Instead, the dickhead voters in and around Toronto, who never have to look at them in their back yards, voted to ensure majority government for the worst crew ever to manage the province of Ontario, now in have not status and still spending.

    Expect much gnashing of teeth at the Guardian and from other supporters of cock-eyed green measures.The questions immediately arise though, as to whether this will have any noticeable impact on the actions of our political masters, or whether we have to wait until Australia fair continues to advance economically while the rest of us are forced into more penury in order change the weather and “save the planet”.

  10. Liz J, you have never seen construction as fast and efficient as what’s going on with these windmills. They are putting the things up faster than anything I’ve ever seen in my life.
    Roads better than the road in front of my house are cut into fields along Highway #3 near Cayuga in a couple of days. Foundations are poured in a couple more, then they put up the windmill in one day. Five have appeared across the river from my house since June, and many more down the road a bit.
    Compare and contrast the three years they’ve been fiddling with the Cayuga bridge, and the entire summer that they’ve had the center of town ripped open for pipe work.
    Oh, and no local contractors are doing any of this. Mississauga, Niagara, Hamilton. Nobody from Haldimand that I’ve seen.

  14. You’ve hit the key point, Scar. Most of the voters live in the cities, and mostly they support them. But it’s the rural folks who actually have to live with them. And just to drive home the point, the urban voters also had their government suspend the jurisdiction of municipalities over them.

    Actually the preferred whipping boy for fires of unknown origin is “careless use of smoking materials”.

  17. Simple arithmetic: assume price paid for kilowatt-hr is $0.10 Cdn. (OPG produces it from nuclear for about $0.03). You’d need to produce 5 million kWh every year to make $500,000. (but it’s pounds, so multiply by 1.8 = $0.18 Cdn price paid per kWh, or roughly 6 times what we pay for our nuclear).
    Here’s the calculation for a 1.5 MW turbine with a 25% capacity factor:
    1.5 MW × 365 days × 24 hours × 25% = 3,285 MWh = 3,285,000 kWh

    Its more like a small barn, Mike. You could park a school bus inside one easy. These things are -immense-. The hub is almost the size of a school bus. Blades are over 150 ft.
    And I bet, after ten years of ever decreasing maintenance, they are going to start going on fire all over the place. Because who wants to climb all the freakin’ way up there every day to clean it?
    Then the landowner foots the bill for removal. They don’t know that, but its true.

  19. Our local utility erected two wind turbines after unrelenting pressure from the greenies. One of them failed within a couple of years due to a poor design for a harsh cold climate. It was repaired at great expense, but never produced enough electricity to recoup the investment. The turbines now sit idle most of the time, on a hill visible from town, as a lasting monument to greenwashed stupidity.
    They wisely abandoned the wind power program, and invested in LNG powered generators for back-up power when hydro wasn’t enough.
