  1. Germany: Silencing the Critics of Munich’s Mega-Mosque
    http://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/4820/munich-mega-mosque
It’s going to be 65,000 square feet, fully funded by Qatar. The original name was Center for Islam in Europe-Munich, which presumably was considered too provocative. Now it’s Munich Forum for Islam. Yunno, a chat group.
The anti-mosque forces have DOUBLE the number of required signatures but the mayor is not fooled:

Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter, from Germany’s center-left Social Democratic Party (SPD), said that if the public referendum were permitted to proceed, it would give Stürzenberger’s anti-mosque campaign “a democratic veneer, which we want to avoid.”

And the new overlords at the monster mosque agree via a delightfully patronizing new Orwellian term:

“To all those Munich citizens who supported the referendum with their signatures, we would like to encourage you to familiarize yourself with the City Council resolution and its extensive legal justification. Then you will realize that the referendum is not a legitimate right conferred by a democratic institution, and that by stopping the vote from going ahead, the City Council is preventing your opinion from being abused by the anti-democratic goals of extremists.”

  3. Spain:

The Civil Guard launched a major raid on Monday morning against politicians, municipal workers and construction firms suspected of involvement in a bid-rigging scheme.

More context from another report, also in EL PAÍS

A suspected corrupt network of businessmen and politicians that was broken up by the Civil Guard on Monday apparently found a way to extract money from the public purse in the midst of the economic crisis: via energy-efficiency contracts.

Around 35 people were arrested in Monday’s raids, including high-profile figures such as former Madrid regional deputy Francisco Granados; the head of the León provincial authority, Marcos Martínez Barazón, and a number of mayors. They are suspected of participating in a scheme that saw politicians award €250 million of public contracts over the past two years in exchange for kickbacks from companies.

And one is a Veteran, the moment one signs for Active or Reserve Duty.

  5. Powerline Blog reports the Obama mis-Administration’s computers were hacked and taken down last week.
“Last week, we got information from a source in the Executive Office of the President that the EOP’s computer system had been down for, at that time, a week. Federal IT personnel evidently were having trouble identifying and fixing the problem that had brought the computer system down…”

  7. Australia bans travel from Ebola-hit countries; U.S. isolates troops
Australia’s ban on visas for citizens of Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea followed decisions by the U.S. military to quarantine soldiers returning from an Ebola response mission and some U.S. states to isolate aid workers.

There’s the usual whining, sniveling and complaints from the UN and African countries; tough s h i t, they had an opportunity to contain it back in March and other than Nigeria, they dithered. Too late now.

  9. “…a shocking shift…”

A new and massive poll of 2,029 18- to 29-year-olds from Harvard’s Institute of Politics just released found that of those who say they will “definitely be voting,” 51 percent want the GOP in charge, 47 percent favoring Democratic control.

The unexpected anti-Democratic swing prompted a Canadian Broadcasting Corporation reporter…to blurt out, “How did the Democrats and Obama screw this up?”

Rightwing prime minister Viktor Orbán is using his huge electoral majority to rewrite the rules, and not just for Hungary”
“Eva Acs, an agronomist who has run the thriving organic farm for 22 years, is at her wits’ end. “The state just took the farm away. We were absolutely punished and rubbed out. Then the private security firms came in and closed down the roads and blocked the tractors. The new owners destroyed all our plants and crops. Just to bankrupt us and hurt us.”
Since the 90s, Acs has overseen one of Europe’s biggest organic farms, earning international plaudits and coveted Swiss “bio-certificates” for pioneering work on a vast scale, covering 452 hectares (1,116 acres) of rolling fields, land that was leased from the Hungarian state. Last year, the government cancelled the contracts and sold all but nine hectares to oligarchs and businessmen, who ordered the destruction of the organic bounty.
Three weeks ago, they dealt the final blow, spraying the area with glyphosate weedkiller and instantly terminating the farm’s organic status.”

  11. Scar, from what I’ve seen of Elizabeth May’s reaction to CBC’s summary firing of Ghomeshi, her view was that he deserves a fair hearing. IMHO, a Toronto Star article in the absence of any legal/court record is not a fair hearing.
I am appalled at what Jian did, but more appalling is that justice is to be served by a Facebook trial.

  12. Hope E. May was equally vocal about Tom Flanagan deserving a fair hearing before being condemned by Twitter.I think May’s opinion on this does not add much and she should have kept her mouth shut. She did backtrack on her initial statement defending Gimeshi.9

  14. Far be it from me to disagree with the cabal here but as long as it didn’t involve kids, pets or unwilling adults, I personally don’t give a rat’s ass about what Q did in his bedroom. So far it is a “he said/she said” argument.
On a different note I see that the unity of Parliament is back to normal. Mulcare is now saying it wasn’t a terror attack. I guess he is smarter than the Queen’s Cowboys and didn’t bother to look at the evidence left by that son of a camel fornicator.
