Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Nothing is more stupid and futile than the efforts of the enviro leftist moron community. Cannon fodder for shady groups that are using them to profit from this, people like Buffet and others like him. They have accomplished nothing, and as usual have only made things worse. It’s patently obvious that rail shipments use more energy than a pipeline, and building thousands of new double hulled rail cars will require more energy than a fixed pipeline. In some ways I’m glad they have held up the pipeline. National Steel Car in Hamilton is doing well, after almost closing a few years ago. They are struggling to keep up with demand for new tank cars.
And while the Buffets of the world are pocketing millions, the wacko environmental nazis love it when trains derail and blow up. That way they can continue to condemn oil and spend taxpayers money on useless oversized fans.
This is the reason old Scrooge Buffett is shilling for the Hildabeest, to keep his gravy trains rolling with bitumen and put another dollar in his pocket, he doesnt care how many people incinerate in little towns along the way, how many drinking water sources are ruined by derailments into lakes how many farmers cant get their grain shipped, its about another dollar, another dollar for Scrooge and whoever he has to grease to have his way.
Eco-Stupidity and green idioticy Tree Huggers/Granola Munchers idiotic all the way to the top and these same eco-freak groups whos HQ’s still use electricity and running water the Greenpeace garbage Scow RAINBOW WARRIOR II with those silly looking sails and yet it still uses disel fuel and so dose Greenpeaces other garbage scow ARCTIC SUNRISE plus the fact that Greenpeace got in trouble recently in Peru with their idiotic litttle stunt on the Nazca Plain and back when they unfurled the stupid banner on Mt Rushmore show Obams ugly pig mug and yet they can always depend on some clebery idiot(Robert Redford for one)to do some stupid money making junk mail for them becuase Redfords a dedicated eco-freak and idiot
This is a bit off topic but one of the major contributors to derailment is the condition of the rail bed. Most of it was not designed for mile long tank trains. It’s the rail bed that is failing not the tank cars.
I expect that you have something there. Oil is a divisible liquid load and even if there are sufficient baffles liquid does move and a not 100% stable roadbed could have problems with a mile of liquid. Maybe someone with rail knowledge might come in here.
Good to see Vivian still working on these issues.

Another example of green stupidity. The most efficient gas turbine generating station in the world is going to close, and coal plants will run instead as an unintended but easily forseen consequence of Germany’s energy policy
I thought it was pretty ironic that Buffet came out in favour of Keystone after Obama veto the bill. I guess that’s how he sleeps at night. I also heard that he de-invested from Exxon and purchased Suncor stocks. I think he is getting ready for the Republicians getting in and Keystone being passed.
It is not all about the rail movement of crude although it is taking pressure off the systems. Lots of pipeline other than Keystone has been/is being built. IMO it is all about taking pressure off the Cushing Hub. Enbridges southern link to the Gulf Coast is up and running taking 825K bpd from Cushing. Upgrade of the line out of Chicago to 800K bpd moving ahead. Keystone is being circumvented.
Now we have old friend Stockwell Day pumping the idea of a Prince Rupert refinery which could be supplied by CN Rail. I don’t understand the economics but finance at $11 B is probably doable. Interesting to see how that evolves.
The disparaging remarks about Buffet is bizarre IMO. Rare investor who has delivered above market value to shareholders for decades. A great acquisition of BNSF which does haul crude. Last I checked so did CNR, CPR and UP, so what is special about BNSF? I don’t know of anyone who has donated $55 billion to charity.
” I don’t know of anyone who has donated $55 billion to charity. ”
Me neither. Link please.
12,000 foot trains for starters.
The tank cars aren’t baffled, but they don’t slosh much except when slowing down or speeding up, and most of them tend to be full.
the TSB found a piece of rail that they will likely call the cause of the last one up north, see: https://www.flickr.com/photos/tsbcanada/16221633764/ they might take a year to finish the report.
Thank you.
Providing that many of these granola muncher’s/tree hugger’s are into this Gaia poppycock of crack-pots like JAMES LOVELOCK
