  1. Peggy Noonan: “An Antidote to Cynicism Poisoning“, in the WSJ.
    Excerpt:
“This scandal is different and distinctive. The abuse was systemic—from the sheer number of targets and the extent of each targeting we know many workers had to be involved, many higher-ups, multiple offices. It was ideological and partisan—only those presumed to be of one political view were targeted. It has a single unifying pattern: The most vivid abuses took place in the years leading up to the president’s 2012 re-election effort. And in the end several were trying to cover it all up, including the head of the IRS, who lied to Congress about it, and the head of the tax-exempt unit, Lois Lerner, who managed to lie even in her public acknowledgment of impropriety.
“It wasn’t a one-off. It wasn’t a president losing his temper with some steel executives. There was no enemies list, unless you consider half the country to be your enemies.”

  2. Elevated Carbon Dioxide Making Arid Regions Greener
May 31, 2013 — Scientists have long suspected that a flourishing of green foliage around the globe, observed since the early 1980s in satellite data, springs at least in part from the increasing concentration of carbon dioxide in Earth’s atmosphere. Now, a study of arid regions around the globe finds that a carbon dioxide “fertilization effect” has, indeed, caused a gradual greening from 1982 to 2010.

  3. “Women are the primary breadwinners in 40 percent of U.S. households today. But in most of those families, women are the primary earner because they are the only earner. One in four houses are now led by a single mom, who earn an average income of just $23,000.”
Ok, but isn’t this what the feminist movement wanted ? Can’t remember a lot of males wanting to give up their obligations to support a wife and family 40 years ago.

  4. Excellent pick EBD, and I especially liked the way it was so sexually balanced. I’m sure Elvis did a good version too rzr, but he didn’t go to jail for his missteps in life, so may not have had the same empathy or awareness of his sins.

  5. This is rich coming from Chris MacDonald, Director of the Jim Pattison Ethical Leadership Program at Ryerson University’s [aka Rye High’s] Ted Rogers [aka Robbersdotcom] School of Management in the Probe and Fail:
Rob Ford must resign. Now. Regardless of what happened
    http://www.theglobeandmail.com/commentary/rob-ford-must-resign-now-regardless-of-what-happened/article12282735/
Now, if someone were to start a rumour about Mr. MacDonald without substantiating their claims and then were to continue to hound him in public about something for which there’s no proof, I’m sure he’d resign from his position.
What doesn’t this guy understand — isn’t he involved in “ethical leadership”? — about blackmail, lies, and innuendo as vehicles to discredit and get rid of a public figure who is vehemently and viscerally hated by Toronto’s elites? This salvo to take out Mayor Rob Ford is only the latest in a steady stream of missiles aimed at Toronto’s duly elected mayor.
If MacDonald had an ethical bone in his body, he’d be exposing the media’s mendacity and their utter moral bankruptcy in colluding with Toronto’s elites to rid Torontonians of their mayor. Torontonians will make the decision about what to do with Rob Ford at the next mayoralty election. In the meantime, Mr. MacDonald should be calling off the media hyenas — but seeing as he’s tight with the journalism crowd at Ryerson, his conflict of interest will, no doubt, ensure that media jiggerpokery is safe from his “ethical” pontificating.

  6. Correction: What does this guy [Chris MacDonald] not understand … about [media] blackmail, lies, and innuendo …

  7. Thanks, batb. Here’s another ridiculous article fatuously arguing Ont Premier Wynn has some kind of legal authority to oust Rob Ford over his “scandal:”

Equating this with with the Montreal mayor issue is pure crap. As you say unsubstantiated allegations with no evidence let alone proof passing for investigative journalism nowadays – unless you’re cool then you get a pass.
Kudos to the Sun for printing this Kinsella journalistic parody:

Perhaps a more relevant comparison would be the Bengazi/IRS show.

  8. AGW’s Bubble Has Burst.
No mention of ex-Liberal Senator Harb in this tale of greed, corruption, and venality. The conniving perpetrators are socialist politicians conspiring to use Red-Green Fraud for their personal financial gain at the expense of taxpayers.

“UK politicians caught in lobbying scandal”
“LONDON (AP) — Three members of Britain’s House of Lords were suspended by their parties Sunday after apparently being caught in newspaper stings agreeing to lobby Parliament in return for cash.
Labour peers Brian Mackenzie and Jack Cunningham and Ulster Unionist member John Laird were recorded by a Sunday Times reporter pretending to represent a solar energy firm.
They appeared to agree to push the firm’s cause in Parliament. Cunningham was recorded saying he could help with “knocking on doors, introductions and getting to see people, including if necessary the ministers,” as well as asking questions in the Lords — for a fee of up to 12,000 pounds ($18,000) a month.”

“Originally, it was thought to be the coldest spring since 1962.”
“According to the Central England Temperature Series, England has just experienced its coldest Spring since 1891. The average mean temperature of 6.87C ranks the 31st coldest on records starting in 1659, and is 2 degrees lower than the 1981-2010 average of 8.9C.”

  13. Chris MacDonald, alleged “ethical” leader: “Even if the allegations against him are untrue, that is now beside the point. It is now too late to salvage the effectiveness, not to mention the dignity, of his term as mayor.”
Who the hell cares about “dignity”? That’s the left’s go-to anti-concept whenever they’re trying to pull the wool over our eyes, whenever they can’t come up with a real argument (which is usually).
For all his faults real and imagined, Mayor Ford generally tries to put taxpayers first. That’s why the left can’t stand him – they hate the middle class that make up the bulk of the taxpaying public.

  14. Your comparison to Benghazi / IRS (not to mention AP) is apt.
Maybe Harper should come clean on the $90,000 – just as soon as the Liberals pay back the hundred million or so in tax money that went missing in the Adscam scandal.
