Ontario: Saving the planet through homeless sequestration.

Not to mention the amount of money shoveled into the homeless industry would be enough to give every single homeless person a place to live and food to eat if given to them directly. One recent estimate was that there were 5,000 homeless people in Toronto. Now the numbers may be slightly skewed because SJW and activists knew about the official survey that was going on and camped on the streets to help inflate the numbers.
Working as a security guard in downtown Toronto, in the complex I was stationed at we were dealing with about 20 individual homeless people on a weekly basis. Three were mentally ill and needed to be hospitalized and given medication. One was a female that had been apparently repeatedly raped by her fellow homeless cohorts. Every day at 0530 they would line up at the one corner to receive their Sally Ann care package and then immediately throw half of it away as they didn’t like what they were given.
Shelters were all over but they preferred camping out in our parking garage stairwells. It was so bad that the property management had to request and extra guard just to patrol and evict them. They finally figured out a simpler solution. Air freshners and extra cleaning coverage in the worst stairwells.
We will always have the homeless with us. Even more so when organizations work hard to keep them empowered on the streets. Free food, free clean (new) winter gear, mobile laundry facilities at times. Yep, $20,000 a year would keep them in a decent apartment or rooming house with food. Shame the SJW want to feel needed and employed and suck up about twice that in helping the homeless.
C Homeless – freezing in the dark – in the streets of Toronto – we’re not making this up.
Probably couldn’t pay their heating and electric bills.
Ontario is a disaster of epic proportions but the premier has time to interfere with school board issues like sex education for grade one students.
if we were housing the mentally ill in institutions as we used to they would not be a danger to themselves or anyone else. the misplaced concern by those on the left has created the problems we now have.
well, those that die are no longer “home-less”
But, But, But, we can blame PMSH for all of this!
Somehow this has to be the fault of residential schools and racism.
First things first. What we haughtily call ‘homeless’ are not homeless. Their home is on the street/shelter. For a goodly number of them you could give them free housing and they would trash the place and go back to living on the street. Except for the mentally ill who can not make rational choices everyone of the ‘homeless’ is ‘homeless’ by choice. I know. I work with them every day. One of the ways I get them off the street is by emphasizing that they are in control of their lives and that they have to start making better choices. None of the ones I work with are allowed to blame ‘the system’. They and they alone are responsible for being on the street.
It’s understandable why lefties don’t want it to be easy to declare someone mentally incompetent.
Anyways, homeless street-people are not a sustainable “problem” in Saskatchewan.
The ones dying of exposure and frost bite are the crazy ones. They are the ones dumped into the streets by “community based treatment policy” pioneered and championed by Liberals. Because its better for a schizophrenic to die in a bus shelter at -20C than to be “locked away” in a nice warm hospital where he gets medicine, food and a bed.
Meanwhile the Wynne regime cuts back on OHIP and doubles down on windmills. Reason being they personally benefit from the windmills, but every penny spent on doctors is a penny that could have gone to more windmills.
Ontario: getting the government we deserve, good and hard.
The more people that die off makes the eco-freaks/tree huggers/granola munchers happy their so cuaght up in Ehrliches over population poppycock they beleive everything their told or hear from the eco-wackos and news media scumballs
Wonder how long doctors will stay in Ontario when Mother Wynne keeps cutting their fees. She’s not listening to them either, they’d accept having their fees frozen but cutting them is harder to deal with. Doctors have expenses as well,offices and staff and not the least of which is paying the high cost of everything we need to survive in this freaking province.
Wait times for things like cataract surgery are ridiculous as well as everything else that isn’t an emergency. It takes an event to get attention and by then it has caused pain and suffering and even death. More ironic, her Health Minister is a doctor.
I prefer the 8¢ solution. It would probably cost less than $20K, there wouldn’t be any recurring costs and after six months no more homeless. Then zero fund the budgets at all levels of gov’t for the SJWs (AKA social workers for the homeless).
It is a tragedy when a person dies in those circumstances.
It is also a dilemma, for what to do?
Many times, perhaps mostly, those that politicians and social engineers classify as homeless, don’t want help. They want to be left alone. They want everybody else to butt out.
You may find it difficult to understand, though the politicians and the socialist engineers need these people.
They will endlessly end homelessness and make a good living along the way.
They will be presented as caring, warm and fuzzy. Who can be opposed to that?
You only have to look and listen to the current leaders of the NDP and Liberals how very much caring they are.
The fact that the homeless will always be around is really irrelevant and no concern of theirs as long as they can demagogue it to no end.
They serve political purpose.
It should not be so, though it is.

