    I would suggest to Mr. Alexander that he seek a conversation with Mr. Hamilton or other suitable counsel with a view to furnishing himself with an opinion on whether or not Ms. Barton’s, Ms. Southey’s and Mr. McGregor’s behaviour rises to the level of slander.
    Mr. Mulcair and his B.C. M.P., Mr. Donnelly, may be less likely candidates for legal recourse, but common decency, assuming that they have any, dictates at least an apology. I am surprised that Mr. Mulcair, being a lawyer, would have jumped in with both feet before having, you know, availed himself of the facts of the matter. Mr. Donnelly, on the other hand, has demonstrated that he’s a chump, which very much calls into question his fitness for office.
    As for Mr. Harper, he has been altogether too solicitous with respect to the media (Duffy, and now this nonsense), and it’s sucking the life out of his campaign. I agree entirely with Shamrock’s comments at the related previous thread that it’s time for Harper to aggressively counterpunch against the media’s systematic disinformation campaign deriving from his media availability sessions. As it happens, a simple comparison between respective Liberal, NDP and Conservative “scandals” with respect to the amount of taxpayer money missing should suffice on the former problem, while this absence of an application for refugee status should suffice on the latter.

  6. The greatest single MSM lie for today was that the father was offered refugee status in Canada AFTER the story hit the press.
    Where did this lie originate? What media organizations ran with it without confirmation?
    I can’t think of another example of a nation-wide (and indeed international, as the Canadian angle was in US press reports)MSM lie-fest that exploded so quickly. At best it was an example of a blatant lack of professionalism and at worst, it was a bold-faced partisan lie in the middle of an election campaign.
    Dang, I hope the silent majority can see this for what it really is….

    Do not allow them to lie, face them and call them liars by name. The US media shrieked and screamed at Trump, and tried their best to shut him up. He was vilified as a racist, sexist, uncaring pig. Trump double downed, continued attacking the liars and attacked their political buddies that were lying too. “Everyone” was outraged, except the American People. Trumps ratings went up, and none of the idiots in the DC-NYC-LA bubble could understand why. They attacked him harder, he counter-attacked and !Surprise! his ratings increased even more. Americans like honest fighters, I think Canadians might too.
    Contrast that with Hillary! and her continuing e-mail server lies.

  13. Once ISIS has been destroyed there is no logical reason for mass exodus from the middle east. Flooding Europe with incompatible refugees will only destroy the fabric of what little Christian culture is left and personally, I believe it’s already too late. They have already in the name of political correctness committed a willingness to save people that dislike everything they stand for (but will love them when it’s convenient) and who will reward them with complete domination and a guarantee of blood in the streets in the near future. The solution is to wipe ISIS off the maps and that won’t happen until the UN is seen for the waste of time they are, Nato stops cowering in fear and Obama is turfed out of office. Boots on the ground from all affected countries and a ruthless determination to take the garbage out once and for all. My personal preference would be no prisoners as they will never be what we consider rehabilitated. Show them the same mercy they show their prisoners. Pay now or pay later, this won’t go away until someone pays and at this time everyone is trying to shirk the bill except the Kurds. Turkey is more interested in killing Kurds than fighting ISIS. It’s a mess that will take leadership to resolve. The only real leaders seem to be enjoying the destruction of western civilization and are in no rush to intervene. The rest are too busy playing with a imaginary problem called climate change. But as often stated here…..can’t fix stupid.

    The drowning of a 5 year old refugee is grabbing headlines and Trudeau is front and center, where there is a photo opportunity, but with no answers and a sad record in dealing with the problem or preventing this crisis.
    When the world asked for support to battle the causes of this refugee crisis months ago, and fight ISIS and despotic dictators in the Middle East, who are the root cause of this humanitarian crisis, where was Trudeau and any leadership in support of Canada’s role to join with other countries and free the people from this tyranny.
    His response to other world leaders was you do the fighting and we will send parkas.
    The world leaders knew then that accomodating refugees (and sending parkas) was not the answer to this world tragedy but we must combat these tyrants that are the cause and they must be dealt with and eliminated.
    Not to be forgotten was Muldcair’s response which was not any better if not worse.
    Do these politicians now think that taking in these tens of thousands of refugees ( let alone one) is the answer and practical solution to the problem?
    Canada has done a lot more than many other countries in this battle and we should not be ashamed of our contribution, both militarily and humanitarian, in spite of criticism from the oppostion parties, who were only prepared to do a lot less, and do things that were not effective in dealing with this calamity or resolving the problem.

They turn out thousands of fighters each month, as new recruits continue to pour into the region. Geez, you’d think the coalition fighting IS doesn’t really want to defeat them, that maybe they want the refugees to flee the country and cause chaos in Europe.

    Well said and I totally agree. I thought during the last election that PM Harper should have fought back against the Media Party. So far during this election campaign the Media Party has totally taken the gloves off and aligned itself with both Trudeau and Mulcair. The Laurentian Elite was not amused when Stephen Harper and the Conservatives formed a majority government in 2011.
    rd is possibly right that PM Harper should go Trump on the media.Obviously being nice to the scum does not help, so he might as well call them out on their lies and innuendo.

