Aren’t the Toronto Star the ones that made up the story about the Ford crack video? And that drug dealers won’t sell it for $200,000? Humour maybe?? Remember the old days when newspapers reported the NEWS and people actually bought them to get the NEWS? You don’t see much news in newspapers and they don’t sell many newspapers anymore.
What a vile, petty little article. Is this really the state of journalism at The Star these days.
Christopher Hume: Old Indian word for squaw-man.
What a leftist dork.
Ass grabbing lies from leftist’s.
Crack Smoking photoshopping endorsed by more leftists.
Hundreds of millions of tax savings by Ford removing play money from even more leftists.
One thing we know for sure, Hume is arguably the world’s preeminent experts on losers.
Projection being the order of the day.
Yes, Scar, as the article states “(t)hanks to the munificence of Mayor Rob Ford, they enjoyed free hamburgers and beer, fridge magnets and photographs, as well as His Worship’s personal phone number, a good one to call next time they have any questions about potholes, garbage pick-up or crack cocaine.”
Does Hume mean, “thanks to my utter lack of professionalism, I’ll sneer and smear to cover the fact my paper and I are completely wrong about the so-called crack allegations, and am quite obviously blinded to my own lack of objectivity and blinding ideology?”
When were the crack allegations demonstrated to be wrong? Last I heard there was plenty of corroborating evidence. If nobody cares that he did this and lied about it because they think he’s an effective mayor that’s one thing, but to pretend the story was fabricated seems silly at this point.
Corroborating evidence? Like what? Do you believe that people who will sell drugs to children are somehow too proud to sell a video for $200,000? It’s all fiction.
Wait…
Christopher Hume is still alive??
Hume’s Fordphobia goes back a long way. Hoy nails it. http://www.citizen.on.ca/news/2011-06-30/Columns/If_you_dont_agree_youre_intolerant.html
“…Normally sensible Toronto Star columnist Royson James, for example, says Ford “turns his back on gay community.” His Star colleague Christopher Hume got completely carried away, offering his readers the following bit of hysteria: “In Rob Ford’s Toronto there is no need for public health nurses. There are no poor people, no gays, no immigrants, no cyclists, no need for housing and nothing the market can’t fix.”
Geez Rob, you should have gone to ‘that’ parade.
The article demonstrates the author’s point – the level of mediocrity and “opinion” in the Star is far less than world class.
Yes, tells us all about the “corroborating evidence.” Oh right, Ford was in town one day when we know crack cocaine was sold. There you go, signed sealed and delivered.
Lack of “proof” Ford didn’t use crack cocaine is apparently proof he did, according to Hume and K Stricker. OTOH there is plenty of “corroborating evidence” that the so-called media doesn’t check their facts and acts more like the National Enquirer or the paparazzi than actual journalists, inventing hysteria and sensationalism.
Let’s see how the TStar handles this, which to their credit they have reported:
“Police have arrested a University of Toronto professor and member of Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne’s transition team on several charges, including making child pornography.” http://www.thestar.com/news/crime/2013/07/08/u_of_t_prof_former_deputy_minister_education_arrested_for_child_porn.html
I won’t hold my breath waiting for the 24/7 coverage of this story. OTOH, each is entitled to the presumption of innocence, something Hume and his ilk never give to those they oppose politically.
I drove past the Toronto Star building yesterday. Gave it the finger on the way by, and opined that it would look a lot better if a howling mob spent some quality time lobbing Molotovs at it.
Now I read this article, I see that barbarians are burning it down from the inside. I guess they can see the damage better, and feel that since the whole thing is coming down any day now at least there’s no reason to hold back on the hate and bile. Just let ‘er rip.
Got to agree with him on one point though. Toronto does have a loser culture. Nobody with the cojones of even a chicken would put up with that place. Wasn’t always that way, but it sure is now.
Published in News/GTA by the “Urban Issues” columnist, no less.
Christopher Hume? The elder?
Kathy S. is equally flummoxed!
He’s still alive?
And still does his thing at the Red Star, Crescent & Swastika?
Still denouncing the architecture of private parking garages, etc.?
Talk about zombie media.
I thought City-TV was bad for that when I check in once per decade.
Somebody notice me!!! LOL What a world class putz..
Maybe he should pack up and head off to California so he can hang out with those bankrupt winners..
Christopher Hume is about as close to gay as an allegedly straight man can get. White wine spritzers R him.
He is neither. Neutered male, leftard thing.
Trawna … center of the universe … like black hole … small and dense.
Hume is a pompous ass. Trust the Star to employ him.
He ends the article: “As recent events in Brazil made clear, the age of bread and circuses is coming to an end. Now, it’s one or the other. Brazilians want bread, Torontonians prefer circuses. We’d rather be amused than amazed. From Ford to Phaneuf, failure feels fine.”
I hope “failure feels fine” to Hume, because this article’s a fail and he’s an idiot.
Seeing as Dion Phaneuf’s wedding took place in Prince Edward Island, I have no idea — and, frankly, I don’t think Hume does either — what Phaneuf has to do with Torontonians. I guess he liked the alliteration: F(ord), Ph(aneuf).
Well, F/Ph U, Mr. Hume.
I’ve never heard of the gentleman and wasn’t sure what his point was. But if Hume were a Horta and I was Spock all I could say was “Pain….PAIN…….TARD PAIN!!!”
The writer of the article is only providing more proof that the majority of liberals fall under one or all three of the following catagories:
Nancyboys, busybodies, or killjoys.
martini sipping socialist
Not from the neck up. Maybe he’s so bitter becuase the same applies from the waist down…
“Bread and circuses” is part of the left’s modus operandi. Keep the masses distracted so they don’t figure out that the left’s policies lead to general deprivation.
And I really must try to remember to read ‘eyecrazy’ once a day instead of once every few months.
Come on folks; on the same web page are the links that highlight the reason for the Star’s existence.
To wit: “Do you live in a hipster neighborhood?” complete with map.
Now that is information you can take to the bank.
“It’s amazing how Chris Hume’s writing seems to attract the lowest of the low to the comments section. If anyone has better ideas of how to make a city work I have yet to hear them – and certainly not from those calling Hume names because they think they’re smarter than he is.”
From the comments at the link, from “Morty”.
Funny thing is, there is not one single mention in the Hume article suggesting a “better idea of how to make the city work”.
Not one. Nothing of the kind. Plenty of negativism directed at Ford, though.
This article should be part of Ryerson’s Journalism classes,”how to write a smear job and get paid for it”.
Corroborating evidence:
The location/description of the house Rob was photographed in front of and the names of owners and what happens in their house matches up with the story. In addition, a comment on the internet suggesting Rob Ford smokes crack from before the story matches up with the first name of that house’s owner. That starts to be too many coincidences and/or a really idiotically planned conspiracy. Link here. I think the star/etc. are as ridiculous as anyone else here, but at some point you have to be open to the possibility that a known sleazy politician is just covering up a sleazy act here.
K. Stricker…a link to gawker for evidence?
Really?
bluetech: That’s all you’ve got? Really? It was the only article that had a good summary of details available at various sources. Sorry I didn’t link to all of them so you could belligerently not look at any of them anyway.
Actually, this one has the details and is actually fairly neutral about it. Key point I’d like to hear an answer to: “Trickier to explain: why the picture appears to have been taken in front of that notorious bungalow on Windsor Road.”
