasn’t contagious, esp. to medical personnel. That’s way more than family. Last count I saw in the Scotsman was 26 vaccinated (using an experimental vaccine).
Yeah, there was a bit of a rush to judgment here.
Are you really trying to drum up Ebola hysteria? Seriously? There were statistically more deaths in the first world from falling coconuts.
Statistically, I’m less likely to get hit by a falling coconut if I’m standing next to a guy who was already hit by a falling coconut than I am to get Ebola by standing next to a guy who is hemorrhaging blood from the Ebola virus, which is a type of hemorrhagic fever.
from article: “However, medical understanding of the disease’s after-effect is limited due to the relatively low number of historic cases.”
Let me translate that for you: “Relatively low number of historic cases” means that statistically the cases that have been studied form such a small sample that no understandable conclusions about the after-effects of Ebola can be made by medical authorities.
So while hysteria is not warranted(and no one mentioned hysteria except you), caution and waryness of possible danger(Ebola has been known to cause epidemics in which most people who contact it die fairly quickly and horribly) are warranted.
Last week, I had the occasion to visit my doctor, and then the radiology facitliy at our local hospital. In both places, I was asked if had visited any country in West Africa and were my shots all up to date. It looks like these rubes in flyover country take the international disease situation far more seriously than our socialist betters. Of course, deep int he heart of the oil industry, we have a better handle on the world situation than our keepers, as dumb and ill bred as we are.

You really think this post isn’t inciting hysteria? There were over twice as many cases in the USA last year of the Bubonic Plague. Meanwhile the author is directly comparing Ebola to aids, and you have people claiming it’s some kind of leftist plot to control the population.
The only terrifying thing is how far removed from reality some people here are.
So in your world Bubonic Plague is like being hit by a falling coconut? Coconut conks are transmissible?
“You really think this post isn’t inciting hysteria?”
Clearly it is inciting your hysteria. You should check to see if your hair is on fire.
So tell me, how many instances of Bubonic Plague have been passed human to human in the last 2(two) years and we can compare that to how many instances of Ebola have been passed human to human.
I’ll state right now that Ebola transmission is several orders of magnitude greater, except that Leftists have put a halt on hard information of the exact number of transmissions in the U.S. for the same reason that they don’t report anything relating to Obama’s other policy failures.

Best information I can find on the Plague is in 2013 there were 783 cases reported worldwide, including 126 deaths.
The top kill rate of Plague is 60% if untreated, the top kill rate of Ebola is 70-90%. There is no cure or effective vaccine for Ebola today. They do know how to treat and cure people who have Bubonic Plague.
