  6. The US has long considered being hispanic a culture, not derived of language skill or “dance ability”.
    And certainly not of strictly spanish speaking, but including portuguese as well, or “brasilian” for some.

  14. Yes, hispanic includes portuguese, and catalan as well. It’s derived from those that originated on the Iberian Peninsula, and those that took their culture as their own in the new world. It doesn’t include all the idiots on the island of Hispanola though, just the spanish speaking latinos that didn’t cut all their trees down and watch aimlessly as their topsoil drained into the ocean.
    Within the US, and most of the civilized world, it has nothing to do with race, or as you’ve pointed out, the difference between japanese and Han.
    People can become hispanic, by embracing as their own, the hispanic culture even as I pointed out above, to become great dancers. As an example. They can become “lusophone” or spanish speaking, but the culture is the defining difference.
    I’m surprised that you, as someone that often embraces the culture significance of the french, doesn’t accept this. To no matter, it’s the US that defines it on their governmental / census forms.

  19. One of the jurors interviewed on AC 360 tonight who agreed to the interview only under anonymity, completely blacked out she was, with only her silhouette on the screen. Sad. But it speaks volumes, IMO. Not only does Zimmerman fear for his safety — as he should — but so too does this juror apparently, and I suspect the other 5 do as well. Jurors should never fear for themselves after any trial. This is a shame. And so far, none of the talking heads I’ve heard tonight have commented in that regard.
    Isn’t it interesting to compare the post Zimmerman verdict reaction toward the jury to that post OJ Simpson trial? Both cases extremely polarizing with many just as angry that OJ got away with murder as did Zimmerman. Yet those who opposed the OJ verdict were rational, not forcing the jurors into hiding. In fact, not only did the OJ jurors identify themselves but they did so proudly, right outside the courthouse before reporters, just as Brenda Moran did. Some even attended a “victory party” that night at the estate of the man they had just acquitted earlier that afternoon. The former member of the Black Panthers who flashed OJ the victory sign as the “not guilty” verdict was read? I suspect he was probably among them.
    Though, no need for the Zimmerman jurors to flash the victory sign to George from the jury box. No need to attend a post verdict celebration for George that was never held. Nope! Just rendering the “wrong” verdict is enough for them to fear for their safety. Yet nothing said about that on any of the interviews I saw tonight.
