This Is A Stickup!

Translation: We want a bigger bribe.

“Sometimes when that happens you’re going to hit the ground, and that ground is our First Nations. Because regardless of any legislative changes, regardless of their processes, we still have our rights — they’re still intact,” Mercredi said.

“What they’re doing is weakening their own processes to develop the resources, which does not work in their favour if a (legal) challenge comes from a nation. They can still hold the key. That’s what people have to remember.”

  1. I laugh at the First Welfare Nation deadbeats and lay-abouts thinking they are big swinging dicks at negotiating.
Time to tell the feather indians to get a stinkin’ job and stop using Soprano tactics to shake down Canada.
If the whiney indians put half the effort into clean water that they do into whining about their lot in life, their drinking water problems would be ancient history.

  2. They love the sound of their own voice.
I’ve seen and heard them ramble on for 30 minutes about god knows what and I’d bet he didn’t know either.
When the opening line is “Did you have a Tim Hortons coffee this morning? You’re welcome…because it was built on our land”.
Get comfortable…it’ll be a long one.

  3. If you dig back far enough into Chief Mercredi’s family tree you’ll find an Irish military man named Daniel McCarthy who wouldn’t live under a protestant English king so fled to France in the 1690’s and Gallicized his name to de McCarty. His son Jean-Baptiste de McCarty travelled to Quebec (New France) as as a Frenchman around 1730, and the name evolved into Mercredi. I just thought that was interesting.

  4. Have the Treaty 8 Tribals read the agreement their ancestors signed way back in 1899?

“AND WHEREAS, the said Commissioners have proceeded to negotiate a treaty with the Cree, Beaver, Chipewyan and other Indians, inhabiting the district hereinafter defined and described, and the same has been agreed upon and concluded by the respective bands at the dates mentioned hereunder, the said Indians DO HEREBY CEDE, RELEASE, SURRENDER AND YIELD UP to the Government of the Dominion of Canada, for Her Majesty the Queen and Her successors for ever, all their rights, titles and privileges whatsoever, to the lands included within the following limits, that is to say:”

or are they just trying to live up to the stereotype of “indian giver”?
