Coming-of-age in the Seventies, I was sure I knew how to raise my kids in a gender-neutral way. When I actually had kids, they fooled me: no matter what I did, the girl was “girly” and the boy was an orangutan, both from the get-go. Now the boy wants to be a chef, and a pirate at cosplay, and the girl is into fitness, body building, and weddings.
Doesn’t arranging a toy store by type of toy, rather than gender, just make a lot of sense? I won’t miss the eye-scorching pinkness of the Barbie aisles, and if they arranged the G.I. Joes next to them, so much the better! Barbie deserves more choices, too!

My daughters like both guns and swords, and they absolutely love wrestling and rough play. All while comfortably dressed in princess and fairy costumes surrounded by dolls. There are differences between males and females-get over it.

There are both males and females who prefer books, board games, and chemistry kits to guns and trucks-this has more to do with one enjoying intellectual endeavors as opposed to physical ones.
Then you have the children who are drawn to creative and engineering pursuits-colouring, drawing, crafts, cooking, sewing, building blocks, repairing and building bikes etc., creative pursuits are misconstrued as indicators of gender preference as well.

Swedish fertility rate is 1.94 children per women (from wikipedia, Scandinavian demographics article). 2.1 children per women is considered the replacement rate for a human society.
Do the math. That makes for a society that will become extinct. It will become extinct very quickly if it imports millions of arabs to replace the never born natives.
The more “gender neutral a society is, the fewer children they have. The less “gender neutral” they are, the more they have. Its not complicated. If they ever have them the grand daughters of the gender neutral scandis will we wearing burkas. Christians in Syria are being told to “convert or die”. As I remember it, the whole point of raising children “gender neutral” was only to encourage the consideration of non-stereotype career choices (girls can be doctors, not just nurses, boys can be nurses or chefs), and to encourage girls to have careers outside of “housewife” (architect, lawyer, business owner,etc.).

Women are powerful, I have 3 in my house.. My wife and two daughters who run on their own time by punching their own clock.. They are man friendly but not to the point of subservience.. I constantly have to watch what I say, nevermind what I do.. feelings I just don’t understand!
Gender neutral is like asking me to speak a language I don’t understand.. This is why fathers are pretty much useless as mentors / friends to their daughters.. We know how to talk to love interests and how to communicate with female co workers but we cant bridge the gap with our own daughters..

As far as children, little boys and little girls are different. They think different and they act different. I don’t care what the marketers do. Mere facts seem not to make much impression on people like yourself, so I’d encourage you to do the following experiment. If you are a female, try to pee standing up. If not, try to get a person who is female to do it.
If you survive the beating she gives you, come back and tell me about the social construct thing again.

No I’m not. I’m arguing that toy preference likely isn’t innate in children. Telling one group of kids they like guns and another they like irons tells them that they should not play together because they like different toys. That’s a barrier.
