Wife Of! Peter MacKay Sexist? Our National Broadcaster?

This morning CBC News Network is atwitter to the max over the federal justice minister’s Mother’s and Father’s Day e-mails to departmental staff:

Peter MacKay lauds moms for changing diapers, dads for moulding minds in holiday messages
Mother’s and Father’s Day emails from justice minister praise mothers as caregivers, fathers as role models

Meanwhile the scroll on the bottom of the screen has this news item:

Jim Flaherty’s widow set to announce bid to lead Ont. PCs

And who might that be? Does the woman (one must assume that is the gender, still these days…) have a, gasp, name?

  1. “And who might that be? Does the woman (one must assume that is the gender, still these days…) have a, gasp, name?”
Yes, of course she has a name, and that would be Mrs. Jim Flaherty. 😉

  2. MacKay isn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer, but this is a full-blown witch hunt now. The Mothers’ Day statement was not, on its face, objectionable. The Fathers’ Day statement was not, on its face, objectionable. If A is not objectionable, and B is not objectionable, does it not logically follow that A combined with B cannot be objectionable?
Unless you’re XOR’ing the damned things I suppose. I didn’t know Political Science drew from Computer Science.
More stupid things fall out of Shiny Pony’s mouth in a day than the Conservatives can generate in at least a month, but of course our overlords, er, media, won’t engage in this behaviour with him.
Bah. After Pony is sworn in as PM, with CTV & CBC cheering him every step of the way, I’m probably going to get passed-out drunk and see if I can stay that way for four years…

  3. He’s catching hell for a gratuitous comment about a Hallmark Holiday. New low for the CBC. MacKay makes a feel-good comment and he might as well have shot a trans-sexual lesbian in the back of the head on the street.

  4. Soooooo…. (potentially) all three party leaders in Ontario may be women? Isn’t that rather an old girls type of sexism?
I think we need a government program.

  5. There you go!
Now,if he’d banned Mother’s Day and Father’s Day because they don’t take the feelings of the transgendered into account, the Left would be SO confused they’d choke on their latte’s!

  6. Yes, but its only sexist, racist, misogynistic , when the low brow Canadian voters do it.
When the enlightened ones of CBC sneer at and demean women, they do so in the most politically correct and “supportive” way.
Sarc of course, soonest CBC goes under the better.
CBC another reason I restrict my taxable earnings.

  7. I don’t think anyone is taking the criticism of the Mother’s Day everyone-mail seriously. For one thing it’s patronizing to women– the article –suggesting women are somehow less important because they change diapers. (So what if most of them do.) MacKay was right and respectful to recognize their dual role, but at the CBC men’s roles are somehow more important. I don’t know if I am doing a good job of explaining my response to this, but there is a subtle way in which the complaint expressed in the article insults women, many of whom work so hard at providing care for their families. The CBC trivialuzes this role.

  8. That’s coming — the left is against any sort of gender identity these days. There is a deliberate attempt to break down traditional social norms. The sexual political agenda has become very sinister.

  9. Take down the CBC…please include the CRTC!
    They don’t have the balls.
    Oh…sorry…courage.

  10. This doesn’t surprise me. Remember the town hall campaign stop that Harper made some years ago, where he said that parents are the best people to raise their kids? Agitators at the back of the hall loudly BOO’ed. Some people would deny biology, they’re so stunned.

  11. The progressives won’t be happy until mankind is a genderless organism that reproduces symbiotically or by government sanctioned invitro.
No gender may exist as someone’s feeling could get hurt.q6

  12. If MacKay had reversed those e-mails, he would have been accused of being a phony. Most women with children do do two jobs, and it is generous to acknowledge that. I think the easy solution here is to have no such greetings in the workplace. That would have to include no “congratulations” on your “Pride” week (or is it two months now? Really, our society is becoming less and less civil.

  13. Yeah thanks, I didn’t think Pete was married to the Ontario Car-Parts Heiress.
I would have noticed, I offered a funny.

  14. Read the letters! They were addressed to ”Everyone,” that means both Moms and Dads. He did not specifically target men or women. He meant parents in general.
The witch hunt will end when the CBC ends!

  15. Missed that-thanks for the funny.
Oh well, at least it gave me an opportunity to post a link to that pathetically patronizing open letter.
