It’s an artifact of the mentality of the current occupants of the White House.
They don’t give a DAMN about those girls. What they care about is their image. So rather than doing something about it, they – as did the Pharisees of old – go into public and loudly pray and wail.
The world sees them as compassionate, caring people, and they don’t have to do anything about it. Mission accomplished.

I noticed that the usual culprits – this time Amnesty International – are condemning the Nigerian Army for failing to act.
You can be very sure that if or when the Nigerian Army does act to rescue those girls, Amnesty International will probably quickly condemn it for brutality, collateral deaths, disproportionate force, human rights abuses, etc., etc.
