When in Rome …
Be interesting to see how Rome’s leftists are going to shift blame to Bush and the GOP on this debacle.
Or maybe it’s the weather’s fault.
It’d be more helpful if these stories of cities / states in some cases? mentioned in their tale of woe what has led them to such fiscal illness.
Sandy Springs, Georgia doesn’t seem to be going broke. Do they have garbage pick up? yes. Do they have police? yes. Are the streets paved? yes. Do they have running water? yes. I doubt they give millions of free needles to the local junkies though.
So what don’t they have? well they don’t seem to be bleeding billions to retired public service unions. I’m not suggesting municipalities simply outsource everything, well, not all at once… but those pension debts are mentioned in every tale of fiscal woe across the nation (s). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8qFvo2qJOU
Some time ago, this video was posted here at SDA. Perhaps every april 30 (april 15 in the USA) it should be re-posted…
an now Justin Trudeau has named his new spawn Hadrian. coincidence !
though I think when Rome’s million population fell to 40000 in and around 1300, it might have been bankrupt as well.
They didn’t learn about mass illigal immigration the first time around.
BLAME THE WEATHER!
works for CPR/CNR when it comes to moving grain, not so much for; oil/lpg/potash/autos/containers/coal/sulphur/wood/steel/pipe/
Wait for it.
The Devil made me do it.
The parasites of Rome, will insist that the failure of their policies, were all caused by that antichrist, the last conservative of Rome..
Oh wait, thats Obummer.
Rome is one of the places I would like to visit again so imminent bankruptcy is not good news. The article linked doesn’t really get into the specifics of why Rome is in such bad economic shape but I’d bet this has something to do with it: Transparency International said 87 percent of Italians regarded corruption as one of the country’s most serious problems and blamed political parties.
Looks like “la dolce vita” is over for a while. This should start a interesting chain reaction with other countries that are also on the brink. Just knowing that Germany has shut off the taps leaves the EU to fend for itself with empty pockets. The “PIIGS” have emptied the trough and France is about to join them. The joy of socialism is always good for entertainment when they find out they are out of other peoples money. Just like playing Monopoly. Game’s over…..Germany won. At least or now. Much like China playing Monopoly with the rest of the free world.
Lefty politicians and their spending habits are as destructive as Visigoths and Vandals.
The mayor is aping Kathleen Wynne in Ontario “It’s the mean conservatives fault for not giving us more money that’s to blame, not our spending habits.”
I commented on CBC that seeings how Trudeau has expressed his admiration for China and Cuba that I was surprised they didn’t name the child Mao or Fidel. Only took them about 60 seconds before the comment was disabled. They got some pretty thin-skinned people there at Canada’s National Broadcaster. I am shocked!

Apparently, it’s almost impossible to fire an employee in Italy, public or private.
That might have something to do with the youth unemployment rate – an astounding 42%.
That can’t be good for government revenue. http://goo.gl/hcqaPP
I think Rome went broke a few other times, like when it was sacked by the barbarians and by the troops of the Holy Roman Empire in the 1500s. But maybe they were still able to pay the garbagemen those times.
