EDMONTON, AB: Wildrose Official Opposition Leader Brian Jean released the following statement in response to a position taken by star NDP candidate Linda McQuaig that Alberta’s oilsands should be left in the ground so that Canada can hit its climate change targets:
“While the federal NDP have a long tradition of campaigning against Alberta and its energy sector, it is deeply concerning to see one of their star candidates and top spokespersons on national television calling for a moratorium on oilsands development.
“As the MLA from Fort McMurray I know that Alberta’s oilsands have been a leading driver of Alberta and Canada’s economy and a source of hundreds of thousands of direct and indirect jobs. Developing the oilsands means prosperity for all Canadians.
“Premier Notley may be a member and supporter of Thomas Mulcair’s NDP but as Premier of Alberta she must actively repudiate this crazy idea in the strongest terms possible.”

“The American tendency to romanticize animals that have been given actual names and to jump onto a hashtag train has turned an ordinary situation — there were 800 lions legally killed over a decade by well-heeled foreigners who shelled out serious money to prove their prowess — into what seems to my Zimbabwean eyes an absurdist circus.”
If Linda McQuaig is a “star candidate”, I’m Barack Obama.
And now for something completely different.
The new “Captcha” has worked fine for me thus far. On one occasion it was a little slow (two to three minutes), but the updated page finally loaded.
The only troubles I had with the old Captcha were that occasionally it was not completely readable (in which case the next one usually would be), and that sometimes it wouldn’t accept an obviously correct code. On the latter occasions, the displayed message was a repeat of one I had already seen in another thread, meaning there was a glitch somewhere in the software. Solution: Control-C (cut) on my message, reload the page, Control-V the message (paste), enter Captcha code as required, done.
Now I’ll enter the Captcha code, showing 7000, and this message will display!
The HARPER CONSERVATIVES can win the ELECTION IN CANADA,….. all Harper has to do is this……

It runs about that long every time I post, and others here have mentioned the same (as well as occasional 504 Gateway Timeouts). A 2-3 minute postback is not “a little slow”; it’s a fatal UX issue.
FORT MCMURRAY, Alta. – The Alberta Energy Regulator says it is investigating reports that approximately 30 blue herons have died at an oilsands site. http://www.newstalk650.com/content/reports-30-herons-dead-oilsands-site
Funny how every bird death, true or not, traced back to the oils sands is reported in the media, but bird deaths caused by bird wackers and solar panel farms is totally ignored.
Further to your point Ken, the Globe and Mail reported that between July and December of 2009, 602 birds and 1270 bats were killed by wind towers on Wolfe Island in eastern Ontario. On average, that’s more than 23 birds and 48 bats per week. It appears, too, that raptors (owls, hawks, etc) are most susceptible. But like you, I don’t expect the MSM to spend too much time lamenting the loss. Considering Ontario has more than 7,000 wind towers and Wolfe Island’s 86 represent little more than 1% of the total, I can only imagine the annual carnage. The loss of 30 blue herons is unfortunate, but hardly on the scale of Wolfe Island.
“It runs about that long every time I post”
Glad I am not alone, thought the problem started after a 8.1 change ~ week ago.
Also the system gets lost if the post has an error.. Must do recall & check displayed post for accurate edits (after Preview) it goes back to previous preview…This has been a long term problem, but cured in previous versions, but keeps coming back
BTW MS 8.1 is a pile of crap…SLOW updating, Slow to do any Operating system major functions (batch file type stuff)
The security of 8.1 is non existence. The remote control feature seems to have a back-door key the everyone knows…Updates are a wide open feature.

I’d love to meet you some day, at Tim Horton’s on Main St. in Moose Jaw, Sk., or maybe in Woodstock, Ont.
Maybe they should put up some windmills as a kind of barrier around the tar sands to prevent the birds from making it there.

“Kill” anyone virtually: It’s relatively easy to register false death certificates and have someone declared dead. No one thought of the consequences when automating these systems and making them available on the internet.
