The auto industry has a new solution to Americans’ fear that electric vehicles will run out of juice: a gasoline engine.

Hybrids suck and have so many driver monitors and feel so soulless, EV’s suck, EREV’s will suck even more, now even heavier. Nothing like a full empire of batteries plus an engine and a gas tank, and all the driver spying monitors.

What’s the solution when the electrical grid runs out of juice now that we’re overloading with Data Centers, and presumbably more EV’s? And, what’s the solution when the rarely used gasoline expires (usually combustability declines after about 3 months sinch the ethanol additive absorbs moisture)?
Reading what I wrote I realize it’s a perfect microcosm of creating issues to solve issues that create more issues. My definition of “Government.”
Having a built in gasoline powered genset to charge the battery is the stupidest idea ever. It was and still is a stand up comedy joke. Only a retarded brain-dead liberal would embrace this.
I spent way too much time reading, liking and replying in that Instapundit thread…
Some good information there, though. The people who love EVs defend them zealously, but they are just not practical for most of us yet.
I don’t know if they still do, but the Chevy Volt used to have a small gas powered generator on board to charge the battery when it got low. Extended the range considerably.
I must say though that I’m looking forward to all of the forthcoming blackouts and brownouts that will occur when we keep creating demand faster than we build infrastructure to support it.

That would make a lot of sense. Range anxiety is the biggest strike against EVs for most people.
You know how the communists (I’m not referring to these people as “liberals”, “democrats”, or “socialists” anymore) are always lecturing us about how we spend too much money on our military, or maybe taking our families out to a nice place to eat? Well, just imagine how many starving Africans we could’ve fed with the hundreds of billions spent on all this EV stupidity the last decade or so, both on a government and private level. I hope all the rotting corpses in sub-Saharan Africa were worth it, just so you can virtue signal to all your fellow communists about how you drive an EV!
My 2023 Prius is amazing. Awd,0-60 in 7 seconds, gets better fuel economy than my Suzuki 650. Toyota knows how to make hybrids. I find Toyota and Honda a way better fit than the crap Ford and Gm have been foisting on us. Better employers too. The Toyota Ecvt ( all gears, no belts) is engineering elegance.
“Toyota knows how to make hybrids. ”
Toyota makes the best hybrids, by far. Every head-to-head comparison has proven it.
(and if that’s not enough, check out the number of Prius taxis…9 out of 10 around here)

Wait! I thought EV’s were so sophisticated that they can generate their own power as they’re rolling down the highway … the EV is its own generator! … and even when braking with regenerative braking! EV’s are virtual perpetual motion machines!
I guarantee you that’s what most EV owners believe. Right up until they have to sit for an hour or more while their battery partially recharges.
The Chinese have invented a perpetual motion machine to be installed on their EVs (EVPM) giving them unlimited range – I saw it on the CBC. Only problem is that you have to stop every 200km to drain off all the extra energy.
As an aside, I’ve seen a proliferation of the VW Buzz in the Victoria area in the last few months. I also know someone that bought one.
They’ve been discontinued, the word for them is a FLOP. But, that didn’t stop the gullible from snapping them up when VW knocked $20k off the price, but, they were still $60k retail, as they did not qualify for the luxury vehicle tax relief at 55k.
They’re going to have fun when breakdowns happen on a discontinued 2 year production vehicle. Mach-E depreciation incoming. And no government subsidy.
You can’t fix stupid.
