  1. So fully masked policemen are the next “progressive step”?
Tiny indecipherable badges/badge numbers, circular self investigation, forward…

  2. The headscarf is not a muslim religious requirement, it is an Arabic cultural thing. A symbol of men’s supremacy over women. However, that lunacy extends from muslim women to non-muslims as well.
Remember when David Menzies was attacked by a muslim woman for taking pictures? Quite simply she treated a non-muslim as she is treated by muslim men. It is a hierarchy of oppression.
Now imagine that woman with a badge resolving a dispute between the muslim community and an infidel.

  3. Damn!
This is a huge officer safety issue!
Something for a shitrat to grab onto and use to subdue the officer.
    Not good.
    Not good at all
    een

  4. I like the “we don’t care what’s on your head” ad from an Ontario hospital.
They are probably completely aware that some Muslim medical works in the U.K. refuse to wash their hands with anti-bacterial gels, refuse to bare their arms to scrub up and prevent disease.
On the other hand, given the amount of C Difficile and other bugs going around Ontario hospitals, perhaps administrators have given up any pretenses of cleanliness.

  5. Well, if that Arabic cultural item is allowed, then I’m sure I’ll be allowed to carry my cultural Beretta 92FS wherever I want, hmmm?

  6. ITT, people who don’t know what a hijab is.
Can you still call a cop wearing a hijab a ‘pig’?
    Always.

  7. I see why commenters here slam you, your assumptions are as erroneous as your reading comprehension.

  8. These things happen because for the liberals that are in power…history starts every morning!

  9. While many don’t agree with Quebec’s government, it is, on balance of this right on this issue.
There are, as is usually the case, unintended consequence.
In this case, those that don’t agree should suck it up.
Office of any kind has certain own rules.
On the other hand, in civil life, anybody can wear what ever they desire.
Sorry about misspelled and gibberish, writing on blackberry tablet, some times if you do that watch, it writes things on it’s own.

  10. It’s not a lot different from what the ERT cops wear, without the face covering balaclava.
Reductio ad absurdum comments only show ignorant intolerance.
A baseball cap with a beverage label on it doesn’t suit everyone. Seventy yeas ago fedoras and slouch caps were the fashionable head covering.
I’m against letting minorities form isolated ghettoes as the Muslims have done in Eurabia. However those who integrate into our neighborhoods, cultural mosaic and workforce are no different from anyone else. This instance is the same as Sikhs wearing turbans with their uniform.
As long as their faces are showing I don’t care what head-covering they wear. They should be judged by the job they do, not prejudged by their religious beliefs.

  11. north of 60 said: “This instance is the same as Sikhs wearing turbans with their uniform.”
No it isn’t. Historical precedent, in the British Empire Sikh regiments always have the turban as part of their uniform, as do police. Furthermore, we are not currently at war with the Sikhs.

  12. Believe whatever you want to, it’s not worth arguing over.
We are not at war with Muslims living in Canada.
    That’s just being willfully intolerant.

  13. The important thing is, separation of church and state…er…well, only if it involves Christianity.

  14. Osumashi Kinyobe >
“Can you still call a cop wearing a hijab a ‘pig’?”
Heh, you thought a simple baton beat-down was bad, wait until you see the market square beheadings.

  15. Holy Mackerel, Not Toronto, not Ottawa, not the oh-so politically correct OPP or the RCMP, no Sir….Edmonton!
You know, The Capital of the province that didn’t vote for Redford…..

  16. Well the good news for male criminals is that in keeping with Muslim tradition Muslim Police woman will only have half the worth of a man.
You’ll need 2 Muslim police women to testify against each man in court, as we’re keeping with cultural sensitivity and tradition of course.

  17. in the British Empire Sikh regiments always have the turban as part of their uniform, as do police.
    So what?
Furthermore, we are not currently at war with the Sikhs.
We’re not at war with The Muslims either.

  18. Except that if you’re a recent Syrian Christian refugee arrival to Canada, and your entire family had been beheaded by Sunnis fighting for a Shariah state in Syria, a Muslim head covering on a police officer would be akin to a Jewish refugee arriving in Canada in 1945, and finding the local police all wore a skull and cross-bones “totenkopf” with double lightning bolts on their lapels.
As one who is sympathetic to the plight of Christians being massacred in Iraq, Pakistan, Syria and Egypt, I find explicit Muslim symbols in public servants to be disgusting and repugnant, reminiscent of a savage and brutal campaign of religious genocide. Certainly isn’t in any way sensitive to the recent experiences of non-Muslim Canadians.

  19. LAS, my contrarian foil…please give a read to an opinion by someone much more balanced than yourself, bbss at 7:04pm. Comprehension may be difficult but just read slowly.

  20. There’s nothing ‘balanced’ about someone who thinks that the dress code of public servants should orbit around what he imagines terrifies Christian refugees. It’s so absurd I actually laughed. If you can’t handle the hijab please stay in Syria and die.

  21. LAS >
“We’re not at war with The Muslims either”…… or any other pedophiles for that matter!
Just keep’n your “arguments” consistent because you forget to allot of the time, cheers.

  22. LAS >
“If you can’t handle the hijab please stay in Syria and die.”
Yeeees LAS, now there’s some rare consistency. You like to see Al Qaeda murdering all those little brown Christians in Syria.
We also get why you want Islam here as well. Murder, mayhem, and some child brides, we get it already.

  23. The silver lining in this dark cloud. Is you know who to run from. Who not to ask for help.
I, m sure this is a relief to Women in Muslim families where honour killing is a hallowed practice.
To know another honour killing devote is on the job as a cop.
To say nothing of people who know that Muslims view none Muslims as animals fit not to live.
You can bet the fanatics that wear these, would be first in line covering up, or participating in murder for allah.
The Problem with Edmonton & Calgary is the certain fact we have been invaded from Southern Ontario by lib left nut jobs.

