On second thought

Following the US administration’s takes, retakes and gaffes on Syria and the Russian proposition is turning into a head-ache.

Still, the United States said it would take a “hard look” at the plan although State Department deputy spokeswoman Marie Harf said “we can’t have this be another stalling tactic.”

I think it’s pretty much a given that the Russian plan will go forward, the UN will love it, the Security Council will approve it and it gives everyone an out.
The only trick now, as seen by that tweet, is how to play it so that it isn’t seen as an off the cuff remark by Kerry but gosh-darned State Dept. policy put forward by the Messiah.

  1. Hey it’s the ‘Keystone Globocops’…updated for today’s politicized audiences.

  2. “His point was that this brutal dictator with a history of playing fast and loose with the facts cannot be trusted…”
That’s no way to talk about your boss.If it wasn’t for him, you’d still be an obscure former Presidential candidate who married fortunately,John.

  3. Now this is funny.
Putin get’s the WMD, then he can return then to Assad when he feels like it.
No attackes on Sryia, O-dumber has egg on his face.
Putin wins the Nobel Peace prize…..
    Only in 2013. LOL

  4. Ah yes – when the chemical weapons are “sequestered”, then the Syrians can get back to killing each other with conventional weapons.
Bullets and bombs work very well, just as well as nerve gas. They just take longer and need more effort.

  5. If this happens isn’t the genius Obama hung out to dry? If the Russians take charge of Syrian chemical weapons “on behalf of the international community” then exactly what chemical weapon bogeyman is the brave Barack going to shoot at? Check mate. Russians can’t stop laughing.
Time for another round of golf?

  6. What is Obama waiting for?
Get to it man. Those Syrian Christians aren’t going to massacre themselves.
With Assad gone, Obama’s buddies recently turfed from Egypt will have a new base.
    Valerie Jarrett is a genius.
With both sides of the conflict being enemies of civilization, why wouldn’t we just sell them both weapons like the good old days?

  7. Joe: I think the term you’re looking for is “scatological”. That certainly fits obumbles and crew.

  8. The great thing about Republican presidents is that tinpot dictators really do think these presidents are a cross between Clint Eastwood and Dr. Strangelove.
The Obama administration looks more like the Keystone Cops.

  9. Tj,
We will see what the story is. Assad may know that this is a way of legitimizing his regime. Un deals with him. They need a stable government while they compile lists, secure weapons and destroy them. In addition. Remove the chemical weapons and you remove some of the incentive for thebjihadis to topple you and steal your chem weapons.
if the u.s. is serious they’ll back him until the job is done. Allows assad to reassert power and control. Who knows maybe thise weapons werent realy his tostart with. Maybe some where saddams.

  10. @Dustoff: Putin get’s the WMD, then he can return then to Assad when he feels like it.
Where do you think Assad got the WMDs, or at the very least the delivery systems, in the first place?

  11. Under normal circumstances I would agree with you, Rocky View Redneck, except everyone knows that O Blam a doesn’t know s**t!

  12. Gonna be embarrassing when the next chemical weapon attack occurs…..when Assad has surrendered his.
How realistic is it for the “won” consider bombing the “secular, moderate rebels”
    Yeah right…….

  13. Assad must have got some kind of gurrantee from Putin. Mind you by the time the UN can organize themselves the Syrians can hide whatever they need for later. I am not suggesting that they actually used the WMD earlier. Just as likely that the rebels did.

  14. No, no, no, you fools! Can’t you see? This was Obama’s plan all along. It was just too subtle for us mere mortals to understand it. This is what the reset button is finally being used.
Next time, have a little faith. Sheesh!

  15. Jeez, this is Evil Dictator 101 stuff. The North Koreans have done it for decades. You pretend to “negotiate” with Western diplomats, drag out the process for as long as possible, and do your dirty work in some remote part of the country. You get to do what you want without interruption, and the State Department dimwits get to go back and tell everyone they are on the verge of a “breakthrough”. This process can be repeated almost endlessly and is especially effective with lefty administrations.

  16. Let us see now.
Putin, being a real politics kind of guy, poked the occupant of the White House in each eye, here there and everywhere and now slapped him right in the face.
You may say a check mate.
Kerry, who by the way served in Vietnam is one gigantic idiot, this being a medical term rather than an insult.
The guy, Kerry, is one bumbling whacko, that is an insult. He seems to turn simple matters into convoluted stupid pseudointellectual events. The overpowering sense of self intellect is constantly doing opposite of the desired result.
The former secretary of state was no genius, though she was at least grounded in reality. Her actions and doings were as much against her instincts as general Powel’s were against the decisions of Bush.
She, basically, was on a train where ever.
The current secretary of state is on a train into all the wrong places.
Putin clearly wins the round, which is not, all things considered a monumental achievement. And he did not have to sweat. It was like a breeze.
Syria is a no win situation, however harsh this sounds, they have to fight this out.
Harper is somewhat remote to this thing. He says that he is for an attack, though he won’t contribute.
The question is, what kind of position is that?
One can sympathize with no contribution, then rather than go on with hot air, why not shut up?

  17. I can envision warmer “relations” with Russia. It could go something like this:
Picture doe-eyed Obama….. carressed, in a gentle bear-hug by a shirtless Putin. Soft music plays….
Dreamily he gazes in the Russian leaders eyes, murmering “I really want to show my appreciation, for you saving me some embarrassment, by taking charge to secure Syrias chemicals.”
Putin replies softly “You said something about being MORE FLEXIBLE after the election.” He pulls out some gun lube,”how about now? Hmmm?”

  18. I think it makes sense. According to purported intercepts, Assad was pissed off that they were used. He wants to take them out of his general’s hands, who showed they can’t be trusted. Those weapons were meant for the Joooooos. This would legitimize his regime, which is fine with me, probably settle the civil war in his favor, save face for everybody. Putin comes out smelling like a rose, but hey, he is the only one who seems to know how to play the game, of course he should win.

  19. This is the best description I’ve yet seen to describe the situation.
“Kerry “fumbled forward”. . Putin grabbed it, and Obama embraced it.
Face it – even Putin realized an idiot like Obama with a military force like ours was capable of making a massive mess over there. So they pulled Obama back from the cliff by his own collar – and look like the adults in the room. How sad is it that as an American, I have to give a hat tip to Putin for being the adult and bailing Obama’s chestnuts out of the fire?
Putin wins this round – and maybe next time, we won’t have an incompetent blithering idiot who brings the world to the edge of WWIII because he goes off script from his teleprompter!”
