“Let’s focus our space agency on Muslim outreach”, they said. “What could go wrong?”, they said.

Every accident has a Muslim connection if you close your eyes and look hard enough.
More likely a case Putin?
Putin Case
“NASA administrator Charles Bolden and other officials stressed that the space station crew is in no immediate trouble.”
Why should NASA be worried, the feel good theory will involve pats on the back and group therapy to deal with failure.
NASA has fallen into the political nonsense of AGW & Muslim outreach. Have they anyone left who knows how to Fly?
Similarly, the pride events on the east coast were rained out and chilled.
To Kill A Mocking Rocket.
. ARE WHITE MEN GODS? … MAYBE!
Consider this before we credit the head hackers with anything scientific or even worthwhile in any possible way … we can include any possible contribution from Africans in this scenario as well. We did it all. SE Asians are smart, they picked up on us and are growing wealthy through emulation.
Obama is presiding over a low point in American history. The moon is long forgotten. The idiots can’t launch a rocket 100 miles up. They can’t beat stone age tribesmen in little local wars. Americans seem to have lost the ability to excel at anything. Is that the reward for hiring an affirmative action president?
The “Muslim outreach” is a phantom. NASA has never spent a single dollar on Muslim outreach, and Congress has never appropriated a single dollar for Muslim outreach. That’s what Charlie Bolden gets for listening to Obama.
And this rocket was NOT being launched by NASA. NASA is the customer. The rocket was launched by SpaceX.
They still don’t know exactly what happened; Elon Musk tweeted that they are going through the data from the last few milliseconds with a hex editor to try to figure it out. My best guess is that a Helium valve got frozen open, leading to overpressurization of the LOX tank on the second stage.
The Dragon capsule ejected from the stack whole; if it had been the crewed version, the crew would have survived.
Where in the universe is Alpha Centari?
What ever happened to the good old days of the (Atlas Centaur) rockets.

Find yourself a copy of Flying magazine July 1989 and have a read of the article Moonstruck by Gordon Baxter on 20 years after that launch.
The punch line is that NASA’s Johnson Space Centre didn’t recognise the names of Collins, Aldrin and Armstrong.
Ed,
While what you say is true it doesn’t address the larger issue of what exactly is NASA’s main focus. When a key representative of NASA numbers “Muslim Outreach” as a key objective and when NASA stops building and launching its own rockets to meet its current needs you have to say WTF does NASA do with its multi-billion dollar budget. I guess there’s always CAGW.;-)
On another note, It is encouraging to know that the equivalent of the manned capsule was ejected and would survive this accident. The history of space exploration has shown that accidents are inevitable. It is comforting to see that we are learning from our mistakes.
NASA is the customer because NASA can’t do it anymore.
“NASA is the customer because NASA can’t do it anymore.”
NASA got erectile dysfunction then?
“he wanted me to find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science, math and engineering”
The key word there is “historic”.
I sincerely doubt the Muslims had anything to do with destroying the satellite though.
NASA was historically successful when they used ICBMs for their boosters.
The U.S. needs to make more ICBMs. Fug the treaties with Russia which limit their production.
Putin says that Russia isn’t following the treaties.
Thats because they’d never reach out to the Mormon or Rastafarian communities!
Muslim? Or Canadian? Canadians have systematically done their best to destroy or sell off the very considerable Canadian achievements in science and technology.
I will not go into Canadian anti-“science” policy but because most of the readers (if any) will be Canadian, I will make just one reference to Canadian technology – “Orenda Iroquois”.
John…I wonder how many here actually know what those two words allude to…without having to look them up on Google..??
Most of those in the Program at the time of cancellation went to Florida and Houston…and made considerable contributions to that particular effort….Landing on the Moon.
But in typical CBC enhanced anti-Canadianism, we continually refuse to blow our own horn…when we really should.
Agreed.
If memory serves, several thousand joined the Gemini project and presumably stayed on for later work.
If I ever get to Saskatoon I intend to p*ss on John Diefenbacker’s grave, and I hope others will do likewise.
No, the dolts will not know what “Orenda Iroquois” refers to. Nor are they likely to recognise “Candu”, nor know nor understand what has been done to NRCC.
F**k them.
As for NASA, its achievements in astrophysics are without equal. If they have fallen on hard times, at least they have the glory of their achievements, and immortal fame, for consolalation.
