The lede in a Canadian Press story published today reveals that “dozens of suspects accused of corruption at Quebec’s municipal and provincial levels” donated millions of dollars to various federal parties between 1993 and 2011.
Now that you’ve read that, what’s the first thing you want to know?
That’s right. But you won’t find the information until the 21st paragraph, where it’s delivered as a perfunctory, almost obligatory aside.
So, any guesses as to which party was on the receiving end?
Good guess.

Spreading graft and corruption LIEberally…influence peddling for fun and most importantly PROFIT!
The ‘corrupto-palooza’ continues…

Oh well, it might have only got dishonourable mention in the WFP, but, do you think CBC is likely to mention it at all?
You also have to like the paragraph afterwards which takes the time to denote any contribution made to any conservative incarnation ever in existence. They almost reached back to John A.
CTRL-F is your friend. 😉
And before the report mentioned which party received most of the corrupt money, there were eight paragraphs about Liberal MP Sheila Copps, including her efforts to clean up corporate donations, in part because they “hindered the Chretien government’s efforts to implement key policies of the Kyoto climate-change accord.”
Gotta get that Liberal campaigning in before dropping the inconvenient fact, apparently.
Thank you for Control F. I have wondered what had become of the search function.
I recall Jean Chretien bouncing the golf ball and dismissing it all as small time stuff.
That makes it ok.
Now, if it would have been the Conservatives it would be front page in print and first item on CBC, CTV Global news hour until the next election.
Wonder how much I would have to donate to have the Chimp-in-Chief lob about 3000 t’hawks into Queerbec, and about 1500 into Ottawa and Toronto?
When the media avoids saying which party did something bad and calls it a federal or provincial thing, we all know the liberal/left did it
The media is an arm of the political left, both here and in the USA.
this is so well organized – kind of like synchronized swimming – that it is a form of collusion between the political left and the main stream media
makes me want to vomit
“The Liberals, who held power from 1993 until 2006, received the most donations.
Varying smaller amounts went to the old Progressive Conservatives; the Bloc Quebecois; the current Conservative party, and its precursors the Canadian Reform Conservative Alliance and the Reform party.”
Yeah, okay,so I’ll surmise the Liberals received 1.9 million, the Bloc $99,999, the PC $1.
Corrupt Conservatives!
The MSM just can’t do their job, INFORM the peasants, they are compelled to be all liberal, all the time.
This is why punching journalists is never wrong 😉
Awesome parsing…as always…
You must really love the headline at the Prog Post on this story…

Home page has this headline
Quebec corruption suspects gave $2-million to federal Tories, Liberals, analysis finds
Strategic editing/placement of fact – obviously this scribbler knows the attention span of the typical librano zombie doesnt extend 21 paragraphs.
I have concluded some time ago that corruption is endemic in Canadian life. At one time I thought it was only Liebels simply because of their time in government. A sure indicator was no one served time after they got caught passing paper bags of cash. Since the CPC achieved majority government I have not seen a concerted effort to expose the extent of corruption. Now we read about the Senators stealing more.
The CPC is chirping a lot about the coming audits of First Nations. It is a necessary step for good governance but we will see who actually have cuffs put on. I believe corruption exists throughout the civil service. There is a significant portion of those who live in Ottawa who are their for what they can skim off or out right steal. I don’t care what political strip they claim to facilitate their activities.
I always thought that one of the central facets of Reform thought was the conviction that government had to be ‘cleaned up’. That the taxpayers of this country had to receive fair value for the taxes they pay. That the middle class in this country was under attack by those in government, elected and those not elected, who have no compunction to take more and more. I still think that should be one of the over riding concerns but I no longer am convinced that our CPC government has that same conviction.
Yeah, most never venture past the 2nd paragraph….
This is why in business correspondence….if 2 concerns need expressing….2 letters. It’s human nature perhaps….
Great journalism. As always.
This just illustrates just how bad it is for the country to have a federal leader from Quebec in power. It is very unlikely the Conservatives received ANY illicit donations as it was Harper that made them illegal, and they have little support and influence in Quebec, but the FREEP had to put that in to soften the truth.
If the Liberals were in power the Navy’s $25B in ship contracts would have all gone there, guaranteed.

Not quite as bad as I thought,of the $2 million, the Liberals received 85%.
The Conservative and the Bloc also got money. So I guess that means you guys will be voting either Green or NDP? Because, you know… if the Conservatives took their money, they’re guilty too.
Oh wait, I forgot that you guys don’t care about Conservative corruption. Little things like robocalls designed to disenfranchise voters are no big deal, even though a judge found that the Conservatives were clearly up to that dirty business.
This explains why the first bill tabled by Stephen Harper’s government in 2006 was the Federal Accountability Act, which forbade donations by corporations and unions to federal parties and politicians, and which limited private donations.
Presumably Harper had a whiff of what was going on, and was determined to put a stop to it. To the Liberals’ credit, they supported the bill.
The Greens get money from George Soros et al, and sundry other foreign interests, and the NDP is funded by the unions.
In case you don’t know John, the NDP gets their money from union pension/strike funds.
Money from private corporations is cleaner.
“When Copps was in cabinet, the Chretien Liberals placed limits on corporate donations in 2003. They were banned altogether by the Harper Tories in 2006, while individual donations were also capped at $1,100 annually.”
2006 was when the Conservatives first took power.
Before 2006 there was a party called the PROGRESSIVE Conservative party which occasionally took power, but they were PROGRESSIVES not Conservatives.