  24. I really wonder when people use tolerance as something to beat another opinion they don’t like into the shadows.
That’s what liberals, and their mutant progressive cousins have been doing for decades now (it’s cheating).
I certainly hope people be intolerant as they like when it comes to opinions, this country needs it.
The nice people used to be smart – now not so much.

  25. // I dunno if Edmonton’s mayor is, but Calgary’s certainly is. //

And HE won re-election with 74% of the vote.
As for Edmonton, the new mayor is Ron Ivison —
In Edmonton, Iveson also led from the moment results started coming in.
The 34-year-old captured the imaginations of many voters with Kennedy-esque pleas for Edmonton to lead on an innovation agenda.

Quebec is trying to follow French practice. The French aim to keep religion in its place & out of the public sphere.
    Another example —
// PARIS, France, September 17, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The French government should create an official website to provide women with “correct” information about abortion, and consider expanding the law to allow criminal prosecutions against websites that provide information on abortion from a pro-life perspective, according to a new report submitted by the French “High Council for Equality, Women and Men” (HCEfh), to the country’s minister for women’s rights. //

  26. Intolerance toward a specific person for their actions is understandable, however intolerance toward a group of people based on generalized stereotypes is just bigotry. There’s a big difference which intelligent people will realize. Stupidity and bigotry usually go hand-in-hand.

  27. Stupid idea, why can’t they just adapt to our customs?
Always being forced to bend to the minority is getting beyond rational.
How hot will they get while out of their air conditioned vehicles in summer months? I foresee lots of L&STD, WC and grievance claims.

  28. Stupid idea, why can’t they just adapt to our customs? Posted by: ldd
So, you got a problem with Catholic nuns too?
    They wear similar head coverings.

  29. Are you aware in the slightest what is happening in Europe where non-muslim women are wearing the hijab to avoid being attacked by muslim males? This garb is NOT required by their religion, they are making a political statement by wearing it. Women who wear this garb are fully supportive of sharia law. If a muslim women calls for help in an honour incident and the cop arrives wearing a hijab I am sure she would be more than a little dismayed.
Imagine how the Jewish couple felt in Quebec when they wanted a secular city hall marriage and a muslim in a hijab shows up to officiate it, their sworn enemy.

  30. north of 60 >
“…however intolerance toward a group of people based on generalized stereotypes is just bigotry.”
    Wow, just wow.
Islam is at war and conducting terrorist activities and atrocities in more countries than most people can even name, and you talk about stereotypes.
From the Middle East through Africa, India, Asia, South East Asia, and the Caucuses people of ALL religions and races are maimed and murdered at the hands of Islam every day.
Islam has now found some root in Europe & Scandinavia (no ongoing issues there) and is moving rapidly west. So far in the west we have only experienced a few planes going into buildings, the apprehension of some terrorist training cells like the Toronto 18, and over 32 known Jihadist military training camps throughout the US. They tell us that so far Canada is mainly “just a place” to recruit international “fighters”, launder money, and solicit sympathy from westerners such as you.
Tolerance for Islam has gotten NO COUNTRY on planet earth peace within its borders.
For such a “smart guy” with allot of smart comments you sure do have a lot of learn’n to do.

  31. What we’re missing in this is that it is the ‘holier than thou’ – meaning more progressive and enlightened councillor Scott McKeen who initiated this.
I haven’t read that there was any request let alone demand, for this idea. There’s no indication the Edmonton police force has even had any overt Muslim applications for training.
Just his alluding to Alberta being perceived as ‘redneck’ is all I need to know about this typical latte leftist trying to change the world to reflect his socially superior world views.

  32. This garb is NOT required by their religion, they are making a political statement by wearing it. Posted by: Dave
So you have the same attitude about Catholic nuns, since exactly the same reason applies? Their religion does not require it, but some do by choice.

When do you expect the riots to start in Calgary because they elected a Muslim mayor?

  34. north of 60 >
“When do you expect the riots to start in Calgary…”
When the Calgary Muslim population reaches somewhere between 6% – 10%, just as it has anywhere else in the world.

  35. North of 60, how many catholic nuns sign up for police duty?
So next the Hells Angels recruits to the city police can openly wear their colours, while investigating their brothers.?
Oh right thats why the police investigate themselves. Never mind.

  36. The issue was that some comments objected to Muslims wearing head coverings, not necessarily for police duty.
Do you often make your points with ridiculous extremes? Who does that work with?

  37. If Islam is waging war on us, it’s the lamest war ever. Almost nill deaths. Please take your feverish delusions elswhere. This is the adults’ table.
When do you expect the riots to start in Calgary because they elected a Muslim mayor?
Knight99 prays for a religious war because he’s a demented retard who gets off on violence and bigotry. Sad for him, it’ll never happen.

  38. The point of the post was specifically Muslim head covering on Edmonton policewomen ?
Given the ratio of police up on criminal charges to Hells Angels on same, past cases of corrupt city police leaking info to criminal gangs, including the Hells, I doubt there is anything extreme or ridiculous with the point.
Encouraging an ideologue to masquerade as a city police person, is a ridiculous extreme.
The cultural sensitivity being claimed by city council is a sham, basic surrender to extremists, by applause seeking councillor. The headgear is not a religious requirement, unlike the Sikh hair and turban.

  39. LAS, I get that you’re stupid and no amount of debating will make you clever. Go, therefore, to countries where women must wear hijabs, homosexuals are publicly executed and drug-dealers are, as well. IF you return, drop us a line.
