Nonsense. In truth, it’s just ethnic Russian militia volunteers armed with surplus gear purchased privately for protection just like in Crimea 2014 and northern Georgia 2008 before that./sarc
While this is of course a political concern it could easily turn out to be a massive strategic error, as long as western governments do honour their treaty commitments.
Kaliningrad is surrounded by NATO states with coastline for easy resupply and reinforcement in a sea we can close to the Russians with three submarines. Belarus is a Russian ally and is close but support in time of war is still going to be all but impossible. If NATO politicians find their balls and actually stand up to aggression they could simply end up trapped and useless, even bombed into submission.
We always tend to underestimate the quality of NATO military. Yes the level of forces is not what it should be, but we have always proved to be able to cope with jumped up dictators simply by having kit and men that are up to the job.
If Russia was to mount a co-ordinated attack throughout the Baltic states with Belarussian assistance this would be an important force. 25 years ago that could have been a serious threat – except that Russia was already occupying the Baltic states. Nowadays they just do not have the capability. It’s OK to have inferior equipment if you don’t care about your soldiers and you have enough of them, but they just don’t have the force size and with the maturity of the internet they cannot just send tens of thousands to die without political repercussions. They cannot hide casualties from their people as they have done before.

Russia’s move to reinforce Kalinin grad is merely a reaction to America’s plans to put significant amounts of heavy armor into the Baltic states. They plan on having in place a reinforced tank brigade of about 5,000 men a few hundred miles from Moscow and St. Petersburg.
While not as serious, this is similar to the Soviet’s plan to put IRBM’s in Cuba. It is a continuation of the steady expansion of NATO into what was once the Russian heartland. It is provocative in the extreme. So provocative, one has to wonder if the US government actually wants a war in Europe. Are they so deluded as to think such a war would be conventional only?
The quality of US strategic thinking is evidenced by Libya, Egypt, Iraq, Afganistan, Syria and Ukraine. I think it is fair to characterize Obama, Kerry, Carter, Odierno and Breedlove, to name only a few, as criminally insane.
The only sane intelligent actor here is Putin, and he could easily be overwhelmed by events, especially a move by Romania and Ukraine into Moldova, which might be on the table.
Nobody is denying the current administration is an evil and corrupt perversion of how the american government is supposed to run. Reagan said it best peace through projection of force.

The U.S. didn’t restart the Cold War because the Cold War never ended.
The West just declared victory when Russia downsized and rebranded, but Russia got lean and mean and kept up their side of the Cold War until the West has been forced to hold up their side of the conflict again.
Why don’t you Russophiles tell us why Ukraine choosing to form trade agreements with whomever they want is such a bad thing for a peaceful Russia?

Same thing in Russia. Putin even wrote a university dissertation on why the path of fascism was the right road for Russia to follow.

In 1998 Putin became unelected Russian President and has ruled Russia ever since.(nearly 17 years)

The fact is that neither side is “good” – The globalist elites play war and get rich, everyone else pays for it and dies.
Until western nations face the fact that the elites of their countries treat their citizens as slaves and commodities to empower and enrich themselves, the cycle continues.
Globalization, open borders, and a plethora of “Domestic” policies are only aimed at keeping the slave/ master game going as it has from the dawn of civilization.
