If you listen to enough modern rock and metal music, what with the shredding/blasting guitar sounds and distortion pedals and stomp-boxes and so on, it can be a real eye opener to re-listen to the surprisingly smooth and clean sounds of the earlier hits of the Rolling stones, and to hear the extent to which they favoured finesse and musicality over brawn. As exhibit A, here’s a remastered version, using a clean transfer from the master tape, of the original Under My Thumb.

Excerpt from “Frankly My Dear“, in which Ol’ Remus has a word with the ol’ Afro-American contingent:
I recommend reading the whole thing.

Nice groove, enjoyed that EBD.
Was unaware of Remus or Woodpile. Thanks for bringing him to my attention. Extremely well posited piece, presented without rancor or vitriol.
More “settled science” is completely — and I mean completely overthrown. It turns out that despite intensive study for centuries, it took us until 2015 to find the lymphatic system in the brain:

Time for an SDA vote!
Thanks for all your effort. J
I’ve always been a fan of the ‘Stones’.
‘Let it Bleed’is a great album and they have others that approach that pinnacle.
Having said that…I caught their 77 or 78 ‘Some Girls’ tour in a 3,500 seat venue in Detroit. Etta James opened for them.
And for that I will be grateful forever.
““I am opposed to the requirement of a ‘C’ grade to get a diploma,” he said at the May meeting. “A ‘D’ is a passing grade no matter what UC or Cal State [schools] say.”

The inevitable next step after a lifetime of participation trophies.
I can still remember have records like the old 45’s 33’1/3’rd amd the LP album still wish i had them their worth big bucks today
Petrj: Re Passing mark.
My old high school teacher used to say, (when we had a 50-60% passing mark): ”If you ever have a heart attack, and require heart surgery, do you want a surgeon who had a 55% passing mark in college, or a 90%??
Socialists and communists must love the CBC . After all it is the premium government funded news outlet, thus it’s one stop shopping for the horrors of democracy and how fortunate the people are to live in a country as pure as Russia, rather than the horrible conditions under a tyrant like Harper

Joe Citizen – re passing mark
I got through university bachelor’s degree on the basis of “50%’s a pass, 51 is wasted effort”.
And it was noted that similar types seemed to end up pretty well professionally.
Then I got the opportunity for a post graduate degree in USA. To have hell scared out of me on the requirement to maintain a “B” average – translated at 80% +.
Turned out that was about the same effort as our 50% in practice.
So grading varies. And fixation on grade ignores things like common sense and outside experience.
Or think of the fallacy of the MBA –
Even if you got 95% grades, in the real world you likely won’t have 95% of the information. And you can make a real cock-up on the 5% even if you did unless you also have some extras that your grades don’t show.
Just my experience, YMMV.
The other way around is also very intriguing, how thoughts and moods and stress, etc. could affect the health of the rest of the body.
Ontario Premier Wynne and her Liberals are going to be supporting Trudeau in the upcoming federal election. If there is any sanity left in Ontario and elsewhere across the country this should be the kiss of death for Trudeau. Wynne knows she can manipulate Trudeau to get what she needs from the federal government if the country goes off the rails and elects this empty suit. What the McGuinty/Wynne Liberals have done to Ontario will then be the fate of the entire country.
Beatles all the way. Rolling Stones misogynists.
Got to see at Maple Leaf Gardens one of the last Beatles concerts. So much screaming including my own that you could barely hear the music.
Recently watched film about James Brown in which there is a brief appearance of The Rolling Stones when they first came to America. Looks like Jagger copied some of Brown’s moves.
“…this should be the kiss of death for Trudeau.”
Maybe I am too pessimistic, but all the years of constant media bashing of Harper and the soft Liberal/NDP propaganda delivered by the MSM seems to be having an effect on the LIVs whose sole purpose in life is seeing what the latest survivor show is about.

