I’ll spare you detailed comment on the goings-on of communist leaders who achieved real power—from serial killer and rapist Laurence Beria, stopped only when he was put down by the rest of the Politburo, to nymphomaniac Elena Ceausescu, who used to abuse herself to tapes of the sweet music made by her own daughter while the daughter played the whore with half of Romania.
    I’ll also spare you details of the love of sodomy and pederasty practiced down the ages by the Islamic and Roman clergy, except to note that the Roman clergy in French Canada did not spare generations of the best and brightest sons of their nation lessons in the finer points of sin.
    Closer to home, the pervert lobby has been more than influential in the Liberal Party, starting (that anybody will admit to) with Pierre Trudeau. I hope that one day, when Justin is asked has he anything to say before he is sent to join his father, that he will finally come clean about the party games he learned from his father as his father had learned them from the Jesuits, by way of begging the court to have pity (for sure wasn’t the poor man abused as a child!).
    And just so we’re clear, don’t worry. Hell is exactly where they’re going.

    At least three generations of the males in my family were educated by Jesuits–granted, this was in pre-Vatican II days, i.e., before the Church became Protestantized–with no “party memories” to report.

The charge generally leveled against the Catholic Church by its modern enemies is that it is obsessed with sin . . . as in not getting with the program precisely on what (to the critics) should be mere lifestyle issues; you know, things like homosexual sodomy, abortion, divorce, etc. The Catholic position on these acts is that they are _mortal_ sins, serious enough to damn yourself if not repented. If you have heard a Catholic cleric saying otherwise, he is a wannabe Episcopalian (that’s Anglican for Canadians) cleric; I’ll admit, we have too many of those, but they are _bucking_ Church doctrine, gainsaying the teaching of the Magisterium, and placing their souls in grave jeopardy.
    By the way, the Gospel was handed down “once and for all” (Jude 1:3) in Apostolic times; no “modern perspective” supersedes it.

    I find it just as offensive when i read about a school teacher having a gang bang with her male students like it or not men that is sexual abuse …same with a cop ,or doctor,or any other seeming proffessional in a position of trust it is not the work of the church or the police force or the bar association it is evil manifesting itself in humans, it happens in order to break people of there faith ,there will and there trust in there fellow man but more importantly to break there faith and trust in our savior and our heaveanly father.

And, no, I won’t lighten up; Catholics are _supposed_ to be apologists–you do know what that word actually means, don’t you?–for their Faith. Incidentally, I don’t make any excuses for priest-pederasts; what they do is damnable (Mt 18:6, Mk 9:42, and Lk 17:2), in the strict sense of that word (though the actual judgment of their sins is God’s prerogative). But, guess, what? The same problem exists to a similar extent in Protestant denominations: As I posted earlier, I suggest that the fatuous Catholic-bashers on this thread read Philip Jenkins’ books on the subject. I would suggest that a lot of Protestants are in denial about that inconvenient fact.
    I notice that you couldn’t resist taking a parting shot at “RCs” who vote Liberal. I’m an American, so I’m hors de combat on that one. (I always vote for the most conservative candidate available, almost always a Republican in the last two decades; that is generally the pattern among practicing–as opposed to nominal–Catholics where I live.) But the implied insult is noted. I must say, this thread has been illuminating; I never realized before that so many anti-Catholic bigots were to be found among self-professed Canadian conservatives. Thanks for the lesson in transnational civics.

Christians of all denominations need to hang together in their fight against the Powers and Principalities of the Enemy (who must be crowing deliriously on the battlements of Hell, given how successfully he has undermined the moral structure of what used to be called Christendom).

In the meantime, Protestants . . . largely denied pederasty was a problem for them, and did next to nothing . . . except, in some of the more “progressive” denominations, to exalt their homosexual clergy as exemplars for their parishioners. Gene Robinson, anyone? As for money scandals: Gortner, the Bakkers, Swaggart, and Roberts come to mind straightaway.
    Incidentally, do you have figures to show that the “RC” is the biggest criminal organization in the world? Given how much more money Protestant churches take in per capita, I would venture that Protestantism, collectively, probably has the Catholic Church beat by a good margin. But, of course, you have no interest in checking your “facts.” You’re just one more bigot on this thread. So much for “Canadian nice.”

Even Sadaam Hussein’s messenger was a Christian because he knew a Christian was no threat to his life or his rule. Christians follow the laws in the country in which they reside.
    Yet many have something against acting like a Christian in public. Very odd…even though our very laws descend from scripture.

    Incidentally, when I am engaged in a proper dialogue as to why I believe as I do, I strive to follow the advice of 1 Peter 3:15. But that is not what is happening here, is it? _You_ might wish to consider the following Scriptural verse (Mt 7:3): Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?
    A bit of parting advice: If you wish to be treated with respect, you might try to show some yourself.

  39. gellen, I nearly always agree with your posts. However, as far as your dialogue with Carlos goes, I have to demur.
    I am a Catholic convert, which is pretty amazing — a miracle, really — because of the number of Catholics I have encountered in my life who have been true servants, often prophetic ones, of Jesus Christ and His Gospel. I grew up in a staunch Protestant home with the usual myths and prejudices against the Roman Catholic Church — to the point that when a lovely Catholic boy walked me home from a dance one night when I was 13, I asked myself, climbing the stairs to my front door, “why am I not supposed to like him?”
    It bugs me, too, that Catholics tend, knee-jerk, to vote Liberal but after almost 7 years of PM Harper’s CPC government, that’s changing. Did you know that the Honourable Jason Kenney is a convert to Catholocism? Of all of the Christian Churches, gellen, the Roman Catholic Church is the biggest provider of both education and health care in third-world countries and has held the line on the changing sexual mores in our society, on abortion, on same-s*x partnerships/marriage, etc., something the rest of the mainline Churches have miserably failed to do. ‘Tail wagging dog.
    I see nothing wrong with Catholics defending their Church and being proud of its faithfulness in the face of persecution and bigotry while acknowledging that because Jesus’s hands and feet belong to us frail human beings there will be lapses, often terrible ones.
    We are living in perilous times. As the Archdiocese of Chicago’s Cardinal Francis George has said, “I expect to die in bed, my successor will die in prison, and his successor will die a martyr in the public square.”
    Of all of the mainline churches, like it or not, gellen, and with all due respect, the Roman Catholic Church is holding the Gospel line while it continues to reach out to the poorest and most disenfranchised in the world — who, BTW, do not have to be Christians to benefit from the RC Church’s services. That doesn’t mean that hundreds of thousands of faithful Protestants aren’t involved in similar ministries; unfortunately, however, these ministries are often without the blessings of their “progressive” (sic) clergy, bishops, moderators, and synods. I know. I used to be one of those Protestants who couldn’t help but wonder where my support was coming from, because it sure as heck wasn’t coming from my bishops or synods.

    The worst part of this whole story lies in the fact that it is now off the radar, and the lamestream media will not continue to hash it over ad nauseum because the guy is not ‘a man of faith’ (any faith).
    Not all priests are pervs.

    The incident of/ratio of pervs from any profession is equivalent to the incidence of pervs that are priests.
