Eleven days ago Elizabeth O’Bagy, a Georgetown Ph.D. and senior analyst at the Institute for the Study of War, wrote an op-ed in the WSJ suggesting that, contrary to media reports, “the war in Syria is not being waged entirely, or even predominantly, by dangerous Islamists and al Qaeda die-hards.” Her attempt to correct what she argued was widespread misinformation about the true nature of the Syrian opposition forces was based on her own first-hand, extensive, on-the-ground experiences with various rebel groups in Syria, so it seemed fairly convincing.
Four days later John Kerry told members of the House of Representatives that they should inform themselves about the true nature of the Syrian opposition by reading O’Bagy’s article. What he and the WSJ article failed to mention (the WSJ has since updated) was that O’Bagy was also the paid political director of the Muslim Brotherhood-connected Syrian Emergency Task Force, a group that advocates to U.S. audiences on behalf of Syria’s rebels and subcontracts with the current U.S. administration “to provide aid to the Syrian opposition.”
Today, a new development about 26-year-old Elizabeth O’Bagy, the woman whose expertise John Kerry invoked in his attempt to convince opponents of U.S. military action in Syria to get onside:

The Institute for the Study of War has learned and confirmed that, contrary to her representations, Ms. Elizabeth O’Bagy does not in fact have a Ph.D. degree from Georgetown University. ISW has accordingly terminated Ms. O’Bagy’s employment, effective immediately.

    Sounds like another powerful, mainstream US institution has bent it’s knee to the radicals, as a way to avoid ” trouble “. Why subscribe to a Journal that is willing to compromise its integrity to the agenda of the left?

    I’m just thinking of an individual who touted O’Bagy’s piece here at SDA to support his position that Assad used gas, not the ‘rebels’, and that the FSA weren’t like al-Qaeda. I won’t mention any names, but his initials are LAS.
    Yeah LAS, you believed that unmitigated codswallop because you wanted to. It’s how you think.
    You were wrong about al-Qaeda in Libya and you’re wrong about Syria.

    It’s not at all incredible given the Mickey-Mouse — sorry, Mickey! — POTUS and the inept, incompetent stooges with whom he surrounds himself. These guys write their own narrative, with the help of conspirators like O’Bagy, and foist it on the American people and the world.
    Lies are no hurdle to forwarding their agenda.

    I won’t hazard a guess as to why they favor that “look”.
    But,for an allegedly sophisticated operator such as the Secretary of State to put SO much weight on the words of a 26 year old contractor is bloody incredible!
    She MUST have other talents.
    I thought Obama was an amateur, Kerry’s pathetic.

  25. Next time try to think before you type. The fact that a Syrian rebel claims to have used chem weapons doesn’t mean Assad’s forces didn’t. It is still overwhelmingly likely they did. I am still a lot smarter than you.

I think that is possible. The theory is that she was put in there to deliver messages that could then be quoted as coming from a PhD — makes the story credible. This sounds a bit fantastical, but this whole Syria thing is so bizarre (e.g. the Arabs will pay for the attack!) I am ready to accept as possible a lot of speculation about covert activity. I think the US is being set up.

I believe it is on purpose, the Commi crowd are way too sleazy to allow this situation without willing it, IMO.

  41. It’s overwhelmingly likely that Assad’s forces didn’t use chemical weapons. They don’t need to; they have the tanks, planes, artillery, and Russian backing.
    If Assad invited Russia to bring a Spetsnaz brigade or more in to help his government he could legitimately do it just like South Vietnam hosted American troops from about 1961-1973, give or take.

    Liquid sarin (kitchen sarin) dissipates rapidly. Military grade sarin forms crystals on cloth and hair….and is absorbed by physical contact.
