They can have my dog when they pry the leash from my dead cold hand.
Yup. First they came for the horse owners….and I did nothing. And then they came for the dog owners…and I did nothing. And then they came for my cattle…
And if there happens to be any Ontario farmer reading this who thinks that your favourite farm association or cattlemen’s group will help you out if you ever get in trouble…have another toke.
Some advice from an old guy who has helped beleaguered animal owners – in no particular order:
(a) Keep all your animals out of sight from professional busy-bodies.
(b) Let nobody onto your property for any reason unless you know and trust them.
(c) Keep photos and other info off social media.
(d) If the OSPCA comes knocking, tell them to come back with a warrant.
(e) Get a hold of your neighbours and agree to come to each other’s assistance in the event the OSPCA comes knocking.
(f) Get active. Join and support your local Landowners’ Association and put up your “Back Off Government” sign.
ANIMAL RIGHTS STUPIDITY
Time to change the national anthem. The word Free seems so outdated.
This problem is only going to get worse as more urban people confuse animal rights with human rights.
Every province needs to amend their provincial constitution to provide for Property Rights and also the Right to hunt, fish and trap.
Every federal political party has animal rights activists and we don’t know how many of the judiciary are so inclined, but it will be a growing number.
I have 3 dogs, somehow the limit in Airdrie Alberta, and they are all purebreds. The government here and in Calgary have an adversarial relationship with dog owners and yet, and YET, veterinarians don’t seem to see the need to organize the same as anti-dog groups like bicycle owners have been doing for a decade.
Time to tell your vet that if they don’t get politically organized that their chosen career is facing a box canyon with snipers on the ridges.
