Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Why just 1.2 billion Catholics?
As far as I know all Christians celebrate Easter.
That’s 2.1 Billion worldwide.
Or 2.1 billion bible thumping, redneck, gun clinging nuts as Obama’s pastor would say.
The article sums it up nicely; they are proud of their ignorance.
As an agnostic, I’ve been saying for years that it’s very important to teach the bible in our public schools. Not to indoctrinate students, but to provide them a frame of reference for western literature, art, film, and most importantly, history.
Unfortunately, most atheists and agnostics see no value but indoctrination in teaching the Bible, and Christians would likely teach it as gospel, not literature, thus reaffirming the objections from the aforementioned atheists and agnostics. Oh well, we’ve always got South Park for an accurate source of information.jmo
To get to 2.1 billion Christians, you probably have to include a lot of people like Obama’s former pastor in the count. And it was Obama that made the statement about clinging to guns and religion.
It probably doesn’t do one a bit of good around the NYT to be known as the
goto guy for a quick and dirty backgrounder on how the ignorant might extract
themselves and their copy from a major faux pas re writing about Christianity.
I’ve agreed with that conclusion for over 20 years. I first noticed it whenever they would talk about firearms or gun control. Absolutely clueless. And then you talk to other people who have expertise in other areas, they reach the same conclusion. I have no faith that newspaper writers can get ANYTHING right. Fracking, global warming, banning herbicides (which they call pesticides, btw), any subject, they know nothing about it except what they found out yesterday.
Love the link at pjmedia. Now instead of the Dumb Guy, we just have to use urinilists.
I agree with you, Indiana. Confirmation bias is one of the most annoying aspects on both sides of the debate. Speaking as an atheist, it should be manifestly obvious by now that most English and other European literature is virtually meaningless without understanding biblical references.
I don’t know about “most” however. I suspect those those seeing it or wishing to use it for indoctrination are a small minority, albeit they shout the loudest.
Time to repost the Michael Crichton quote again:
“Briefly stated, the Gell-Mann Amnesia effect is as follows. You open the newspaper to an article on some subject you know well. In Murray’s case, physics. In mine, show business. You read the article and see the journalist has absolutely no understanding of either the facts or the issues. Often, the article is so wrong it actually presents the story backward—reversing cause and effect. I call these the “wet streets cause rain” stories. Paper’s full of them.
In any case, you read with exasperation or amusement the multiple errors in a story, and then turn the page to national or international affairs, and read as if the rest of the newspaper was somehow more accurate about Palestine than the baloney you just read. You turn the page, and forget what you know.”
Daniel — Exactly right. I have multiple experiences of dealing with journalists in different areas. They invariably are totally incapable of understanding anything you say, and are more than happy to just make stuff up.
Yet we still read/watch/listen to their garbage.
In the days when it was just garbage it was sort of ok. Now its constructed to serve a political cause, in every area. Its no longer just annoying, its dangerous.
Do-It-Yourself Easter Kit: 2 boards, 3 nails, and a New York Times journalist!
The only problem is that they can’t save anyone; even less themselves…

Treat everything you read as if it is absolute BS … unless the writer proves otherwise within the article.
That goes in double spades for broadcast news.
As far as I know all Christians celebrate Easter.
The Biblically illiterate ones, anyway…
Rabbits, eggs and other fertility symbols have no connection to Passover. Jesus became our Passover (1Corinthians 5:70), not our fertility symbol.
actually doowled, most kristians, especially RC’s, are lefties, so yer “bible thumpin red necks” doesn’t hold all that much water!
as to the NYT goofup, so what’s new, I even find the TO Sun pretty good at screwing up
You wouldn’t know a Catholic if one slapped you in the face.
If the error was overlooked by those supposedly in the know, who is to say they were reading in the first place?
Enemy,
And all atheists are leftists, or whatever else they choose to follow to stay alive.
Two NYT reporters are assigned to cover the start of winter in Toronto. They get across the border at Cornwall and the first sign they see reads: TORONTO LEFT.
So they turned around and went back to NYC.
Hey….it does work!
Daniel, that is precisely why I totally ignore the MSM. Don’t know how many of my patients I’ve convinced to do the same but am finding it interesting to see what they’re upset about and I haven’t a clue what they’re talking about. The MSM has truly become the opiate of the masses and far more destructive socially than real opiates.
If I see someone reading the National Enquirer I now know that they’re probably more informed than that portion of the population that reads MSM BS. Given the number of stories the National Enquirer has broken that later were shown to be true, they’ve got a far better track record than the vast majority of the MSM which can best be described as all lies all of the time.
Many people seem to be addicted to the products of the MSM and have an inordinate fascination with the details of the lives of the vacuous whose only talent is to simulate human emotions in movies. It would be far better if MSM addicts took up ingestion of psychedelics instead as it would be much less harmful to them in the long run and would also put them in far closer contact with objective reality. Perhaps, if society finally realizes how dumbed down the population is becoming, the DSM6 will have MSM obsession as a psychiatric diagnosis.
I don’t know what else you can expect when you have smarmy secular atheists assessing the Christian faith (or any other).
The fact they are atheists is proof spiritual matters escape their realm of understanding, so intolerance is all these elitist fools have to cope with things they don’t understand. However, the new genetic mutation of journolistas have been indoctrinated in radical secular technocratic statism and are actually ferociously anti-Christian. Make no mistake about it, when these Fabian technocratic quislings permeate the power structure (as we see starting now) we will see people politically persecuted for their Christian faith once again – just as they always have been in Imperial Rome and the black holes of spiritual enlightenment. And they call themselves “progressive”. Ha!
The urge to not just defame but persecute Catholics/Christians is so strong in these collectivist-statist foot soldiers it take precedence over their placation of illegal aliens – 90% of whom are Catholic. Their god is government and if they have any spirituality it is misplaced in the new dogmatism of self destructive earth worship.
Occam, and Soviet Russia, Nazi Germany, China and a great number of other leftist hellholes.
Demonstrating your glaring ignorance once again, are you?
Since its demise I will forever miss the “Weekly World News.”
No pretense, just imagination. But then again, the MSM has picked up the slack.
And if you think the Resurrection/Ascension thing confuses them, don’t trust anything they may have to say about the Immaculate Conception – but then it confuses most Protestants too.
It is about the the conception of the Mother of God, and that she is said to have been conceived without original sin. To Catholics, Christ was conceived “immaculate” by right, His mother by the Grace of God. Assumpta Maria is something else again!
