  1. This is literally every public library in every blue city in America. And it’s been this way FOR DECADES. Back in the early 1990s, I used to research old Sanborn fire insurance maps identifying historic site usage on properties for real estate transactions, and they used to be an army of homeless hanging out in Philadelphia’s main public library on Logan Square. The stench was unreal.

By the way, I saw this yesterday and I was amazed she said that it took 10 years to build this library. AYFKM? They’ve built nuclear power plants in less time.

      Ottawa says “hold my latte”:

      Ottawa’s new library: (AI blurb)
Ottawa’s new joint central library and national archives facility is named Ādisōke (meaning “storytelling” in Algonquin). Located at 555 Albert Street on the edge of LeBreton Flats, the 5-story landmark is experiencing construction delays. While completion is currently slated for late 2026, the official public opening is pushed into 2027.
The project has a budget nearing $352 million and is currently about 85% complete. The delays pushed the contractor’s contractual handover to December 2026, meaning the highly anticipated public opening will not happen until 2027.

“The cost was supposed to be a touch under $175 million, of which the feds would pick up about $71 million. We’re now at $334 million plus this $18.5 million ($7 million paid for by the feds) which is a lot of dollars for a facility that was designed to be the best it could be… back in 2014 when we determined the project’s scope. Some fine municipal governance this ain’t.
      But wait. It gets worse.”

  2. Yeah, the bond for this library was approved by voters way back in 2006. At that point, it was for $90 Million. BUT, then they went full tilt bozo on the project. They hired a (I’m not making this up) “Library Futurist.” I don’t know what that is. I don’t really care. I do know, without reservation, that it was a waste of money. They eventually had to approve two more bonds to accomodate the continuously growing cost.

About the homeless….Austin, as most know, is a hippie, progressive, Leftist, Liberal cesspit. And, as a public space, they are disinclined to remove homeless ( or as they call them…unhoused) individuals from the premises during the day because they come into the library for the air conditioning and the free internet. Apparently, homeless (or unhoused) come in every morning, and stay all day monopolizing every single computer available.

It couldn’t happen to a more deserving community.

  3. My town of 50,000 people spent $35M for a massive new Library … where we host Drag Queen Story Hour for our little white kindergartners.

Meanwhile … the sum total knowledge of mankind is readily accessible on my iPad on the arm of my cushy couch. SMH

    1. Ah, you have access to the Library of Alexa-Andria.
      Hope you have a firewall.
I still go to my local library and I enjoy seeing the locals and the friendly librarians.
I picked up my copy of Gad Saad’s new book, Suicidal Empathy. I may submit a book report.

        1. The branch I use is in a working class area of our town.
          They rejected drag queen crap.
The kids just play at art tables and collect dinosaur cards.
I complained as to why I can’t have a dinosaur card, and they said it was because I AM a dinosaur.
PS…my library is in a strip mall, not fancy, but serviceable, with an online delivery system.

      1. And we had a beautiful little library suitably-sized for our community. It was a cool 1950’s Philip Johnson glass and steel box that was a little jewel. The same library that nurtured my Jr. High Sci Fi reading of Heinlein, Asimov, and Bradbury. I’m not anti-library … I’m anti-ridiculously scaled, unnecessary library

  4. About 10 years ago, a bunch of filthy progressives were adamant about wanting to build a ridiculously expensive new public library in my town. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the existing 90 year old library, other than maybe needing a little plaster repair and a new paint job. The worst part was the existing library was a tribute to Jefferson’s Monticello, dome and all. But the progressives don’t give a rat’s ass about history, especially anything having to do with that slaveholder Jefferson. Luckily people finally put a stop to it and today the library looks great, restored to its former glory.
