Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

The ones with the savings are probably not the entitlement crowd that voted for governments that created the debt to keep them happy. I would be mad too if they tried to take my savings, especially when this is dictated by an unelected body.
Coming to a bank near you in the USSA soon. Have fun.
Just wait until DC tries this here, it will be Henry Bowman time. Learn where your local law enforcement and politicians live. These are your first _ _ _ _ _ _ s. 😉
Ok…today is Thurs. , you are broke but have money in the bank which may or may not open next Tue. If you have children and need groceries or gas/bus fare or anything else that requires cash, you are s.o.l. Let’s pay attention and learn because this could well be the scenario coming close to us at any time. I know in my own case I am so reliant on paying with debit that I seldom pay attention to what I have in my wallet. That ends tomorrow and I’ll make sure I have a few hundred tucked away for such a occasion. Best idea is keep it all under your mattress (or?) because the bank doesn’t pay interest anyway.
The “entitlement crowd” are in this case Greek kleptocrats, to whom their Cypriot cousins stupidly handed over half the money their depositors gave to them (via purchases of Greek government debt, now worthless) so the kleptocrats could live the high life.
Many of these protesters are actually rank and file employees of Cypriot banks who did all the actual work at bank branches, accepting deposits, making change and cashing cheques, who are furious at the disappearance of their livelihoods through no fault of their own. They know in their hearts, better than anyone, that the banks they worked for faithfully and honestly will never reopen and their bosses have sold their country to the Russians for open invitations to Athens drinking parties, betraying their staff as much as anyone.
The insistence that the banks will re-open next week is merely to buy the Cypriot banksters and politicians time to pack what they can’t live without, commit new identities and Swiss bank accounts to memory, and get off the island before Russian paratroopers start landing in Nicosia.
Oh, and by the way—the Toronto-Dominion bank, when times get tough, have no intention of paying you back your life savings either, except in worthless central bank confetti from Ottawa. The US? Don’t laugh too loud. This is Toronto in 2020, if you’re lucky. The nice thing about being a bankster is you never have to accept the consequences of your actions.
Sing along with me.
They’re rioting in Africa. . .
Merry Minuet
Own a gun and you can rob a Bank. Own a Bank and you can rob a country.
Doesn’t look like a riot to me. Just some scuttling with a lot of cameras trying to frame a crowd out of a smattering.
Certainly no riot that I could see either…and not much in the way of force from either side.
I’m curious. Why do you single out The Toronto-Dominion bank in particular with your rant.
Looks like the latest street theatre adaptation of “The Strange Case of the European Union Collapse”,
as performed by the public sector unions of Cyprus.
Yes, they’re projecting force with small crowds to send a message to the population, hence “warding off” a run on the bank.
many will have bank accounts because of their UNDERGROUND economy dealings, these are Greeks after all!!!!
I recall Red Fraud talking about eliminating uniform testing in our schools and I was expressing my concern to a few enlightened teacher friends. They explained to me in a very patronizing way that Europe doesn’t have these tests and went on to explain how well things are working for them. I knew at that point there was no point in continuing the discussion.
What this episode shows is how very fragile the EU and the Euro really is. Here’s a Dutch finance minister, making a liar out of the Germans, claiming that the situation was so serious that Cyprus could not be allowed to leave the Eurozone, while the Germans, for their own domestic ocnsumption, were saying it was nothing at all.
If something as small as Cyprus can bring down the Euro, then it truly is only a matter of time before it falls apart.
Here is whose to blame:
Our parents forgot to get married.
Our parents forgot to get wed.
When the wedding bells chimed,
it was always the time,
our parents were somewhere in bed.
So thanks to our kindhearted parents,
we’re kings in the land of the free;
the banker, the broker, the Washington joker,
three prominent ba$tards are we.
When it comes time for a redress grievances, we must redress all these folks.
These asshats on the street are oblivious of the fact that those in debt are slaves to the creditor – in this case the Russian mob and Russki oligarchy whose money their sleazy Euro bankster-connected bank peed away on dubious high risk debt swapping instruments. Circumstance makes no difference to an aggressive creditor – “Oh you have a national crisis? – pay me now”.
These riots are just the thing the Russians need as an excuse to come into Cyprus (invited by an intimidated debtor government) to re-establish law and order – then collect their debt by building Russian sea ports in Cyprus.
Cyprus has a hard choice between the merciless fascist banksters of the EU or the slightly less merciless Russian imperialists.
