My Grandad was white, he got an free ocean cruise, landed in Canada.
He was taken out of an orphanage in the slums of Glasgow at the age of 9 ended up as a unpaid laborer on a farm at Portage walked down the road at 11, never looked back.
The prosperous white farmer had 6 daughters, no sons
Grandad ate in the kitchen with the dog.
He said he kept a good eye on the dogs bowl in case the dog had some meat left on a bone.
Nobody gave a damn, he eventually married a beautiful Metis woman, they had 10 kids, 6 survived childhood.
His wife died of appendictus before the age of 30.
He did end up with a farm he homesteaded.
4 of his boys served overseas in WW2.
A privelaged existance indeed.
He was in his 60’s when his boys went overseas, he was cutting pulp wood in the bush with a buck saw and axe carrying it out to the road on his back paid a fella with a truck to haul it to the mill where he piled it again to prove his cord.
He got 5 dollars for a cord cut in the Ontario bush in wintertime.
He never felt guilty, neither do I
On the other side, my Mom’s, her dad joined the British Navy at 15 in 1877 served boy and man till 1910, I have a copy of his service papers.
He had all kinds of “cruises” off the Horn of Africa and Sierra Leone.
Back in his day flogging was still permitted.

All other races can learn from us. The South Koreans did, the Japanese did and most recently so did the Chinese and East Indians … watch them grow and prosper and innovate … they will be great someday too if they continue on with their capitalist direction.

I too was born white. My mother and father (who actually stuck around and that may be important) fed me, clothed me, housed me and educated me. They taught me right from wrong, good from bad and instilled morals, values and a work ethic. My father was a positive role model and did not engage in abuse or violence of any sort while my mother was a true mom in the strongest sense of that word.
With all that white privilege, I retired at 53 years old and I did it all by myself by employing the important knowledge gained at my parents’ knee in my formative years.
Now tell me, how many people of colour, both domestic and imported, can match the picture I painted in the first paragraph?
Maybe if these people of colour adopted the lifestyle in which I was raised, they may have better and more successful outcomes.
But hey, what do I know??? I’m just a whitey….

I was privileged enough to get a position that paid $128.50 a month whether I wanted it or not, and the very real possibility of coming home in a body bag. I don’t think I’ll waste my time with that loser.
The greatest privilege most white people have is being raised by white parents, as many above point out. My father was a farmer, had muscles like Popeye. We were all educated well in morals, never having been convicted of anything other than traffic offenses. We all get along well with people with respect being constantly taught. We all have at least one university degree with some having a lot more. We all had professional careers and ended up back on farms raising our kids the way we were raised. Out of 30 or so cousins, not one gay and all married with only a few divorced. I guess I earned my white privilege walking to the outhouse in the dark at 40 below.

My white father came to Canada as a 19 year old with his parents and younger siblings…no money, no prospects and lots of guts. When I was growing up Dad always had at least 2 jobs, mostly menial.
My white mother was the 9th of 10 children born to subsistence farmers in Ontario…no money and no future but lots of guts. She left home at 15 to move south to Preston a small town where one of her brothers got her a job in a shoe factory.
I am the oldest of the 6 children…now 60 years old
None of us are perfect, but thanks to our parents we learned the “priviledged”values of hard work and familial love.
I do not feel priviledged to be white…I feel priviledged to have been raised by these 2 people.
