Cripes, I’m in T.O. and I had to look up this guy and the rag he writes for – it’s The Grid, the Toronto Star’s replacement for the now-defunct Eye Magazine, which wasn’t sufficiently loopy to compete with the craptacular NOW Magazine (which I do flip through while having a pint at the pub, just to see what the commies are up to. The Grid? It’s about 10 pages long at not worth anyone’s time).

  7. So, Andrew Coyne writes re the Fords that “Everyone is entitled to the benefit of the doubt. But the presumption of innocence does not require us to believe in fairy tales,” after having assured Tweet readers that it’s “only the best from now on”?
    The biggest problem with Mr. Coyne’s credibility, no matter how smart, brilliant, intelligent he may be, is that he’s way too well connected to Canada’s elites — Bank of Canada, Canada’s incestuous theatrical community, Liberal “royalty” — to be entirely independent in his thinking and pontificating. Rex Murphy nicely fills this bill.
    I always get the feeling that Coyne’s trying to balance the teeter-totter rather than allow it to land where the weight is. When he starts seriously questioning all of the Liberal jiggerypokery — both federal and provincial — and asking why the federal Liberals haven’t paid back what they owe the Canadian public for Adscam, etc., etc., ad nauseum, then I’ll consider his writing “only the best.”
    Canadians have been living with the media-generated fairy tale of Trudeau Royalty for years and may be saddled with Stuck-on-Stupid Toddler-Trudeau-in-ermine as PM if our media betters don’t start delivering “only the best” — which would mean no more shilling for the “natural ruling party” (sic).

    Remember, they are our moral and intellectual superiors, and Rob Ford and Stephen Harper must have won by cheating…cause…well they are not one of the cool kids and voters are just too dumb to be trusted….gosh can’t we just go back to the days when the leader was chosen not by some democratic process and instead because they won the lucky y chromosone lottery?

  10. As a journalist this Keenan guy is typical :People who don’t agree with me/us are crazy.
    Bubba Coyne’s “keen/mean” idea as a guiding principle to sell the news is basically the management style of “the beatings will continue until the morale improves”. Both rely on the false notion that employees and customers have no other options and that there are an infinite number of replacements for those who won’t tolerate being treated badly. Yes, he meant it sarcastically but it’s not that far off reality.
    To me that is the glaring problem with journalists: they don’t see customers, they see a grand social science project. A mission to convert the public into seeing the world exactly the same way they do. And not through any kind of wit or charm, rational debate or polite discussion. Nope. Their main tool is a grown up version of “Conservatives have cooties” (Conservatives can of course be replaced by whomever is interfering with their statist vision of Utopia – libertarians, taxpayers who question the newest tax and spend ideas or people who don’t think the media should be our judge, jury and executioner in politics). The description that most often comes to mind when I read the typical condescending and/or insulting column is how childish journalists can become when their target is someone they arrogantly decide is inferior.

    Olivia Chow has no chance of defeating Rob in the suburbs..
    I can wait to put our fat stupid embarrassment back into the Mayors chair in 2014..
    Nothing (and I mean nothing) provides value in our tax dollars than this political message..
    Remember it was a flat broke Toronto (leftist politics) that imposed this mega city upon the suburbs.. We haven’t forgotten this failure cash grab and will NEVER hand the keys back..

    I know of the subsidized housing in her Mother’s name, but haven’t heard of anything else about the widow of the late Saint Jack de la Whorehouse.

  16. This Rob Ford scandal will end up hurting the Toronto Star and The Globe and Mail (both liberal rags).. Wanting to bring Toronto back into the Lib left fold is absolutely necessary for little Trudeau to have any chance at his royal coronation..

  18. Here in Tarawna i ran into an aquaintance yesterdee at Starbucks – a fireman and retired as of 2 months ago. We fell into conversation as to this baffling Rob Ford issue. We soon discovered that we were of the same mind – that no matter the outcome of the crack biz we’d both vote for Ford tomorro. Media witch hunts do that….

    The biggest one? Jack Layton.
    The next biggest one? She’s Mrs. NDP.
    The next biggest one? A few years ago, just before Jack died, both Chow-down and Jack Laydown submitted to Canadian taxpayers the largest bill of yearly “expenses” of any sitting MPs — and their constituencies were in Toronto not in far-away BC and they said they were “for the working people.” The only way Olivia Chow is “for the working people” is that she needs us to work to keep her in the lifestyle to which she’s grown accustomed. I’ve taken a good look at the clothing she wears: very high end, very expensive. They’re not “working class” clothes.
    Then? She defended Jack’s visit to the rub-and-tug parlour. He was visiting a “health” facility, dontcha know?
    I’m sure I’ve missed a whole pile of other ones. What I’ve mentioned are just the tip of the ice berg.

    The only way that would happen is if the acting mayor stepped down and some back room deal appointed her..
    They can craft all the baloney polls they want.. On election day the suburbs will vote with their hands on their wallets.. Downtown will vote with their hands on their hearts.. With Rob Ford winning again..
    Old Toronto can vote to leave the GTA and fund their own politics.. Sorry I forgot thats what made them broke in the first place.. Silly me..
    What they have to do is put up as many condos as they can so they can take back their city $$$ and get their hands on all that cash..
