Tony Blair’s Britain

Where the foxes caper unmolested, the government packs your school lunch, and meet the lucky winners of a new marine habitat!

Devastating evidence has now come to light not just that the floods covering 65 square miles of the Somerset Levels could have been prevented, but that they were deliberately engineered by Labour ministers in 2009, regardless of the property and human rights of the thousands of people whose homes and livelihoods would be affected. Furthermore, that wildly misleading Met Office forecast in November led the Environment Agency to take a step that has made the flooding infinitely more disastrous than it need have been.
The “smoking guns” begin with a policy decision announced in 2005 by Labour’s “floods minister” Elliot Morley, later to be jailed for fraudulently claiming more than £30,000 on his MP’s expenses. Under the heading “Saving wetland habitats: more money for key sites”, Morley directed that, to comply with the EU’s habitats directive and a part-EU-funded study involving the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, the WWF and the Environment Agency, flooding in Somerset should be artificially promoted, because “wildlife will benefit from increased water levels”. The 13 local drainage boards, responsible for keeping the Levels properly managed, were all to be co-opted into implementing this policy.

  1. There should be an uprising in Somerset about this – they got plenty o’ pitch forks in them there parts, aaarrrggh!
Government behaving criminally, that is deliberately destroying property and lives – deliberately! Criminal!

  2. What’s so galling about the government pandering to the eco-loons is that the “green solution” would make the situation even worse by continuing with more of the same.

  3. Quite right, Tooner, they don’t need another idealist failure. They need an Oliver Cromwell. His sheer fury at their corruption in his speech to the Long Parliament rings through even today, and its one of the best speeches ever given in the English language. And fittingly like all the best speeches, it’s short.
Dissolution of the Long Parliament by Oliver Cromwell given to the House of Commons, 20 April 1653
“It is high time for me to put an end to your sitting in this place, which you have dishonored by your contempt of all virtue, and defiled by your practice of every vice; ye are a factious crew, and enemies to all good government; ye are a pack of mercenary wretches, and would like Esau sell your country for a mess of pottage, and like Judas betray your God for a few pieces of money.
Is there a single virtue now remaining amongst you? Is there one vice you do not possess? Ye have no more religion than my horse; gold is your God; which of you have not barter’d your conscience for bribes? Is there a man amongst you that has the least care for the good of the Commonwealth?
Ye sordid prostitutes have you not defil’d this sacred place, and turn’d the Lord’s temple into a den of thieves, by your immoral principles and wicked practices? Ye are grown intolerably odious to the whole nation; you were deputed here by the people to get grievances redress’d, are yourselves gone! So! Take away that shining bauble there, and lock up the doors.
In the name of God, go!”

  4. This flooding sounds like the floods the Americans caused out west a couple years ago by saving up water in the reservoirs. Same reason too, Greenies in control of the dams.
Government has become arrogant in the West. Short memories. Perhaps Kiev and Venezuela will clue them, but I think the Tree of Liberty will need watering again.
Thieves and tyrants being notoriously thick witted in their greed, they always bite off more than they can chew.

  5. Yet these same people put up bird blenders as energy replacements to plants that do nothing to the wild life. Mass Insanity.

  6. When I briefly watched the BBC News they were on overdrive trying to blame the flooding on the Artic vortex complete with a startling graphic of the polar icecap instantly melting causing it.

  7. Sounds like criminal malfeasance by the minister and these boards.
There should be charges. People need to go to prison for this.

  8. The “Environment Agency” in the U.K. should talk to the “EPA” in California. http://naturalresources.house.gov/issues/issue/?IssueID=5921.
Maybe between them they can figure it out. I put the agencies in quotes because once again we have the Orwellian Doublespeak where the “Environmental Protection Agency” actually destroys the environment and all in it (unless you are a smelt), and I assume the UK “Environment Agency” is supposed to preserve the environment, not try to replicate Atlantis.