Individuals who vote for the Brokerage political parties, namely the public; Union Officials-(after all they are just looking after their own rice bowls;
Union peasants-we just want more than our share cause the “really rich” do all kinds of things to cheat;
Really Rich people-cause if we don’t spend our unnecessary money that broadcasts our influence how are we going to keep up the front that we have power;
Generally ignorant urban electorate- if I vote what so and so says then they won’t belittle me because they appear to be one of those mentioned above.
Truth is the usual liberal (distorted Political Name) voter is unread; unaware; and just wants the homeless to go somewhere else. If this means the homeless die, just don’t tell us unread and unaware Liberal Party voters about this GREAT tragedy caused by those people who do not agree with what the;
UNION Leaders of Public unions;
PEASANTS of Public unions;
REALLY RICH people.
Tell we unread; unaware; Generally ignorant urban electorate who vote Liberal corruption into power.
Apparently the premiers are meeting so mouthy Wynne has to whine about PM Harper not being there while none of the others seem to be concerned.
If she had any grasp of the mess she and her party have made she’d pull back and STFU about the PM not running to her beck and call. She’s going to keep this up until the Federal election, it’s her main agenda, to get the “Trudeau” Liberals elected to make a mess of the entire country.
Phantom, the “community based treatment policy” was adopted by every Provincial government of every political stripe at roughly the same time, early 1980’s. Our own Social Credit government here in B.C. pioneered the new policy,while in Manitoba the NDP did the same,and every government in Canada followed suit.
A real plus for the BC government was that closing the institutions freed up large parcels of very valuable real estate to sell to developers.They made millions to be pi**ed away into general revenue.
Provincial governments in all Provinces decided for fiscal reasons, to cut the huge costs of incarcerating the mentally ill,and the beauty of it all was that they could do this with relative impunity as the patients had no advocates with any authority.
The media saw what was occurring,and did a few articles, but dropped the story as it just wasn’t “sexy” enough to maintain public interest.
My point is; no political Party can claim the moral high ground on this, so it will continue to be swept under the carpet,and the acquiescent media will pursue “Rob Ford” or “Mike Duffy” stories,which sells papers and advertising.
This story has been on my radar since the 80’s,as I had a childhood friend of genius level IQ who ended up a paranoid schizophrenic living on the streets of Vancouver.
Politicians simply don’t give a damn,so don’t look to ANY of them to do what should be done; forced incarceration for the worst cases and treatment for their illness.
Costs too much.
Don Morris said: “Phantom, the “community based treatment policy” was adopted by every Provincial government of every political stripe at roughly the same time, early 1980’s.”
True Don. But only after the LIBERALS brought in socialized medicine, which of course threatened to bankrupt the provinces. Everybody knew that was coming, they did it anyway. Because “free” medical care is the guaranteed lock on power.
Furthermore it has always been the Left side of the spectrum pushing new laws that make it impossible to commit a person to mental health care, no matter how fantastically damaging and violent their behavior is. As mentioned in the article, you can’t commit a guy who’s standing in a bus shelter in a t-shirt and jeans when its -20C. Legally you have to wait until he falls down unconscious before you can rush him to hospital. Ask a fireman about that some time. You’ll hear things.
This is all extremely old news, its been 25 years now. Everyone knew it would be a disaster and people were going to die, it WAS a disaster and people did die, and its been a disaster continuously ever since with fatalities every single WEEK somewhere in Canada.
All to keep Liberals in power, in perpetuity. Free medical care is a Liberal value. Whenever you hear a Conservative say the words “free medical care” he’s actually a Liberal hiding in the other party. Plenty of those out there.
Truth Don, they don’t all do it. Liberals do it. They did it, we let them. We’re still letting them. Let’s not try to spread the blame around, lets assign it to the people it belongs to. Liberals and Liberal voters.
There are no homeless people in Cuba.
You’re right. The druggies and mental cases are either shot or locked up.
ah yes Phantom, the liberals AND a lot of church groups pushed for letting the insane run the asylum, but it all started about 45 year ago, I know, one of my family members was in and out of Queen street psychiatric hospital. I watch with discussed as this went on. Eventually they shut down empty buildings as it was too costly to staff and run them. Today the whole mental health thing is a joke.
Salas,
there’s a lot of things Cuba ain’t got.
You know you remind me of a fella I worked with. He spent 15 years working in Cuba at the behest of Fiddle and Co. He was no more informed about on goings than my brother who went there for vacations twice. And like you, this fellow worker was a lefty. Blindness comes in many forms.
Sure. Just like no one was unemployed in the USSR.
That’s because when they do a census population survey in Cuba, for each building they simply count the windows and multiply by ten.
“Blindness comes in many forms” Absolutely correct!
If the insane don’t run the asylum, then who? Would anybody in their ‘right’ mind aspire to doing that?
