  10. More than a hundred children in the US — and at least six in Canada — have developed a mysterious form of paralysis. Health officials are trying to determine if it could be related to Enterovirus D68 which has hospitalized hundreds of kids in North America.
    Experts call the condition acute flaccid myelitis because the onset is sudden (usually over one to three days) and because the limbs affected become markedly weak or flaccid. The paralysis can be full or partial. Some have lost the use of an arm, a leg, or more. Others have had paralysis of the breathing muscles and have required a ventilator to help them breathe. The kids range in age between one year and eighteen years of age. Imagine being a child or the parent of a child affected. Most of the kids have abnormal MRI scans of the spine showing inflammation of the grey matter of the spinal cord. That’s the place where the nerve cells that allow us to use our muscles reside.

    Because it’s not true?
    My daughter and her husband (one income family with three kids) are real upset with the $4000 per year money coming in because of Harper’s tax cuts and increasing of UCCB. They’re so upset they might vote Tory rather than NDP in 2015.
    Imagine, taxes not strangling young families with ridiculously unfair tax and transfer policies – giving back tax surpluses to working poor is well, bad for “an economy in peril.”
    BTW the15% of households figure is cherry picking BS.
