Remember when Ontario was the economic engine of Canada not a Have Not Province?
’nuff said.
What can you say except that people get the government they deserve.
Has Hudak resigned yet?
I did for tell this months ago. I live right in the heart of Toronto and I don’t know anyone who thinks conservative is their party. It’s the media brainwashing that does it. Typical politics conversation goes exactly like this; yes the liberals are bad but I can’t stand Harper. I’ll ask what about Harper you can’t stand. Everything, his policies. What policies. All of them. He’s just awful as a prime minister and he has made our country look awful in the world. You just can’t get through to anyone here and it has to be the media.
Time to pack my bags and head west. The brainwashed masses will never learn here in Ontario.
Proof positive that Toronto is full of innumerate morons. I will be retiring about the same time as the province declares bankruptcy so I’m heading south or west.
Matt Gurney in the National Pest makes the case that Wynne and Sousa are stuck implementing an austerity program whether they like it or not. (I assume they will, in fact, like it — they’ve stayed in power, which is all Libranos ever care about anyway.) I suspect the bond market will give them The Talk in pretty short order. Unlike sovereign countries, provinces have no currency, so no ability to inflate away their debt.
Someone should start a pool on when the downgrade will hit. Moody’s has been more vocal, so there might be some interesting side action over whether S&P or DBRS beats them to the punch. DBRS last rated Ontario debt in May of last year at AA (low) and S&P has the province on a negative watch. As I recall, in the 80s Ontario was the only subnational government to be AAA.
Predictions are hard, especially about the future (credit, Mr. Berra). But expect Wynne to start whining for bailout money from Ottawa (i.e. from Canadian taxpayers, rather than her own electors) soonish.
Information architect, content management, technical documentation specialist looking to relocate West. Please ping me and let’s talk.
Help! This ship’s sinking fast! No lifeboats. Anyone out there care to throw me a life preserver?
Looks like I’m not alone in this exodus brewing that’ll make Moses’ little scamp a nature hike by comparison. Computer programmer/analyst with some specialisation in networking available. I will pay all transportation expenses for relocation. Don’t care where I wind up, as long as I am out of this hell-hole!
This province is corrupt. Not just the politicians, but also the unions, the cops, the legal system… I wouldn’t be surprised if Elections (Liberal) Ontario are in on it too.
The media is to blame for not only letting this go on, but in fact, they’re the ones pushing this agenda forward.
We are so-o-o-o-o-ooooo screwed!!!
Hudak simply did not make the friends he should have. it’s time for Conservatives to start thinking 5 years down the road. They have to realize the politics of alienation simply does not work. It makes perfect sense to be fiscally responsible, reduce taxes and create jobs but you have to present it in a manner that doesn’t scare brain-dead liberal-socialists.
I have the good fortune to be able to base my business anywhere in Canada. I will be leaving Ontario and going to British Columbia. They occasionally have fits of marxist government as well, but at least the skiing is good. So long and thanks for all the fish.
Democracy has spoken and it wants free stuff.
Corruption? Doesn’t matter. Majority.
Vote buying? Majority.
Segregated cafeteria? Majority.
If you truly want change, go Galt. Stop paying for this sh*t. Quit your job, live on the minimum and siphon off what you can. It will never change so long as there’s (fake) money to pay for it. If you’re still a net tax*payer*, you’re a sucker in any province other than SK or AB in this country. Time for triage: this patient is bleeding out, doctor, and there’s nothing you can do about it.
People have truly ceased caring about anything other than socialism and we should just let them have whatever they want.
Want bathrooms in schools for the narcissist’s transgendered 4 year old kid? Sure.
Want food stamps for anyone living in the 416/905? Go ahead.
How about going to only wind and solar power? Fine by me.
The only cure for socialism is *implemented* socialism.
I don’t care. I’m not going anywhere, the sonsabitches will have to drag me out. I’ve lived through worse, I was here for Bob Rae.
Come and get me your fairies.
Phantom, this will be (is ALREADY) worse than Rae.
