Long time commentator, ET, used to wax eloquently on the necessity of developing the middle class as a solution to problems within the Islamic sphere. I tended to agree with her premises.
It would seem there is another prominent Conservative who used a different soap-box to espouse similar ideals.

Unfortunately I think that ET and PM Harper have fallen into a trap. Although PM Harper maybe playing politics knowing that most Canadians don’t want to spend the national treasure beating up a bunch of camel jockeys half a world away. Thus it makes him sound like a wise man while he avoids going to war in any meaningful way. The hard facts, however, despite ET’s regular spews is that the RELIGION of Islam is not driven by economics. It is a fundamental belief that must be spread and spread by violence if you hope to gain entrance to paradise. However in its basic tenets lies the keys to controlling it. It believes in Allah’s will and that will is fickle in the extreme. You can only know that will by the outcome. Thus if you are winning the war it is Allah’s will. If you are losing the war it is Allah’s will. Allah’s will is expressed by the strongest. Therefore you go in with massive force and kick the crap out of them. Then every time they raise their heads you kick the crap out of them again. Hopefully you will also be able to convert some of them away from this death cult but you have to control it with extreme prejudice or it will destroy you.
Joe,
Absolutely.
Also misunderstood by our self proclaimed intellectual betters, is that the “average” Arab/ third world resident, does not view the world through the same Liberal rose colored tint with strawberry fields forever.
Liberals tend to have a stereotypical group think way of projection, mentally transplanting their feelings and fantasies on every non-white conservative around the globe. “Therefore Arab men will not treat their wives as second class citizens, or hate gays if only we give them a McMansion and a couple of SUV’s. It’s all they really need.”
Yet, regardless of the millions they bring into our “free thinking” semi-socialist utopias, they continue to huddle in their no-go zones, gang rape and murder women, beat gays and generally rally against traditional western values.
Its middle class Jihadists flying from Calgary or London to fight with ISIS, not totalitarian repressed youth squallering in Calgary’s vast network of slums.
Go figure.
Right you are Knight 99.
Richard Landes of Boston U calls it liberal cognitive egocentrism.

Thanks Me No Dhimmi – that backs up my point precisely.
ET talked down to readers here, not at them.
ET was very eloquent BUT that is about the only positive thing that can be said about her.
9 times out of 10 either the idea she was presenting -as if it was her own – was actually someone else idea or she was plain wrong but could never admit it…and that is when she was not contradicting herself…
The way she simply ignored those who provided evidence she was wrong was beyond snotty.
A lot of people eventually got fed up with her ugly haughty pettiness.
For years she received mountains of compliments for ” her brilliant theory” that the problem with Obama is that he is a narcissist but that idea had been posted at other sites by other people YEARS before she ever began writing about it!
it was not her idea at all!!! yet many here were fooled ( and obviously still are ) and were in admiration of ET.
Many times I saw people post the link to the source of the idea ET was writing about, yet her fans refused to see the light.
ET was overrated and still is.
Many here got angry at her and they were right to, she could be annoying as hell.
A lot of interesting people stopped posting here because she was stealing their comments, then ignoring them or bellitling them.
Then she would behave as she was the victim
yet some of you are kissing her feet in admiration
(((shaking my head in disbelief)))
A nice wrapping does not make the content better, she wrote very well but the content was either wrong, full of contradictions or “borrowed” without revealing where she got the idea ( borderline plagiarism ).
