Well, I can’t say that I’m surprised, whether it’s just a case of it being too good to be true or just from experience in these kind of things on the conservative side. It may well yet work out okay for them — 100,000 or 125,000 bona fide eligible voters is still quite respectable.
But the impression created (or, rather, re-enforced) is that they’re trying to trick us again: in the same way that they promised to replace the GST, have a made-in-Canada oil price and not implement price and wage controls (which they actually did twice), we were told this time that we would be treated to a meaningful debate about what Liberalism means and how it relates to the future of Canada; instead we’re getting the most vapid, vacuous spectacle of high-school prom-queen style coronation (if you were just going to give it to Justin in a walk anyway, why waste the last seven or eight months and all the candidates’ money?). Now, not only have they gone out and made a bunch of wildly overstated claims about eligible voter numbers (an entirely avoidable and unforced error — how about waiting until the numbers are verified before shooting your mouths off?), the Trudeauites in particular have made themselves look ridiculous by calling for a change in the rules of the game while it’s still in progress. Why would they do that? Are they afraid of something?
Just as the Liberal Party would never enter into a coalition that it didn’t control, the reason for the nationwide collapse of its local riding network is that the culture of entitlement is so strong that nobody will work for them unless they get something out of it (which is kind of hard to deliver on when you’re well out of power). So, in line with the principle that “if you pay peanuts, you get monkies”, why would they expect anybody to believe a huge eligible voter number that carries with it neither the slightest benefit to any member nor the slightest commitment to even filling out a form correctly?
The media coverage of this mess, led as always by the usual downtown Toronto insurgents, reminds my for all the world of that “Flash Vote Mob” baloney from the 2011 election campaign — the media attributed the increased advance poll turn out to this nonsense and completely missed the point that people were flocking to advance polls to vote for Stephen Harper.
There is no seriousness to anything the Liberals are doing.

Based on some of the comments on that WFP article, I suspect that more than a few want Joyce Murray to win with the view of uniting the left into one party. The Liberal Party of Wilfred Laurier has died and been taken over by pseudo Marxists.
I frankly don’t care who the Liberals elect as leader, as long as they implode even more. And most Canadians will not vote for the Quebec centric Marxist Mulcair.
Two thoughts come to mind….
(1)Recently Hydro One extended an offer of a $5 credit for going paperless…..one problem…it did not involve them e-mailing the bill as other utilities. The website was impossible to register on, and after “manually registering by telephone…the website just simple did not work….
Hydro One had commissioned e-post (Canada Post) to run the effort…registering with e-post was a big fail as well…despite lowering firewalls etc.
Several days later, an e-mail from Hydro One announced their new renouvated site…different web addy….no connection with “e-post”…..it is user friendly….
(2)This is hopeful that the US may yet avoid a civil war….we Canadians have succeeded in overthrowing a government and have made the former regime irrelevant.

Sounds like a way to import large numbers of non-Liberals into the voting process, a “stealth” class which could scuttle the ambitions of a wannabe leader or (even more deviously) support a candidate who’d be a disaster as a leader. The supporters of Justin T. should be careful what they wish for. They could end up with the Federal equivalent of Alberta’s “Steady Eddie” Stelmach…