I’m trying to remember back to a time when a campaign featuring austerity and book balancing has ever worked with an electorate. Nope drawing a blank. Combine that with wonky promises; 1 million new jobs, 100,000 civil service jobs shelved and resigning if books not balanced were promises that were just not believable. Unfortunately for Ontario, a poorly thought out platform by Hudak and his advisors is responsible for this mess. Whatever happened to simply promising to better manage the province’s finances?
The Rae days will look like a walk in the park compared to what lies ahead for Ontariowe. Back then we had a decent credit rating unlike today. Now, our /capita debt is greater than that of California’s which is the worst of all US states. Now that’s leadership.
A great immovable wall lies ahead
Yup, like Ezra said… good and hard.
I work in Quebec, live in Ontario…. thinking of moving here permanently.
Stuck on stupid is the only thought that comes to mind.
Timmy lost because he refused to go negative. How many times do these idiot campaign managers have to lose before they get their damn heads out of their asses.
Hudak lost X2
That loser John Tory lost
Harper lost in 2004
Eves lost in 2003
And Romney lost because he didn’t attack enough.
Acting nice will get you a nice knife in your back by your party after you blow another election.
Sad and pathetic but that is the way it is.
WInston Churchill was right – “the best argument against democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter.”
I am now seriously afraid that we will never get our province back. Four more years now of the Liberals paying off unions who will in turn pay off the Liberals, only they’ll now be even larger and stronger by 2018. Unions like the police union and journalists union have now entered the election campaigns backing their Liberal masters, so that will be the new norm. Taxes will rise, and new ones will sprout, to pay for all of the Liberals wasteful spending and energy costs will continue to skyrocket to pay for useless green energy programs. Factories and businesses will continue to close their doors and/or move elsewhere, except for the few that are bribed by the Liberals to stay or set up shop here.
God knows what our debt will be four years from now… any guesses?
Well, I know a lot of people consider B.C. to stand for “British California.” Shall we just start referring to Ontario as “Califtario” now? “Onfornia”? Any others?
Well your province proves my theory that 70 percent of the people that vote are morons, for years and years you and Quebec gave us Turdo/Cretien and that other Power boy Mulroney, we in the west kept saying why, when finally enough of you easterners, most good some bad, moved west we started to shift the sentiments and finallly elected a Prime Minister to be proud of but it took a long time. Now you vote in that bunch of duds again just proves the theory, a lot of Ontario people listen to the drivel of the Toronto Star and CBC and believe it, they are to stupid to look at the results of those policies these media whores champion before they cast a vote for failure. I feel sorry for you good ones there.
I can’t remember being so disconsolate for so long. Even when you think things might finally have turned a corner, and change is coming, as I did just a few short weeks ago, fate rears its ugly head and sucker punches you in yours.
It seemed like a perfect storm had converged that would finally let us crest on a giant wave, and ride triumphantly into shore. We would, of course, be magnanimous in victory, but victors we shall be! And then, so quickly, the hope faded, the light went out, and I and so many others are left wondering what to do. It’s been over twenty years since I had the first taste of it, and I wanted more, but it’s not to be.
1-5 in their last six, and can’t get out of the first inning without giving up a 2-run lead. Oh, you’re talking about the election, and not the Jays? nevermind
PS
We are f***ed in Ontario. The only hope I have left is Ontario typically votes one way provincially and another federally, so maybe Wynne is the price we pay for sparing Canada the shiny pony.
I live in Ottawa right now and think I might cross over to Quebec – man, who would’ve thought that the Quebec government would be relative models of fiscal rectitude compared to Ontario?
I predict an HST raise pretty quick.
Oh, and the OPP will find no wrong-doing over the gas plants.
Must be a committee somewhere for the establishment of the Province of Toronto….can we all sign that petition…now!
I didn’t quit my job, I was laid off and I’m still paying for this sh!t
Perhaps now, finally, the opc party can be torn down and rebuilt using the cpc, sask party and Wildrose constitutional model. The elites within the party need to be disenfranchised and the grassroots finally be allowed to call the shots and revive the policy and organization elements.
We all know that Ontario will be far worse off economically four years from now under the far left liberals – next election should result in a huge swing to the conservatives if the party is ready.
