Just my guess, but cancer kills a higher percentage of people today because back in 1900 people died earlier in their lives from the other diseases.
Cancer, expectationally prostrate, is much more prevalent in the older folks.

A generation ago, I or anyone else, would have never clicked on the wrong spell-check correction.
That does not mean that more people spell ‘especiallly’ wrong today than they did a century ago.
I rest my case.

I enjoy telling younger people at work that the greatest inventions since 1900 have been electricity (cheap energy) without which you can not use the internet; clean drinking water and modern sanitation (no nasty deaths from dirty water!); good roads and modern dentistry (especially true as you age – more important to have a good “bite” than white teeth, easier to chew your food). They still think the Internet is the best invention. They look on in amazement when I describe working on the long term ward at the U of A hospital in 1968, and 2 people were still in Iron Lungs from the polio epidemic 10-15 years previously. People in North America are so insulated from the harsh realities of life.

That sort of thing was covered in this very interesting (but gross!) documentary series, Big Momma.

Wally, a century ago, people could actually spell! Damned near any word in common use could be spelled by the average grade six student.
Today, if you can wade through the english as she is writ, you might be able to make out the message.
People are living way longer than they should,thus they develop cancer which kills them off and everyone says,” isn’t it awful how common cancer is today”.
It would be decent, not to mention patriotic,if everyone was to go to meet his or her Maker at age 70, thus saving the health care system a massive amount of money,and the Canada Pension Plan even more.

Bottom line is: you will die from something. That’s a 100% certainty. So, choose your poison, so to speak.

Pay attention newbie, it’s the chemicals and contaminants in processed food that causes cancer; it’s been increasing with their use since the 50s.