Public school system Diplomas, really are just that now, participation awards.
They use a credit system, based on courses taken in 10, 11, & 12, adding up to a minimum, 85 in BC, to graduate. So, of course, our young geniuses see that magic number as a success point, instead of what it really is, the bare minimum.
Saw my daughter go thru this 4 years ago, and yeah, we fought, but, a decent education at our local CC, woke her up, and she is now gainfully employed at 21, in a good paying job, in the HR sector. Better than any of her slacker friends who are still at menial labour girlie jobs, and partying their lives away, while their parents pat them on the head, and tell them how wonderful they are, living in the basement.
My son now is in the same boat, knows everything, barely enough credits to pass, math is hard (despite being a real smart dude, he’s a slacker at the moment, not unusual, in fairness). The choice of paying rent at home, (or finding your own place, if that is deemed mean and stupid) and going to college while M&D split it 50/50, tends to snap them to attention and focus them.
Ah to be young and be the smartest person in the world again! Aren’t participation trophies grand.
In hindsight, I regret not putting them into private schools, the public system is a total mess, dictated by the unions, with standards being lowered to glorify a government system unto itself.
Pathetic. But, its no coincidence that the private school system is flourishing in BC. The unions are losing!
AGW RIP.

“Global Warming and the Age of the Earth: a Lesson on the Nature of Scientific Knowledge”
“The world stands on the verge of committing itself to limits on the emission of carbon dioxide that would drastically reduce the use of fossil fuels. If this fateful decision is made, the economies of developed nations will be strangled. Human prosperity will be reduced. Our ability to solve pressing problems, both human and environmental, will be severely limited. We have been told that these shackles must be imposed to forestall a hypothetical global warming projected to occur some time in the distant future. But to date the only unambiguous evidence for planetary warming is a modest rise in temperature (less than one degree Celsius) that falls well within the range of natural variation.
The validity of warming predictions depends upon the questionable reliability of computer models of the climate system. But Earth’s climate system is complex and poorly understood. And the integrity of the computer models cannot be demonstrated or even tested.”

“Electric cars still not ready for prime time”
“Electric cars are nothing but taxpayer subsidized toys for the rich and famous”
“Twenty years ago, in May, 1995, I had my first op-ed published in a major newspaper, the Los Angeles Times. The title was Pull the Plug on the Electric Car Mandate. In that column I pointed out that battery-powered (non-hybrid) electric vehicles (EVs) were not ready for wide-scale adoption for a variety of reasons, including their high cost and their inferior characteristics compared to regular internal combustion vehicles of the day.
I also observed that there was a distinct possibility of aggravating environmental problems rather than easing them, as the EVs of the day used lead-acid batteries and could increase ambient air lead concentrations, still a significant issue at the time. I argued that “Parking pricing, roadway pricing and mass-transit privatization are the lowest-cost and most equitable solutions to the air pollution problems we face today.”
Sadly enough, I am writing essentially that same op-ed today.”

Mulcair and the NDP to the rescue, saving us from the Senate, as only he could do, given he doesn’t live in the real world:
Mulcair vows to consult premiers on abolishing ‘archaic’ Senate if elected:
“If the NDP forms government following the fall federal election, Mulcair says he would take the question of Senate abolition to the provinces, which, along with the Parliament, would have to unanimously agree in order to scrap the Upper House.”
Mr Mulcair can keep his “consultations” short by starting with Quebec, where they will say no or demand unreasonable concessions, like a constitutional veto for Quebec, which will be unacceptable to the other provinces, so we shall see a speedy end to his “consultations.” Gotta laugh at how these folks who have never been in power are so sure they can fix everything with their fairness and charm.
I’m harkened back to hope and change, to the oceans stopping their rise, and AQ neutered. In the narcissistic mind of Obama that is.
“Mulcair encouraged the Senate to “act” on the findings involving Kenny and Boisvenu, whose cases have been referred the RCMP.
The Senate recently appointed former Supreme Court of Canada justice Ian Binnie as a special arbitrator for senators looking to dispute the report’s findings. Three high-profile senators — Speaker Leo Housakos, Opposition Leader James Cowan and Conservative Leader Claude Carignan — who were named in the report as having problematic claims, were involved in the appointment of Binnie.
Mulcair condemned the appointment process as an affront to “natural” justice.
“There’s a basic rule of what’s called natural justice and it says you that can’t be a judge in your own case. But isn’t that what we’ve got here?” said Mulcair. “(Housakos) should have had nothing to do with that. He should have recused himself but instead he’s trying to get himself off the hook.”
Apparently only certain Senators should “act” while others “will try to get himself off the hook.” with the appointment of Binnie whom apparently the three named Senators somehow had a hand in.
OTOH no NDP Senators have been named in the probe. Why is that? No need to guess eh?
Is this guy for real? Roll up another false narrative. BTW Mr Mulcair how is the party planning to pay the millions they accepted under false pretenses for their satellite offices. Oh right, that was the “partisans” ganging up on him. Now that’s (not) leadership!!