“You have put your trust in us and we will not let you down”.
Wynne’s comedy sketch last night.
I live in Cambridge and work in the health care field. Every time I turned on the radio, I was bombarded by advertisements by numerous parties, orgs, and unions all saying the same thing. Tim Hudak cutting 100,000 jobs…less nurses, less teachers, less firefighters. Tax cuts for his wealthy friends. TV, same thing. People I work with saying “we’re all going to lose our jobs if he gets in blah blah blah”. And there was nothing countering these claims. The PC party ads were useless. The Liberals, the unions, and their complicit media pushed a completely false narrative and made this election a fear of Hudak story. This election should have been about colossal mismanagement of funds, willful destruction of evidence, and greed. Remember, when McLiar took office, he cancelled the legislation that imposed financial penalties on the MPPs for running consecutive deficits, and then proceeded to run massive deficits. They then cost the province over a BILLION dollars to be wasted in order to win an election. And then they intentionally destroyed evidence. The person paid to destroy the evidence worked for Wynne! Seriously, with all of these facts, how do you lose an election? Toronto needs to be separated from the rest of the province’s funds, that is the only way to solve Ontario’s problems. Let the 416 go the way of Detroit.
Kevin;
If you are disconsolate now what state will you be in next spring? PMSH might be a better campaigner than Hudak but I expect a minority government of either CPC
or the Ontario led Liebels of Turdeau younger. I guess from last night’s results I should reconsider and expect a Liebel federal majority.
The Harper CPC are fools if they do not realize that their effort of talking to
citizens is working. The vast majority of voters do not care about the business of the nation. It used to be that people took pride in their personal conduct and in their country much of that is gone. We are in a ‘What is in it for me society’.
Let’s see how happy libman is in four years, after his electricity rates have tripled, his provincial taxes skyrocket, and all sorts of new fees and surcharges (but not ‘taxes’) are added on to every bill.
The Conservative candidate in my riding came 3rd after many considered her the front runner. There has to be many civil servants in my neighborhood who feared for their place at the trough. The union commercials I thought were way over the top and I expected their campaign to back-fire, never underestimate the low information voter I suppose. With every public servant and those stupid enough to listen to them repeating the union’s rhetoric, the PC’s never did have any chance of forming a majority. A PC minority was going to be un-workable, and now seemingly a majority never was a possibility. Hudak’s unlikeable persona played a smaller part but I’m not blaming him. He has to go mind you but a PC majority was only a dream.
In a way, a Lib majority is better than the Lib/NDP coalition we had. Our only hope is for the bond rating agencies to quickly announce another downgrade. This would allow the Libs to withdraw their big spending budget and table a new one slightly more affordable and less damaging, they don’t need NDP support.
The results were again, shocking but after the Lib’s got re-elected the 1st time, is anyone really surprised?
Come west young conservatives, come west!
We nefd ya, and would appreciate ya!
If ever there was a case for Jean Chretien’s election reform eliminating third party advertizing Ontario just made it. On the bright side maybe Ontario’s leap into socialism will help with the labour shortage out west what with the Temporary Foreign Worker program on hiatus and all we can use people who want to work for a living. The only problem is I don’t know if Ontarians have sufficient education.
Never happen, more con propaganda. Voters rejected your message again, now you cry in your milk about this electoral loss, pining for the west. Sore losers much?
Wah wah, transfer payments, wah wah. Before Alberta was a have-not province, which province was it that ponied up for you? Oh that’s rigggghttttt – it was ONTARIO!!!!
Go then, get lost, crawl west and take your fellow knuckledraggers with you. You won’t be missed. Neither will you be when the federal elections happen in 2015.
I’m with Pete and have long thought the “Golden Horse Shoe” …. everything below #7 should be cut loose and set adrift. Form a new province north of that line.
The Toronto calculation is the practice of passing their costs off to other taxpayers.
The city has robbed the Province for years.
Toronto folk do not care that the Province is broke, they believe they can continue by stealing from the rest of Canada.
Why not? It worked for Quebec.Perhaps now we can cut them off, Equalization is dead.