The moral of the story folks, is your Gandpa was right – never trust a bank.
To those who say this is coming to the USA soon: It’s been here since 2009. When QE1 started, the government had already started taxing your savings. The difference is that with a ‘quantitative easing’ or printing money not only do they tax the money in your bank account, but the tax the money under your pillow too.
CanuckInMi; Exactly!
It has been going on here for decades. Every deficit a government runs devalues the currency. Our Canadian government is running a $26 billion deficit. The real costs of society are not accounted for. We live in a fools paradise.
The lesson from Cyprus is to prepare for what inevitably will come here. Do not expect bank accounts to be safe. Increase your independance and take possession of physical gold. Be carefull when you purchase gold as counterfeit bars are more common than people think.
This is exactly what is happening. Plus, your RRSPs and RIFs are constantly losing value as interest rates are barely at inflation levels and then the proceeds are taxed.
I agree with those who say that the people in the streets are not directly the ones who caused this crisis, but are complicit in that they all consistently voted for whoever would give them more entitlements without accompanying increases in productivity. Similar to what is happening in the US with this president and, to be fair, also under Clinton and GW.
The chickens are coming home to roost and as usual the middle class will be hurt the most.
I see many guys with cameras and not much in the way of actual -rioting-, per se. Seems like the local media is trying to gin up a riot so they’ll have something to show the rubes on TV.
Cops would be smart to arrest all the TV camera wankers and let the rest of the civilians just mill about aimlessly. No fun being in a riot if you don’t get to have your picture on the news, right?
There would be similar rioting here if our government tried to raid our savings accounts. This is money on which taxes have already been paid. It is also money that people have put aside for their own needs, theoretically making them less in need of government services. It is just stupid and counter-productive of government to try to grab this money. Any government that tries this can blame itself for subsequent rioting.
Don’t laugh too loud, chris c. Royal, Montreal, Canadian Imperial and Nova Scotia will all do the same.
Since you ask, I just happen to have a chequing account at TD. Because I have common sense and only trust a banker as far as I can kick him, I don’t let them near any money I can’t afford to lose. Any money I recieve that I don’t immediately need to pay bills gets withdrawn and kept at home in a safe.
In other news, the Germans have rejected Cyprus’ plan to forgo the bank levy by begging, borrowing or stealing money from other sources. Such sources would have included raiding pension funds, sales of gold reserves in the central bank and (interestingly enough) borrowing from the Greek Orthodox Church, who just happen to already be a major shareholder in one of Cyprus’ banks already.
(When I myself tell Europe to go ask for its bailout from the Pope, it’s only a manner of speaking. At this rate I may live to see them really do it!)
Meanwhile, Cyprus is starting to figure out what happens when you stab the Russians in the back. The Cypriot finance minister, come to Moscow to beg for bailout money, was told to send his inquiries to Judas Iscariot. Even offering Cyprus’ untapped oil and gas fields or failed banks on a dish wasn’t interesting to Moscow. I don’t doubt the Russians would like the oil and whatever good assets remain in the bank, but the paratroopers will be a much cheaper and easier way of foreclosing. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re already awaiting orders.

Methinks old lessons learned in the dirty 30’s will come to the fore.
Workfare will replace welfare. Mom will keep the family’s money in a jar or coffee can hidden in the pantry. Work anc commerce will be done under the table. And best of all – if Europe’s children are as good as their great grand parents were – some elite socialist douche bags currently in office will find themselves assuming ambient temperature as their corpses hang by their heels from a lamp post!
While the stinking masses panic and gobble in fright…I am seeing this as good news. There are some very tough lessons here that need to be learned by some very willfully stupid people. The survivors will be much better off without the parasites.
Seems to me the Canadian Bank Act gives the governemnt the authority to seize the bank accounts of citizens in the event of a national currency crisis. It could (will) happen here in time.
If I were living under the madness of the vastly bloated left-wing EU bureaucracy I would want to raise a bit of hell too. However I suspect the lot in this video are kicking up a bit of dust for other reasons.
Aside from the serious nature of the Cypriot situation …. the video of that a “RIOT” is a joke. There’s more blood in the streets of Montreal from grubby little communist parasites complaining about their tuition.
The Cyprus government could have gotten out of the hole by printing money, buy because they are now part if the eurozone borg they cannot do that.
The natural result of allowing coercive government policies.
Merkel is not happy with how things are shaping up.