  33. Interesting. CBC chose to feature Mulcair choking up. The cut to Harper was very brief, then a splice of him smiling, waving to crowds, then back to his talk. The coverage was sloppy and misleading. It was as though he was not concerned about the crisis, but having a cheerful light hearted event.

    World leaders have decided that military intervention is necessary along with humanitarian aid in Syria and Iraq where a despotic dictator and ISIS have created havoc and tyranny.
    Canada has contributed both military aid and humanitarian aid and we have nothing to be ashamed of.

Why didn’t Harper/Kenney/Alexander say today, “I know my opponents and the media will seek to make cheap political points out of this tragedy rather than acknowledge that the only solution is to defeat ISIS militarily and to ensure that Syrians feel comfortable staying in Syria. The NDP has opposed every military action we’ve participated in and the Liberals make a weather vane look steady in comparison. The media are another story. I’m sure that any decent journalist would be ashamed of the concerted effort to manipulate the facts to suit their own agenda and not the public good.”

  38. Now we all know that the Prime Minister is a gentleman and an all round class act, however I think that it’s about time that he finally portrays a bit of anger. The media has been working overtime in an attempt to influence the upcoming vote using tactics ranging from shameless cheerleading to outright, blatant falsehoods. The time has arrived for Harper to call the media on this one and, at the same time, castigate Dumb and Dumber for attempting to make political hay over the death of a child.
    Now when I say angry, I don’t mean spittle-flying, wild-eyed, frothing at the mouth stupidity a la Angry Tom. I would much prefer a firm, measured response in which the Prime Minister tells the media and his two gormless opponents that their latest failed attempt at embarrassing the government has reached a new low. The time has come to cease turning the other cheek and suffering fools gladly. I think that Canadians just might enjoy seeing the Prime Minister get a little p*ssed off …. and rightly so.

  41. I’m 68 years of age, and never once have I seen the mainstream media and/or Canadian politicians, especially LIBERAL leader Justin Trudeau, stoop so low. How can we ever again believe a word that comes out of the CBC, CTV and other leftist opportunists who used the death of a young boy to boost their failing images.
    I lost two younger brothers to tragic events that were beyond anyone’s control. The last thing on earth that I would have ever wanted to see was their bodies being shown in the media, much less having a Liberal cretin like Trudeau gawking at the photo and using it to his advantage.
    I specifically target Trudeau because he began shooting his mouth off about this event before he even had a clue as to what had happened.
    The boy died because his parents were forced into asylum by ISIS gangsters that Canada and other nations are attempting to fight off. Why the boat capsized has yet to be clearly explained. However I do believe a life jacket would have avoided the drowning. Sadly in such situations, those commodities that we take for granted here in Canada are just not available to refugees.
    This is indeed a sad day for journalism, a sad day for Canada. As for Trudeau, here was his response when he could have made a real difference in preventing the boy’s death.

I agree with others here = I’m no supporter of PMSH but the media party has simply gotten far too insidiously prejudiced and dysfunctional – I for one would like to see the PM give them a bloody nose – simply expose their rank bias and malevolent grinding hatred of all things that challenge their fairy tales.
    Harper has to realize the media has injected itself into the political process as an active opposition party and needs to be dealt with as such.

  47. I read that NDP MP Fin Donnelly said he gave a letter on that family’s behalf to a ministerial person. On Canadian television a statement was hastily made. “He got it wrong”.
    Wrong indeed, no such letter was delivered.

    Not quite. It is the Syrian civil war that is really exacerbating the migrant problem for Europe right now.
    I agree that eradicating the Islamic State ought to be an article of faith for the West, Russia, China and even quite a number of Middle Eastern countries too. The Islamic State is an outrage and represents a constant challenge to every self-congratulatory notion and nostrum we have about our own society these days. As long as it exists, anything that comes out of our mouths about refugees, tolerance, gay rights, women’s rights, cultural this and that, minorities and multiculturalism, etc., etc. is a hypocrisy of the highest order. The Islamic State and its adherents need to be seriously thumped out of existence with serious firepower.
    However, Syria is a much more intractable problem, one we’ve largely created for ourselves by our naïve encouragement of a revolt against President Assad (deluding ourselves that it would all be over very quickly and the happy newly liberated Syrians would soon be sipping low-fat lattes at the Damascus Starbucks while checking their Facebook pages on their tablets). As a result, the alternative to Assad is now – drumroll! – the Islamists.
    The trouble with “solving” Syria is that we will have to hold our noses and actually take a side and kill anyone who gets in the way. In fact, assuming the obvious, that support to Assad is too unpalatable and support for the Islamists is unthinkable, we will almost have to create a new side: by reviving the fortunes of the Free Syrian Army perhaps? And there is no guarantee that the side we pick won’t end up as an Assad look-alike regime or lapse into chaos.
    Whatever we do in Syria, someone will be miffed – the Russians, the Chinese, the Saudis, the Iranians, the UN – so it follows we would have to back up our actions with the diplomatic gumption to tell them all where to go and exactly how to get there.
    But hey, why expend actual sweat, treasure and blood on this problem when we can all just sit back and continue congratulating ourselves on how wonderful we are and tut-tut over the terrible things going on over there (which are all the fault of Harper and Bush of course)?