Whether it dies now or in 4 years, it is over.
There are not enough other people willing to let their money be stolen.
How about a hostage exchange, the west will accept those who believe in private wealth and personal responsibility, the believers in wealth by stealing other peoples work can be driven east.
All we need now is Just-In and friends elected and Western Separation is a done deal.
Course I am sure most of rural Ontario wants to separate from Toronto.
How does civil society survive the takers voting themselves goodies?
Institutional theft is the Ontario norm, voters have consistently rewarded liars , thieves and criminal fools.
Kleptocracy rules.
But such a society will collapse, simply because the makers stop making.
No reward? No respect? Fine make it yourself.
It won’t take 4 years…she will move on this budget in 20 days…
Revealing corruption is what a Lib calls propaganda. No surprise.
Bingo, then viva la seperation!
First we need to kick the existing eastern bums that have squatted on western soil. Ralf Klien did a good job starting it and now we need someone to finish it.
Getting rid of the Liberal witch Redfraud was a good start to the healing process.
Grok the difficulty I have with your comment about lib man is he will still be a Liberal Party insider and will benefit disproportionately to the uninformed voters who voted Liberal. Did I say uninformed? I mean the dead from their rectum both ways!
How can someone believe a person who clearly states the government which she is, and has been, a guiding member is corrupt and she must apologize for this?
How can anyone, whether or not their rice bowl is filled by this self-confessed corrupt government, believe the negative advertisements?
How can anyone who has children and especially grandchildren living in Ontario perpetuate the insider’s benefit of being part and parcel of the ongoing Liberal Party of Quebec/Ontario/British Columbia/Canada, which insider’s benefit will be paid for by their children/grandchildren?
Although my inclination is to move from Ontario I am now well into my eighth decade and won’t be paying for the fellow down the road who has developed an insider position too long. Our oldest son now manages/owns the family business and will probably consider the offers from across the border(s) as they continue to come forward.
My wife and I, through major commitment of time and risk of assets, are comfortably able to assist our disabled daughter. My wife loves her garden, she has developed over the decades and I have the time and inclination to express my opinions on the web. That’s what old men around the world do, isn’t it?
So we will continue to spend our summers in Ontario except when travelling; support a tax specialist’s family, so we only pay the taxes we must and watch the ongoing slide into socialist decrepitude. Cheers;
As a wise old man once said …
“I told you democracy wouldn’t work!”
— Homer Simpson
From a completely selfish perspective, this will likely be good for AB and SK. More disillusioned conservative wealth creators will move west. By the time the next federal election is called, the benefits of good fiscal management will be very obvious and the Conservatives will be more likely to get another majority. I don’t see too much downside in my little world.
The people voted for bread, circuses, and corruption. The media and the educational system has done its job of corrupting the people well.
Ontario is now a banana republic run by government worker unions.
Now we’ll learn how much libman stole through Ornge.
The Black Market economy is thriving and growing here in Ontario. Abandon the fairy tale kingdom of employment equity hires, union lard engines, and Global Warming logic for the exciting world of ability driven earning. I did it. I work from home and laugh at traffic reports. The Black Market is out there, all you need to do is find your piece of the pie. People working in the Black Market do not talk about it to people they do not know, kinda like conservative minded people have learnt not to talk about their political beliefs, morality, religion, or values. Come on in, the cash flow is fine.
Remember when Ontario was the economic engine of Canada not a Have Not Province?

“Timmy lost because he refused to go negative.”
He also lost because he committed himself to firm job creation figures that could easily be picked apart, and gave the unions all the ammo they needed by committing to public service job reduction figures that could be spun as firing “essential personnel”. The Tories will continue to lose if they continue to elect politically tone-deaf wonks as their leaders – to paraphrase an old clichΓ© about women in the workplace, when the electorate have a welfare mentality, conservatives have to campaign twice as well to be seen as electable.

So we will continue to spend our summers in Ontario except when travelling; support a tax specialist’s family, so we only pay the taxes we must and watch the ongoing slide into socialist decrepitude. Cheers;
Meet the new Premier, same as the old Premier.
