  1. It will be great if American Pharaoh can overcome the odds. The 37 yr drought has been a long one. I think changes in horse racing since the 70’s has stacked the odds against two crown winners. There will be a couple of horses in the field that skipped the Preakness but ran the Derby and the two week period to the Belmont may be too short for a full recovery. So if AP wins the horse will for sure “have proved it’s worth” as a champion.

  2. The owner seems a strange fellow. Refuses to say whether he is a Jew or a Muslim. How do you pull that mirage off?

  3. American Pharaoh just won it. I had to rewind it and watch it twice. Very satisfying to see victories like this.

  4. You mean he’s a Christian Copt?
In other sporting news, Canada won it’s first game in the women’s world cup of soccer.

  5. 5 million dollar bonus for a triple crown winner
Possibly a Copt But I think the Jews were Red Sea pedestrians a few years back

  6. I have asked owner’s of Triple Crown races (4 of them)why they do it, beside the money, glory, tradition and fame. They fall back on “improving the breed”.
Well, you can’t race in the Triple Crown unless you have a registered thoroughbred. Thoroughbreds come from (3) Arabians breeding with British horses over 200 years ago. Imagine the Olympics if only Brits and descendants of Brits could race from 100 meters to the Marathon because that is who won in Athens in 1896. You would get nowhere.
So, American Pharaoh’s times in two of the three races would have had him trail Secretariat by anywhere from 29 (Belmont) to 37 lengths (Kentucky Derby). I won’t count the Preakness as those were very cuppy and sloppy conditions a few weeks ago – that would have been over a 50 length defeat.
The sport can be enjoyable in its own right to watch and gamble on. I just don’t get the improving the breed nonsense when you really can’t improve the breed. Also, all but one world record on grass or on dirt have been set by horses older than 3. So to continue the British Olympic analogy, no runner who is not a Brit or a descendant of a Brit can race and by the way you must be 17 or less.
The whole thing makes no sense to me and I believe can improved immensely by opening it up to experimentation in breeding, age of the horse and so forth.

  7. So do you think they could break him to harness so he could compete at the Rangeland Derby?

  8. Poor fellow will have to spend the rest of his life with amorous females.
Some of his ancestors won races and then had to go back to pulling ice wagons.

  9. He hasn’t past the drug test yet…. Lance Armstrong has been seen lurking in the area. But seriously, the next step for American Pharaoh is to announce gender change.

  10. Things like Horses races and any use of animals realy bothers those PETA idiots so more horses races please

  11. All pure breed animals face the same future. With a closed stud book there can be no improvement. The gene pool is stagnant and will eventually collapse under it’s own weight. The thoroughbred breed is a classic case of inbreeding. Improvement is not possible.
