  5. Totten’s articles on Cuba are certainly at odds with the National Post article yesterday,in which a former Torontonian describes life in Cuba.
    Unfortunately,I couldn’t find the link today.
    Someone in the comments called him a commie shill, but the comments were closed so I never had a chance to agree.

    two things would have happened.
    Castro would have had him killed,
    or Che would have killed Castro.
    Cuba was not big enough for those two bloated bastards.
    After Che left Cuba he became a great communist martyr,
    but would have never been allowed to return alive.
    Interesting that the Cockroach was never nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize?

  11. I read ‘ The Longest Romance’. I found it tough read, poorly written in a bombastic style but that didn’t detract from the message. Why Che continues to be idolized by the left is truly confounding. An out and out murderer in the communist tradition.
    The piece in the Nat Post was pretty light. Maybe that is to be expected as the writer is living in Cuba. Mr. Castro likes to detain and imprison journalists.
    Canadian for the most part choses to ignore the reality of Cuba. We drank the kool aid Trudeau offered – believing naively that the U.S. embargo was some sort of David vs Goliath struggle. We like an under dog story.
    Canadian business has also benefitted from this relationship often profiting from partnership with Castro. Isn’t a certain former Montreal Canadien defenseman famous for his spin-a-rama a big mover and shaker in Cuba?

  14. This is why I refuse to vacation in Cuba. Regret that it has become a popular destination for so many Canadians, including my brother and sister-in-law. They rationalize it based upon tipping people more money in one transaction than they make in a month, i.e. they’re helping the common people. Can’t seem to grasp (or maybe just not prepared to embrace) the concept of “tough love”. To me, the way to help the average Cuban is through making their lives worse enough, in the short term, that they finally see that the future is better to die for as a new freedom in Cuba, than to drown trying to get to a new freedom in Florida. (Notice no one from Florida ever drowns trying to get to Cuba?).

  15. I’ve run across a couple of these naïve, impressionable kids wearing the iconic t-shirts – most recently in a SuperStore. I try to engage them in conversation but really, they just don’t want to know and you can just see them thinking “as*^ole” as I impinge on their revolutionary fantasy.
    Still, it’s fun trying to impose a guilty twinge in their psyche.

  16. Just tell’em that when real commies like Che take over, the first thing they do after the revolution is to line people like those who wear Che t-shirts up against a wall and shoot them just to consolidate the power.
    Walking around with a non-approved political message on one’s clothing is a ‘shoot-me-now-before-I-revolt’ signal to totalitarian rulers.
