  1. Put 38 million people into a Desert setting that seldom sees rain and then panic when there’s not enough rain. At least the pacific smelt are still doing fine. Thank you for asking.

    The climate change nutters are once again blaming carbon fuels for this “epic” event, which with even minimum research shows it to be quite normal and not unusual at all.

    Could the problem be mismanagement ? Money for every social cause under the sun while proudly shutting down anything that might create a job through mind numbing bureaucracy ? Millions of illegal aliens using valuable resources without contributing to cost ? Kicking the can down the road when they knew another drought was inevitable sooner or later ? High speed rail to nowhere when desalination plants were a bit more logical, if not as glamorous ? Diverting millions of gallons water a day to flow into the Pacific in order to save a bait fish only environmental activists care about ? The answer is yes, but thank goodness they can blame it on climate change. Otherwise some might suggest incompetence. Decades of incompetence.

    I get a kick out of Socialists!! An Alberta ”award winning” journalist named Kyle Bakx is making a futile attempt at raising fears over Alberta’s oil companies having to face Ms. Knotley when the new legislature opens. I laughed profusely at this suggestion.
    Companies such as Shell, Exxon and BP have gone into the third world countries that are controlled by ruthless dictators. They’ve worked in sweltering 50°C desert heat, and where they need an army to protect their equipment (rigs, pumpers, pipelines and refineries) against attacks. In the end, they came out of there smiling and with a profit.
    I’m sure they’re just shaking in their boots knowing that they have to face Ms Knotley and her Socialist entourage in the next session of the legislature, in Alberta, Canada. Dream on Kyle–dream on.

  8. Joe Citizen – let’s have a discussion about the patch and if their response to the Notley vote is well reasoned…
    You know very well that a pledge of royalty review means that the oilcos will pay more. Ever have a “review” done of your income taxes? Admittedly a review COULD mean that the regulations will become simpler, but history dictates that all that will happen is that they will remain in place, and the government will collect more.
    While those oilcos that you mention have indeed done business in sweltering heat, with tyrants of foreign countries, the main difference between that scenario and Alberta is that Alberta’s wells just aren’t that prolific anymore. In addition, the cost of basically doing business is much higher -more $ per barrel to get the oil out of the ground, and the environmental clean up costs from even a modest spill are stupidly high. In addition, most of the companies that can produce the oil are smaller ones who employ your neighbours, not those with deep pockets. Add to that an aging infrastructure, and now a far too zealous govenrnment who buys into the carbon schlock – well you don’t have to look very hard to understand where this is going. Nor do you need to be a genius.
    The fact of the matter is that smart oilcos, with deep pockets are going to snuggle up to Notley. Unfortunately for the rest of us, they will prove the adage that all “all animals are equal. Some are just more equal than others”.
    I think the CBC article was well reasoned, although much of the CBC audience will respond much like you did.
